Four nights away in Rookesbury Park mid-week in September was such joy. A very warm and friendly welcome by the wardens, who were very helpful and chatty.
The forest surrounding the site makes for an enchanting walk, either with the family or to take your four legged friend. Portsmouth around 10 minutes in the car, has a wonderful shopping centre and Southampton twenty minutes away for the towsure camping and caravan store.
The site is well maintained, and the high standard we all expect of the facilities don't let us down.
Wednesday and Friday nights have a fish and chip van, with Friday nights having a more varied menu. The reception offers the basics, bread, milk, bacon, cake etc and you can order your daily newspaper for a small charge.
Wickham village a few minutes away by car, has a few places to eat, a selection of shops and a Co Op to pick up those little extras.
All in all, a very pretty site, although my only observation on the downside being, a few grass pitches seem to have a very pinched plot and seemed a little close to their neighbours.

This is a beautiful site, nicely laid out, with friendly wardens, clean facilities and the best children's play area I have seen on a caravan club site. It is a long meandering drive down into the site, and you leave the hustle and bustle behind you with every yard covered.
It is so peaceful here, with an entire field for dogs to be exercised in, and with walks in the Forest of Bere accessible from the site.
If you are looking for a get away from it all site, with sufficient entertainment for both kids and dogs, go, you won't regret it.

This was the second visit to this site for my wife and I and we are booked to go again in June 2012. Why? because we just love the whole thing. The approach to the site unfolds into a view that seems to invite you in, the layout is lovely as are the facilities, most of the pitches are a very generous size and the location gives you loads of options from walks in the Bere Forest to the bustling activities of Portsmouth and of course you are in easy reach of many other coastal towns from here. And it is easy to get to with no narrow twisty roads to negotiate.
Well done CC.

Had a great time at this site, was sad to leave after a 2 week stay, facilities were kept clean and tidy at all times as was the site itself.
Fareham is close by and the site is well located for Portsmouth etc and day trips to Isle of Wight, although I will say the Isle of Wight let me down a bit, not what I expected, my mum had been there on holiday and raved about the place, obviously one afternoon wasn't long enough to see the true beauty of the place. Will go for longer maybe next time.
Plenty to see in the area including Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, we had a great day there, seeing the old ships and the history brings a lump to the throat. We went shopping in the Gunwharf Quays centre, every shoppers dream come true. Ours purses were certainly lighter when we finished. And I conquered my fear of heights by going up the Spinnaker Tower, took me half hour to let go of the lift wall but I did in the end and I even walked over the glass floor, it was fantastic.
Shopping facilities are a few miles away in Wickham which has a good selection of shops for a village, we parked the car one afternoon and was shocked how long we spent going in and out of shops. Also has a choice of pubs, Chinese and Indian.
Will be visiting again in the future.

We were very impressed by this site. We were greeted warmly and allowed to choose our pitch. There are a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches, well spaced out. The site is very attractive and quiet, and in a great location next to a forest park with cycle tracks and children's play areas. The site also has its own play ground which got the thumbs up from our children.
The area itself I would say is more suited to adults with very pretty villages, the Southwick brewery and Wickham vineyard close by. But our kids were happy to run round the campsite making their own fun and we live close by so weren't really here to sightsee.
The showers and toilets were spotless and of the usual high standard found in Caravan Club sites. There was a takeaway van on site on Friday evening although we chose to pop into Wickham for a fantastic takeaway curry.
The little shop on site stocked essentials like chocolate (!) but did close quite early (around 5pm). There is a supermarket within 10 minutes drive. Overall we had a lovely weekend here and hope to return again soon.

This is my favourite ever site - it's beautiful, clean, peaceful, lovely walks, dog exercise area, safe and the loos/showers/laundry room all spotless.
I stay here very regularly because it's a short drive from home when you've been working all week and don't feel like making it a mission to get away for the weekend.
Worth every penny. I choose a pitch that is well away from other pitches and that's my only criticism, lots of the pitches are just too close together, a common fault in this country considering the nature of camping - ie To get away from it all without the need for net curains! However, Still a beautiful site.

Great site. Great location. Immaculate throughout
Just had a fantastic week in the unusually warm April of 2011. This might have helped the experience however I don't think I would have found fault at any other time either.
My eldest boy (4) had a whale of a time. Lots of space to run around. Good kids park with football pitch and climbing equipment for (officially) 5 to 10 yr olds
The site was busy but the two toilet blocks were never crowded. Site reception was of the CC standard I have come to expect. They sell burgers & sausages from the butchers in Wickham for the barbecue. Do try to visit the butchers shop as it has to be one of the best
If you like real ale then a trip to the brewhouse in Southwick is worth a visit. They sell a vast array of ales from brewers near & far. It also has a bit of British history related to World War II.
The drive to Southwick from the site is also the best route into Portsmouth. There are a couple of great viewing points near the roundabout at the top of Portsdown Hill by the radar station
A trip to Southsea and Gunwharf Quay are good for old fashioned beachfront & shopping/ eating and don't forget a zoom up to the top of Spinnaker Tower. A bit expensive but something you have to do as long as the weather and coast is clear.
I'm definitely keeping it on my favourites list

We stayed here during the last week of the season last year. The campsite was very peaceful and well kept. The shower blocks and toilets were spotless and cleaned regularly. Wardens were helpful. We were given a map made by the site to go to nearby Wickham but unfortunately got very lost, our fault as we should have taken an ordinance survey map to help us too. Wardens gave us very helpful information for catching a ferry to the Isle of Wight. There was an information room with lots of information about the area which was very useful.
The site has a barrier entrance for security so feels very safe. There is a playground for children to play in within the site.
All in all a very pleasant stay in a beautifully kept site.

We have used this site twice for the ferry, stopping in the late night arrivals area, has 12 pitches for the ferry, it is opposite the office. On arrival to the barrier, someone must get out and press the button.
Either we were tired but we never heard anyone in the morning leaving for the ferry, they were very quiet.
Its about 20 - 30 minutes to the port depending on the traffic.
It is a lovely site and well maintained. Had a quick look at the shower and toilet block which were spotless.
There is a security barrier to the main part of the site.
Wish we had more time on this site than one night.

This campsite is about 20 minutes from the ferry port and is outside the hustle and bustle of Portsmouth. Fantastic campsite in a beautiful setting at the end of a long drive.
The campsite is situated in a valley and is surrounded by trees, it is very quiet and peaceful. We stayed in the ferry field as we were catching a ferry to France early the next day. A perfect spot to start or end an holiday, especially as you do not disturb the holidaymakers who are there for an holiday.
There are two toilet blocks which are immaculate with plenty of showers and hot water. The wardens were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back when we use Portsmouth ferry port and also for a weekend as it is very convenient to where we live.
