What a hidden gem. The welcome from Mike and Cath is top class. A cold beer was in hand within minutes of arriving. Choice of spots, very very clean and welcoming site. Great location for cycling in the local area. I just hope they get permission soon for the shower block and this will be one of the best sites in France. Local pub is a must visit.

What can I say except wonderful, if you like peace and quiet this the place for you, Mike and Cath are two of the nicest people we have ever met, and not forgetting Mikes lovely mother, Bessie.
It would be impossible for any camp site owner to be more helpful, they work from early morning to dusk, cleaning and improving the site.
I would add that the site is also Mike and Cath, s home so they do expect people to respect the peace and quiet, and in my opinion they are very successful at maintaining the lovely peaceful surroundings that I know most people enjoy.
This was our second visit and this coming September may be our third.

We had a lovely warm welcome, and were shown around the site before pitching. We had a fabulous pitch. Really big with shade and sun in different parts all day long, so the best of both worlds. The weather during our stay was quite changeable, and after a terrific storm Mike came around the site to check everyone was ok, (and to see if any damage had been done to the pitches so that he could put right). Nothing is too much trouble for mike and cath, and they were great hosts. They had had some trouble getting planning permission for their proposed shower and toilet facilities so units had been hired in. Not the greatest units, but clean and perfectly useable. Although now the planning permission is through for the new facilities I am more than confident that these will be as well planned and thought out as the rest of the site. And kept neat and tidy too. The above deck splash pool is great, wifi which is available from most pitches. There is also a pond with ducks etc. And the use of things like dartboard and TV inside a barn building. The surrounding area is lovely to explore. We had a great time, and definitely hope to visit again soon. Nearby there is a lovely restaurant where lunch is under 14 euro, and they also have a takeaway pizza service on Friday and Saturday nights. Mike and Cath are very knowledgable about the area so you can find out anything you need to know from them.

My wife selected this campsite (she does all the research!) and as usual she was spot on! Of course it depends on what you are looking for in a site but if tranquillity and beauty are on your list then this spot has it in spades!
The site was easy to find though I would warn caravanners and owners of large motor homes to ignore the first turn off to Obterre in St Flovier and go a little further to the heavy lorry route turning. (About 200m after the first turn). If you are coming from Azay Ferron there are no problems at all but the turning on the edge of Obterre for those coming from Charnizay would not be fun with a caravan.
Anyway - to the site. There are a small number of excellent flat pitches with power hook ups and some but not all have good shade for part or all the day. In summer you would probably prefer those pitches if they are free. Power has French type sockets but they are NOT reversed polarity so one less complication to worry about. Mike, the site owner reckons their EDF electricity supply can be unreliable but we had no problems in the three weeks we stayed there.
Showers - at the moment Mike is engaged in a long running struggle with the French Bureaucracy to try and get a shower block built. I believe permission has finally been granted so hopefully these will soon be in place. For the present however, fret not, as there are a number of apartments and a gite on the site and Mike and Kath open the unoccupied ones up to campers and they are kept spotlessly clean. There is also a washing up room and access to washing machines and tumble driers via Kath. They also sell the local wine which I believe is excellent and they will add the cost to your bill!
Whilst we were there Mike was in the process of erecting a new splash pool. This was a source of entertainment to many though not Mike as he is a perfectionist and the thing was not cooperating though by now I imagine it is in place and operating.
The site is perfect for bird watching or as a base for lazy country walks or for setting out to explore the lovely local towns and villages. The camp site was entirely occupied by Brits while we were there but beyond that we hardly saw anything other than the local French folk who are very friendly (obviously not been Dordogned by foreigenrs). The whole place exerts a kind of magic on you, my wife felt it was a medieval landscape and completely unspoilt by the 21st century.
Possible drawbacks?
No clubhouse or children's play area (plus for me personally)
Very noisy cuckoos and hoopoes (Brilliant!)
Off the main tourist routes. (another plus so far as I am concerned)
Finally - Mike and Kath the site owners and Mike's mum Bessie make everyone feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. We are going again, sooner rather than later!

Often when you read these reviews you think they may have been written by friends and family of the owners in an attempt to improve rankings, I promise you we are neither. Nor do we often bother to write reviews because everything is personal, what I might like you may not! But, if you don't enjoy coming here then you need to take a serious look at yourselves rather than at the site. Before we had even unhitched we had a glass of wine in our hands, Cath let us have a bottle of milk because we were running low, they gave us all the info we needed but were not at all overbearing. The pitch was huge, the site well serviced the location amazing. They let us use their field to walk the dogs in, there were also local walks that were easy to access. Fresh bread delivered daily, WiFi superspeed, site-wide and free, we felt like we had come to caravan heaven!

What a great welcome we received when we arrived unannounced at Camping Le Cromier from both Mike and Cath despite them both being engaged on site maintenance at the time. Mike took time to show me around the site to ensure all my needs were met in terms on choosing a pitch whilst the other half was engaged in conversation with Cath and her Mother explaining the site facilities and discussing other local amenities (amongst many other subjects!). The site is set in a flat rural area (a former farm) and all pitches were level, grassed and served with electric (reverse polarity). Grey water disposal was through portable pipes and the black water point was easily available. Other facilities available included washer/dryer, fridge, swimming/paddling pool, a barn with table tennis and darts, and a local information point. The local bread (and other grocery items) van calls to the site regularly and (although not whilst we were there) a meat van too. The village of Obterre is just down the road and wildlife at The Brenne is easily accessible. Mike and Cath are engaged in continual upgrading of their site with plans for a new shower/toilet block. In summary, a well maintained site with pitches well marked and segregated set in a country environment and one we will certainly put on our agenda should we return to this area. Their website is well worth a visit.

What can we say that hasn't been said before? The owners are the perfect campsite owners and cannot do enough to help make your stay with them just perfect. I had broken a bone in my foot just a couple of days before arriving at their site and as soon as I got out of the car on my crutches they had got me a wheelchair which I was able to use for the duration of our stay with them. They work like Trojans from morning to night to maintain their exceedingly high standard and are the most welcoming and obliging owners we have ever met. A haven in the Vienne. Will return as soon as we can.

Just returned back to the UK, having visited Normandy and the Loire. Le Cormier is run by a couple Mike and Cath who should be employed as customer relations consultants by every other campsite we've ever stayed at.
The hospitality at this site is second to none and makes a stay in this beautiful area even more special.
We will certainly be visiting again and only wish we had more time to enjoy the area particularly to the south.

We have been to many campsites in France over the last couple of years. Camping Le Cormier was one of our favorites due to it been a lovely immaculate site and lovely location. We took our dogs and there were plenty of walks to do in the lake and woodland surrounding areas. The owners Mike and Cath were the friendliest and most welcoming host we have ever come across. They were so helpful and full of local knowledge. The facilities on the site were everything you needed for a relaxing time. We would definitely recommend Camping Le Cormier if you want to experience a bit of rural life in the loire valley.

This site is very pretty and picturesque, just what you would expect a French campsite to look like. The owners do come across as friendly on first impression. However as our stay continued, we began to feel more and more uncomfortable there as every time my children made even the slightest noise (they're only 4 and 8!) they were telling them off and asking me to keep a closer eye on them, even though they were always within my sight and earshot! They are children having fun on holiday, but by the end of our stay they were afraid to move, play, laugh. ! When checking out, the owners then started up a conversation with me complaining about previous guests who had used the campers fridge, charged phones in the recreation area, borrowed badminton racquets etc etc but these are all things which they say initially feel free to help yourselves! I would not recommend this site
