Selected because it was open until mid-October and close to our route home, we only stayed the one night.
Finding the site was relatively easy and check-in was quick and easy with very helpful and friendly, English speaking, staff. We were given a map and told to select our own pitch.
Slightly expensive at 27 Euros for a tent and 3 adults without EHU.
Loos/showers were clean though having a slightly 'end-of season' look. Bar and restaurant were open and we availed ourselves of a takeaway to save cooking, not brilliant but sustaining. We chose a pitch on the highest terrace which was slightly sloping but well grassed and with well tended bordering hedges. Water/EHU was available on each pitch.
Didn't have time to check out the locality but the lake looked good for swimming and boating. The city of Langres looks intriguing with its hefty walls and we may have to stay here longer to have chance to look around.
As an overnight or short stay definitely recommended.

We stayed at Camping du Lac de Liez near Langres for 3 nights at the end of July. It was our second halt on our way south to the French Alps. We phoned ahead to reserve a pitch on the day that we arrived, as is our custom. This site is popular as a stopover site as it is c 200 miles from Calais and near to the A24 and A6 autoroutes. We had made a conscious decision save money by avoiding the toll roads so arrived via the N19.
The route to the site was clearly signed from Langres and the site was set in a rural situation overlooking a large lake, actually a reservoir for the Canal du Midi. The very wide entrance drive to the site was ideal and gave plenty of space for parking several outfits on each side whilst booking in. The reception staff spoke excellent English and were helpful and welcoming. Cary asked for and was given a pitch with a view of the lake – although this was not actually so – see below. The site entrance/exit is secured by a code-operated barrier.
The site is laid out in terraces on the hillside overlooking the lake. The site has a number of mobile homes and chalets both in specific areas and scattered amongst the touring pitches for tents and caravans. It has a lovely modern amenities area near the entrance. These buildings included reception with tourist info, a small, well-stocked, shop, including bread, a bar, a children’s games room, a restaurant and a huge decking restaurant terrace overlooking the lake and site’s outdoor swimming pool.
The swimming pool, which I understand is relatively recent, was a reasonable temperature and stayed open quite late into the evening. This was a bonus as we could swim after a day out. There is, also, a small indoor pool with a spa and sauna but we did not use these. There is wi-fi and an internet computer access in the bar and terrace area at 5€ and 8€ per hour respectively. Wi-fi range was limited to this area – I tried it unsuccessfully further away.
Our actual pitch was a little disappointing as it looked as though it had previously had a mobile home on it and was mainly hardstanding and mud. The promised view of the lake wasn't because the hedge was badly in need of cutting and obstructed the view. Most of the other pitches were much more grassy – we were just unfortunate in the one that we were allocated. There are 2 modern toilet blocks serving different parts of the site but we used our own facilities
Although we did not visit the lake it is very scenic. It is used as a centre for water sports and pediloes and boats can be hired. The lake and its sandy beach can be reached by steps from the campsite. There are, also, several public car parks near the lake as it a popular spot. I understand that there are, also, cycle tracks and footpaths around the wooded shores of the lake.
The lovely, hilltop, walled town of Langres is about 2 miles from the site is and well worth a visit as it is classified as one of the 50 most beautiful towns in France. Its ancient walls and towers are preserved almost intact and it is possible to walk the perimeter of the town on top of the walls. As it was VERY hot we took the tourist train tour of this small city starting from the Tourist Information office. This tour included an English commentary on a handset. “Train” tickets are booked from the Tourist Information and we got a discounted price by using a voucher from a “passport” book given to us by the campsite. The town walls are so wide that the “train” actually drives along the tops of the wall for part of its route. It was very interesting tour although the fact that the carriages were completely enclosed in Perspex made it a very warm ride on a sunny afternoon. The town, which is obviously very strictly controlled in terms of permitted building, has a wealth of interesting buildings.
We took the opportunity to have a look around the Camping Navarre municipal site which is actually situated inside, and in fact next to the city walls. That site has a new toilet block and is very handy for the shops and other town amenities. There is an Aldi supermarket, where we stocked up on essentials, just around the corner from Camping Navarre. The French Aldis accepted our credit cards, unlike the UK ones. We had thought of staying at this site on the way home but ended up using a different route. If towing to Camping Navarre it is important to approach it from the main road and follow the signs to the nearby Tourist Information Office thus avoiding the narrow streets of the town.
I am happy to recommend Camping du Lac de la Liez both as a night halt or for longer stays. I did, however, feel that at 31.90€ per night (2 adults, ‘van, car and EHU) it was rather pricey for what it offered, although it did include a full service pitch – so no aquaroll filling/wastemaster emptying.
Again I think its position as an ideal night-halt gave it a strong position with regard to charges.

Very good site (caravan and camping club) - visited at the beginning of August 2009 and was very quiet compared to the other times we have visited - not sure why.
Large pitches are available on request for larger caravans. We managed to get one of these for our 2 night stop even without booking in advance.
Does everything is says on the website. Will no doubt visit again as good stop over for travelling down south.
Langres nice town (has a nice little tourist train to go round on), but not much to do for more than a couple of days personally.

We stayed here for 1 night on the way to the South of France. It's actually a few miles from the Autoroute which is good and bad.
Reception staff were very pleasant and it was no problem to move me to another pitch which was longer and allowed me to leave the van hitched to the car for a quick getaway in the morning.
Site has key code barriers which don't open until 7am so a very early dart is not possible.
There was an outdoor pool which was a decent size and had great views over the countryside. As it was cold (and wet) we used the indoor pool which, whilst small and an unusual shape, was good - so was the sauna.
I agree with the previous review - if you want to connect the water directly into your van take lots of hose. Also, take several tap adapters as they do vary site to site.
Would recommend for 1 night or longer.
Was a bit pricey.

This is a very attractive peaceful site overlooking Lac De La Liez in the southern part of the Champagne region, close to the border with Burgundy.
There are good facilities on site - a well stocked shop, good restaurant, children's play areas, and an indoor & outdoor swimming pool. It's a short 5 minute walk from the site down to a nice beach on the lake, which is great for swimming, and where you can also hire pedalos etc.
It is a very short drive to the walled cathedral town of Langres, which is well worth exploring.
The site is just over 300 miles from Calais, and not far from the A31 & A5 autoroutes (the route most people would take if travelling to the south). We were on this site for three nights on our return from the south, and got he impression that like us, many people stay on this site for only one or two nights to break the journey when travelling to or from the south.
Overall this was an excellent site, which we would consider using again.

A beautiful site with splendid views of the lake. Our only criticism was that the boundary of our pitch was not that well defined although many pitches seemed clearly separated by hedges. Had we stayed longer we'd have tried the restaurant as it had some local fare. The entertainment on the terrace was varied and we particularly enjoyed the jazz band. My husband enjoyed swimming in the lake where the beach was very well tended. A little disappointed that the outside pool wasn't warmer but the inside pool, although small, was warmer. There were a variety of places to eat along the lakeside within easy walking distance. Langres and other lakes in the area were worth a visit.

Excellent site for overnight stop. Beautiful views of lake. Whilst I agree with the comments about the shower and toilet block the shower was the hottest around and powerful! Although rain / mud maybe a problem here. Even in October takeaway / restaurant etc was open. Terraced pitches. Water and electric on each but make sure that you have plenty of hose pipe as the taps are very strange and we experience difficulty filling our water! I would love to visit again in better weather! Friendly, helpful staff. Reasonable food from take away as well as a bar

I concur with everything everyone has said. We went to France for our first Abroad camp. We headed direct for this site because of the reviews and weren't disappointed. Great facilities, helpful staff great restaurant, food superb, pool great. The staff at the lake were equally friendly and the food in the lakeside restaurant also very good. We spent a week there and enjoyed every minute.
About 1 1/2 hours away gets you through some beautiful countryside to a new themepark - Nigloland. Some great rides there for all the family - our children are 11 and 9. About £50 for a family of 4 - great day out.
Langres is worth a visit - take the train tour around the town - great history and architecture. This town sits high above the campsite about 2 miles away. Great shops and ALDI our favourite for wine!
Take a satnav if you can - made our journey a million % easier.

We stayed here for nine nights and it was our first experience of a french campsite. We were really impressed. We had a lovely pitch overlooking the lake with some nice shade to keep the kids out of the midday sun.
The pools were great, mainly used the indoor one as the outdoor a bit too cold for me! The play areas lovely too. Everywhere was kept very clean, especially the toilet/shower block.
The lake is easily accessed and has a small beach and swimming area as well as a large grassy area for picnics and sunbathing. Five minutes walk from site.
I did find the site a bit noisy at night, even had a choir giving us an impromptu concert at 11.30pm. There was a curfew but no sign of anyone enforcing it.
We had a defined pitch but there was a nice field towards the back of the site for those not needing EHU which offered more informal camping.
Would highly recommend.

We visited this site for 1 night on our way down to the Ardeche, and then again for 1 night on the way back, using camping cheques. Easy access from the Motorway, and easy to find as it was well sign posted.
Set on the side of a hill overlooking Lake Liez, it was certainly a picturesque site, with reasonable sized pitches set out in terraces, but I would be careful as some of the pitches are quite tight to reverse on to. Unfortunately the days preceding both our visits, the area had very heavy rain. Only the area nearest the open ablutions were available for pitching on, which wasn't a problem. The pitches were supposedly all weather but because of the heavy rain, and the type of stones used, it was still a little muddy which was a bit of a pain. Looking at some of the other reviews, we are not the only ones to notice this. We had both electric hook-up and water on our pitch.
Very helpful reception staff, who spoke good English. We never sampled the restaurant but the bar and takeaway were excellent, but be careful of the portions - they are huge! The pool was not open this time of year, but a good children's play area kept the kids amused.
I would certainly use this site again, but I don't think I would like to spend my whole holiday here, but we only experinced it in wet April, so maybe in summer it would be much better (and drier!)
