Superb relaxed site. All the facilities seemed very clean although never saw anyone cleaning. We avoid motorways wherever possible and found this site easy to get to from Burgundy avoiding the traffic of Paris. Programme your satnav to the town centre and then follow the large signs. The street address will take you up an impossible track.
We stayed in J and although far from the toilets etc really appreciated the space. A French youth group arrived during our stay and their excellent behaviour impressed us greatly (we work in a secondary school so made comparisons with English young people!) The pool was excellent when not too busy.
The reviewer who had problems with wasps needs to cut a plastic bottle in half, fill the base with a mixture of coke, orange juice, jams and invert the funnel. The wasps will soon be no problem to them again. The owner was a great help. We visited Paris and Chantilly. Chantilly merits a whole day trip and see the spectacle in the stables if you have time as well as the musee conde.

 Stayed here in August 2009.

Must admit it was a nightmare to find! Postcode we had been given didn't work on the satnav, and had to pop into Chantilly Tourist Information and test out my minimal French.

We visited with another unit (caravan), and upon arrival were asked to find a pitch and then let them know where we had pitched at reception. Very relaxed atmosphere and I honestly don't think the owners would have noticed if we hadn't booked up! Only available electric hook up pitches were right at the back of the campsite, quite a trek from the toilets which are by reception.

This was a very secluded campsite, very basic and rustic. However in the end I think it was very nice, after the shock of it being so different to the sites I'm used to in the UK.

Chantilly is a lovely little town, with some nice resteraunts and shops. Quiet when we visited as it was the holiday season in France.

Downsides:

Only 5 toilets, and 5 showers for each gender, which you had to queue for in the mornings. (There is at least 90-100 pitches).

Only hot water available in toilets - Not nice to brush your teeth with.

No soap in toilets/ Toilet seat (Which I know understand is common in France!)

Toilets are really far from the edges of the campsite.

Good points:

Really relaxed atmosphere.

Very sheltered.

Rustic.

Nice pool area.

Toilets were clean.

Good distance from Paris.

Owner fluent in English. (And very helpful telling us where to park in Paris for free! Bonus)

Baguette delivery every morning.

Only site I've been to that allows campfires.

On the whole a good site if you like it rustic

This was our first time visit to Campix and I can honestly say we'll be going back again when we can. A lovely site set in a former quarry that provides a number of interesting pitches, lovely shower facilities, a superb pool (just what we needed after putting our tent up in the hot sun) and a very welcoming host!

We arrived on site and were welcomed warmly and encouraged to go out into the site and pick what pitch we wanted. We found one that was almost surrounded by trees giving us a real sense of privacy on a site that was clearly very busy but never felt crowded or too noisy.

The showers and toilets were very clean, and the owner was exceptionally helpful in giving us tips on what to do and how to get to places, and gave us maps of the surrounding area. We only got to use the pool the once, due to being very busy, but it was lovely.

The lady who came round in the mornings with bread, croissants etc was very welcomed and sorted out our breakfasts everyday, and we made use of the burger van one night when we couldn't make it to a supermarket. The food was very good.

Only real downsides couldn't really be helped - which were the wasps - perhaps some traps could be put up? - but it was the height of summer.

A really good and unique site, and we'll hopefully be back there soon!

Just returned from our second visit to this site.

Got pitch in A area where we had peace and traquility on this rustic site. Campfires in an evening great. Visited Paris, Pierrefonds, Chantilly and Compiengne. Great for stop over if traveling down further in france. Just a warning though we used Sat Nav from Loire to here and it directs you through Paris. Was an experience but wasn't a problem asd long as you listened and followed directions.

This was a fabulous site and when we went, there was too much pitch space available and it took us an hour to make a choice, almost as much time as booking in, as the manager was so welcoming. We only had two days and one night which was not long enough. One problem though is that the site is so extensive you can find you need a map and compass to find the facilities. Really great site, we will certainly be returning.

This is the second time my friends and I have stayed at this site and we love it. The owner is very relaxed and helpful, encouraging you to go out amongst his site and find just the right spot for you to pitch your tent and as it's in a disused stone quarry, there are lots of little hideaways to find.

He's very relaxed about campfires and allows you to help yourself to fallen wood - you're probably doing him a favour as he seems to be digging out more and more of the quarry for new pitches.

The shower block has been redone which is great, but if you've chosen a pitch away from the families, then you may have a bit of a walk. The upside is that if you are further away from the shower blocks, then you're likely to be nearer the shortcut walk to the train station, which will take you into Paris.

All in all a great campsite. There are lots of lovely pitches for families and older groups and other hidden places for those of us who like to stay up at night talking around the campfire. We all seem to mingle well together without irritating each other! Great place to stay.

I visited this site for two weeks with my 8 year old daughter in our trailer tent. We loved it! I had been stressed about not being allocated a pitch in advance, but despite it being peak season and needing a 'hook up' we still had plenty of choice. The pitch we chose was very private and nicely shaded, close to electricity and water. There were ants though! We bought ant trap things from the supermarket in the village, they completely solved the problem in hours. I have to correct an earlier review, there IS a proper chemical toilet disposal point, but it is right at one end of the site(meaning a LONG trek for some) and not the most pleasant of its type I have used! I was very glad to have my own loo though as the toilet block was a bit of a walk and the doors from the toilet area out onto the corridor were always open - not very private! Toilets were always clean and I tend to choose off peak times to shower, so I never had to queue! I can't comment on the washing up facilities as I use my own. The visiting van selling kebabs etc was outrageously expensive in my opinion. It looked like refurbishments to the café area will be finished in 2009 though. I hope the prices are better!

My daughter loved getting breakfast from the boulanger's van every morning, the pool, the play area and the overall sense of adventure created by the multiple levels and pathways of the site. I loved the peace (there were a few noisy campers, but most of the time the place feels like a haven) the very natural un-manicured environment, the smell of campfires and the fact that the owner talked to me in French as soon as he realised I was fluent!

We went to Paris a few times - let the owner explain how to get to the RER station at Survilliers-Fosses where there is free parking. We found lots of lovely places just to potter about. L'ile St Adam is beautiful - but the riverside bathing area is ridiculously expensive! Don't neglect to visit the 'parc de loisirs' in St Leu itself - it's inexpensive to get in, toilet facilities good, picnic tables, games areas and huge communal BBQs with a great atmosphere.

I would definitely go back to this site, the inconvenience of there only being one central toilet block is more than made up for by the 'at one with nature' feel created by there not being a toilet block every 50 yards.

I hope this is helpful.

This was the very first time we had camped in France and a Camping & caravan club site it isn't! Fiddly to find, pretty but VERY basic (eg NO proper toilet emptying facilities, other than in the single main block. . The wash & showers are separate but you wouldn't brush you're teeth in the semi-warm water of the single-tap wash sinks. No toilet seats - more like being in Asia than Europe.

On the other hand, it all goes with a relaxed (real campfires allowed!) but orderly (pool opening & closing time) and helpful (real help on getting Paris train tickets) regime. Great pool area and useful location to reach central Paris or the very local 'Parc Asterix'. Others on the site had used it as a base to get to Euro-disney. But that's 70km away. We used it mainly to get to Paris, but Chantilly is nearby and very pretty. I'm not sure if we would stay here again because I think there are better equipped sites nearby - but if you want relaxed and laid-back, this is it.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this campsite and it was just as previous reviews had said, rustic but great. We had a great time, the weather wasn't in our favour, but the trees kept us dry!

We welcomed the map given to us by the camp site manager and drove, 20 minutes to Fosse to take the metro into Paris and had a great day sight seeing. We also felt brave enough to drive around the region to see all the local attractions, including Chantilly, which was interesting and Piernfolds, which we thought was better to view from the outside, than paying to go inside. This campsite gave us the perfect location, as first time visitors to France to see visit some tourist attractions.

The facilities on the site were minimal but sufficient for us, we chose a pitch, that had electric, the shower/toilet facilities were always clean and hot water was plenitful.

In the small village nearby there were basic facilities, and about a 10 minute drive away is a great supermarket that has everything you could possibly need!

I would definitely recommend this site for a short term stay or longer if wanting to explore the region.

We chose this site as it looked unusual and it was only just over two hours drive from Boulogne. It takes some digging about on tripadvisor, the reviews on this forum (very useful) and the links on the campsite's website (which don't do it full justice) to get a good overview of the area. We travelled as two families, ours with ten and eight year olds, and the other family with toddlers. Staying for ten days.

First the campsite: The owner is friendly, always avaiable and speaks excellent English. The showers and toilets are very clean, and the campsite well maintained. There is a pleasant play area, and a fantastic swimming pool in a lovely setting (which is not heated so it needs a warmer day to enjoy it for long). There is no shop but a boulanger that visits very promptly each morning.

Then there is the setting of the campsite. Fantastic. In a quarry, it is very informally laid out with large plots, (not particularly delineated) each surrounded buy oak and siver birch woodland, but with plenty of space to allow the sun to come through. As it is in a quarry there are loads of great spaces to explore on loads of levels, and old quarry caves just off site. It really is a superb setting, and our kids got themsleves lost making camps for hours with other kids from the site. There is also the rule of being allowed to have your own campfires. What a nice experience walking down on a weekend to the shower block passing ten or so little fires outside tents, and the smell of burning logs faintly across the campsite. We thought all in all this was a rare find. And it wasn't busy even in the middle of August (probably two thirds full at most on a weekend, dropping off slightly in the week as it is clearly used as a stop over from the south, as it is near to several main routes to calais / boulogne, or Lille / Belgium).

Lastly, the area: the village is an easy ten minutes walk out the campsite, and is pleasant with a lovely abbey, a small old centre with a more modern square with the necessary grocer. In the immediate few miles around it is largely uninterseting / industrial, but within a few miles you can get to Senlis (beautiful), the very grand Chantilly Chateau (very reasonable place to visit with a family as children under 18 are free), Parc Astrix (superb place for 5's and over, our kids raved about it), and going north into the countryside you can quickly find what we always sought, the quintessential french villages and towns with nothing much going on but simply beautiful in their run-down but adorable old streets and churches in a square with a peaceful atmosphere.

So, not a lot of bad things to say here, we'll definitely consider going back. I would say this is the ideal site for families with children that you can afford to lose safely (and it was even easy with the toddlers we took, you just had to keep an eye on them) and older couples alike, who want a pleasant friendly fairly quiet site.
