We go to this site many weekends during the year.
This site is of the usual Caravan Club high standards in every way. Very well laid out with hedges, tree's and forestry along with great walks.
There is a large play area for kids and dedicated over-night ferry pitches. The wardens are very friendly.
The site is close to the small but lovely village of Wickham & major towns of Portsmouth & Southampton.
The usual Friday night Fish & Chip van meals were horrible, grey fish, concrete batter & tasteless chips plus expensive to buy.
Its well worth popping by car to Bishops Waltham and have a walk around the high street. We found a gen of a butchers and omg what lovely meat for the BBQ.

Just had our third stay at this lovely site - this time prior to setting off on our main European tour. It's an oasis of calm and tranquillity after a journey on the frantic motorway network. A popular site - mid-week there were only 4-5 vacant hard standings (several on grass were available) the pitch we chose was spot-on being within sight of the loo block and lots of wide open spaces front and back. The grounds and amenities are maintained to the usual 5* standard that we have come to expect from the Caravan Club.
Not only is this an ideal site for those using ferries to/from Portsmouth, for us it is near the home of our daughter and husband who like to visit for meals at the caravan. This has never been a problem in terms of site rules. We just advise the warden that we are expecting visitors who know to use the designated parking area.
The quaint village of Wickham is a 5/10 minute drive away with several shops around the wide square. We have used the independent butcher, hairdresser (Wispers), the Kings Arms pub and Co-op on a number of occasions.
Only negative point would be the wifi which was erratic to connect at times.

We used this site as a quick one night stop over on the ferry pitch. The location is excellent - only a 20 minute drive from the port of Portsmouth. After a long and exhausting drive in France followed by a long ferry trip, we needed a simple, no-nonsense stop. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
We arrived at about 10. 45pm, and the signage to get onto the ferry pitch area was excellent. Really clear, and easy to get into and set up. A warden came out to help us to park. It was pitch black and raining hard.
That's when the problems started though. He explained that the water point was through the gate on the other side of the ferry pitch, and that the shower block was in that direction as well. After a quick set up, all we wanted was to fill a water bottle and have hot showers.
* the camp site was so dark and poorly lit that it took a lot of effort by torchlight to locate the water point.
* the shower block was quite far away from the ferry area, and again difficult to access in the dark. When we did find it, though, there was no hot water. Freezing cold showers.
* we had to then unload all the stuff we travel with in our caravan shower in order to use that. Very inconvenient.
* worst was in the morning, though, when we reported the problems to reception and they said that we should have reported it to the night warden. There's no way we had the energy to do that at midnight!
* we were also told that we could have used the other shower block at the other end of the park. We weren't informed that there was another one when we arrived and we weren't given a map of the park. We wouldn't have been able to find it anyway because of the really poor lighting around the site.
* for close to £30 for an overnight stop, we weren't provided with the basics required on a ferry pitch. Other sites have showers, toilets and water facilities within the ferry area itself, making for a stress-free visit. This was far from that, I'm afraid.
I'm sure this is a lovely caravan site to stay on for a longer visit, but a lot of work needs to be done to bring the ferry pitch service up to standard.

This is a lovely Caravan Club site with the usual mixture of hardstanding and grass pitches. This was our second visit and both times we have stayed on one of the grass pitches which are spacious and well maintained. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. There are two facility blocks with showers, washrooms and washing up areas which are very clean and warm in the mornings. There are quite a few good pubs nearby, one of which you can walk to from the site and a map is available from the site office. There are also a few other walks from the site one of which leads to the nearby Forest of Bere which has a great play area for children, there is also a play area on site which our children really enjoyed. We will definitely be visiting this site again and would highly recommend it.

This site is of the usual Caravan Club high standard. Well laid out with lots of hedges, trees & surrounded by forestry with beautiful walks. Large play area for kids. Friendly wardens. Close to the delightful village of Wickham & major towns of Portsmouth & Southampton. We had a great week at Rookesbury. Speaking for non dog owners, the only downside was the exceptionally high number of dogs & consequently the nuisance of very frequent barking throughout the day. You can't get away from them! There are some very selfish dog owners who seem to think we should all share their irritating animals. The Fish & Chip van meals were awful, grey fish, concrete batter & tasteless chips plus expensive to buy.

We decided on a weekend break here, mainly to get away from the Goodwood Revival weekend, as its only about 25 miles away from us. Whilst I have never had to complain about Caravan Club facilities, I think those at Rookesbury are exceptional and considering the number of units using the site the weekend we were there the Wardens have to be commended for their hard work and attention to detail.
The site is quiet and peaceful and borders the Forest of Bere so there are plenty walks nearby and a really excellent large field for dogs.
We managed to pack in quite a bit over 2 days and particularly enjoyed a trip to Alresford to see the Watercress line. We can also recommend the Panda chinese takeaway in Wickham.

There is so much dense woodland in and around this site that it feels like it's really out in the wilds. However it's 5 minutes' drive from the quaint village of Wickham and 10 minutes from Fareham which is a surprisingly (to us, anyway) large town with very good shopping. Portsmouth, Winchester and Southampton are all within easy reach as are other attractions like the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and the Watercress Line heritage steam railway. It's a large site with a good mixture of hardstanding and grass pitches, 2 very modern and immaculately clean washblocks and a fabulous dog exercise area - if you have an energetic dog that likes to run around you won't need to go anywhere else, it's an absolutely huge and fully enclosed field with rabbits popping up everywhere - it's OK, the dogs can't get at the rabbits.
Don't bother with the fish and chip van that visits twice a week, it's expensive and it's all the Youngs/McCain's Iceland-type frozen offerings, not the genuine article at all.
If you like a quiet site that's surrounded by nature yet has all mod cons, this will not disappoint.

What a great site. Good sized pitches. Very open. Extremely helpful, friendly staff. Lovely warm shower/toilet block, beautifully clean. Washing up area was okay too. This is a well used site so it pays to book early as we did. Friday is fish and chip night by way of mobile chip van visiting the site. The walks of which there are many are great, our dog was in heaven in the woodland. Can't fault the site.

A spacious site with excellent facilities and a large dog exercise area. My only negative comment is that for people like me, who are not disabled but no longer very agile, a shortcut to the toilet block would be appreciated.
The site is surrounded by woodlands with pleasant walks, although transport is needed for shopping.
In the centre of Wickham is ample parking which is free after 6pm and the coop store is open until 11pm except Sunday, when it closes at 5pm. The site is in easy access of the coast and the New Forest area.
We decided against a day trip to the Isle of Wight because of the cost of the ferry, and decided that would have to be a future trip to stay on the island. We would stay here again.

For our first visit to a Caravan Club site we chose Rookesbury as it's close to home and we wanted to make the most of our weekend away and enjoy the sunshine after all the rain.
We received a warm welcome and were told to drive through the site until we met the wardens where they wanted us to pitch - its a one way system.
For some reason they decided to manhandle our caravan onto the pitch (we didn't know if this was the norm so just went along with it) and with the help of a fellow caravanner they set about moving it. Although not a heavy caravan they appeared to struggle and it ended nose up with the jockey wheel swinging over a foot off the ground!
Eventually it was sited and we set about relaxing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings, although the busy hum of the wardens cleaning and cutting grass was slightly annoying - but I guess its necessary to maintain the standards expected.
We had nobody behind us so we could look at the variety of trees and watch rabbits etc.
The dog field is fantastic and the children have a very large field to play in with some good equipment. The toilet and shower block was very clean and smelt pleasant.
There were plenty of water taps, grey waste drains and bins around so nobody needed to walk far.
The whole site is surrounded by forestry and inside the site there are plenty of hedgerows and small trees so you feel a world away from the hustle & bustle.
Reception sells few supplies so Wickham is better for any essentials, with a sweet shop well worth visiting!
