Mike and Cath literally went the extra mile (and more) to help us out when we needed assistance with car breakdown. This is the sort of 'added value' you can't anticipate or put a price on.

It would be hard indeed to find more accommodating and flexible hosts at a campsite. From the welcome pack, with plenty of useful information, to constant awareness of caravanners and campers needs, all aspects are covered.

The site itself is delightful - spacious and tranquil with nice touches such as picnic tables and rotary driers available to use. Close to the Brenne National Park, with its abundance of lakes and wildlife (a treasure for bird-watchers) and relatively near to the southern side of the Loire Valley, it's a great base for touring and exploring. When all else fails, you can always sit back and enjoy the peace! Thoroughly recommended.

As already posted this site is heaven, clean well looked after, massive pitches level and grass, some hard standings, wifi, chemical disposal,

We arrived on our way home with snow falling in most places, but the warm welcome made up for the cold weather,

This is a great area for castles and markets,

Lots of effort has been put in by the owners to make this site one of the best we have been on,

A little gem, so don't hesitate to visit.

We stayed here on our way home from the South of France following a search using the UKcampsite facility.

I concur with the earlier reviews, as the owners couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. I even met the mother-in-law who lives on the end of the row of Gites! There was no toilet block as such, but the gites were empty and we used those: it was just like being at home!

Pitches were spacious, and well kept. There are no facilities beyond those already mentioned, and if that suits you, well fine.

However, the previous week we camped at Moulin Campech in Aquitaine, another British owned site, where for similar money we enjoyed a good, well priced restaurant, a super pool, a trout fishing lake, and shaded pitches. You pays your money and you takes your choice!

Lovely site, great holiday - would recommend.

The reviews of this site are not wrong! It's a great place to relax and unwind. Mike and Cath have established a lovely site and make you feel really welcome.

My husband and I had a very relaxing week here and I was really glad we chose this site. It's a fairly quiet area of the Loire which means you are away from all the touristy parts and get to relax and enjoy some quaint French villages.

In terms of the positives:
The owners could not be more helpful. They came round morning and night to check everything was ok and have a chat about what you have been doing or where you could go. They provided a helpful leaflet with info about shops/ markets / day trips etc. They lent us a parasol, let us use a fridge for free and generally did whatever they could to make sure we had a nice time.

Peace and quiet - the site is so peaceful and is perfect for star gazing on an evening. Although it is a child friendly camp site Mike and Cath clearly cater for children too - with little paddling pools etc - they made sure noise was kept down on a night so people could enjoy their evening meals.

Pitches - were big and really well kept. Mike and Cath did a great job of clearing leaves and keeping it tidy.

Pool - it is as it says on the description - a plunge pool. It was clean and not too chilly! Perfect for cooling down in and never busy.

Other facilities- table tennis table/ darts/ boules/ badminton - all on hand with equipment provided. Bread and butcher van visits the site regularly.

Friendly - it was a really friendly site and everyone chatted on an evening - finding out who had been where and good places to visit.

Negatives. And these are said in the loosest sense as they would not put me off going back.

The facilities (toilets/ showers etc) are fairly basic as in they are more portable cabin style than building blocks as on some French campsites. However I would not let this put me off as they were always clean and always had loo roll and soap. The gite toilets and showers were also available to use if they were not occupied which was really nice. (although on chatting with Mike he said they are only temporary as they are waiting on permission to build a toilet block)

Location - in terms of shops - it's about 15 mins drive to a supermarket or village but there is a bakery 5 mins away. There is nowhere to walk to on an evening for a meal but no need with a bbq, few bottles of wine and a sunset on site! Loche was about 25- 30 mins away and 1 hour to Tours. Again, this depends on what you want as to whether this is a positive or negative. The site itself is beautiful.

I have been to a lot of campsites in France but never been to such a friendly and helpful one where they lend you a fridge for free, you can use a freezer, have picnic tables on pitches and generally make you feel part of what's going on!

There was also a washing machine and tumble drier and lots of books to read.

A great place for a relaxing stay or a good stop over. Thanks for such a great time

This campsite is one of the best we have stayed in throughout the world. The owners mike and kath are incredible, could not do enough for us, brilliant. Facilities are good, we stayed in a tent and one of the studios both fantastic. We will be definitely back. Facilities on site good and surrounding area beautiful. The site is wonderful for children, with ducks and chickens. Our best family holiday and much down to kath and mike.

We booked our stay based on the reviews that had been posted for this site and we were not disappointed.

Mike and Cath, the owners, were very friendly and helpful and our two boys really took to them. I suffered from sun stroke during our stay and they were very helpful providing fans, water sprays etc and kept checking to see if I was OK and if there was anything we needed.

The pitches were extremely spacious and the whole site was well maintained.

The site is next to working farms and our boys loved seeing the fields being harvested, hay being baled and then trasported to the barn down the road.

Obterre itself is very small with few amenities and the other local village - St Flovier, is also quite small. That being said, there is a small restaurant in St Flovier that served a four course lunch, plus wine for 11. 50 Euros - definitley worth a visit!

We tended to head to Chatillon Sur Indre for the supermarket (20 minutes away) and Loches for the market (about 30 minutes), both of which have Donjons to visit.

Our boys found these 'castles' much more interesting than the stately home type chateaux. We visited two other chateaux as well (Bridore and Azay Le Ferron), as well as the lake at Bellebouche, the zoo at Beauval (which is the best zoo I have ever been to) and Futuroscope - none of these required driving for more than an hour.

The weather was quite hot during our stay (as evidenced by the sun stroke referred to earlier!), so the plunge pool on site was used on a number of occasions to cool off and, although it isn't really a swimming pool, it was big enough for our boys to practice their swimming in.

Quite a few people on the site during our stay were people returning to the site so it shows that people rate it, and we will definitely return given the opportunity.

This is a exceptionally well maintained site in a beautiful and peaceful area of central France. The owners are very helpful and friendly and the facilities are second to none.

The pitches are huge and the site is surrounded by many pretty country tracks ideal for walking with or without the dog.

Baker's and Butcher's vans come to the site regularly and major supermarkets are within a 20 min. Drive.

All the big Loire Châteaux are about an hour to the north and the Brenne national park is half an hour to the south and there are many interesting places in between which do not appear in the guide books.

Le Cormier is a very special place to visit, if you want to get away from the rat race then you will love it there,

Cath and Mike the owners will make every effort to make you welcome and they are always there to give information and advice,

The campsite is clean and well kept and the pitches are large and flat, the toilets and showers are good,

The site is surrounded by wildlife and nature,

As for provisions Obterre village has limited supplies and we went to Loches which has all you need about half an hour drive away.

A baker and a butcher visit the site with lovely french fare twice a week,

The location is good for the lakes and there are lots of Chateaus to visit, as it was great weather while we were there it was great to sit in the grounds and soak up the surroundings.

The area is a must for anyone into bird watching or nature,

On the whole it was a great week away and I would recommend the site to anyone.

We stayed in the Gite at Le Cormier late July 2011; my Wife and I plus four children aged between 15 and 8; all the kids slept in pup tents on the camp site with their Grand Parents. The Gite was spotlessly clean, well appointed and modern.

Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for Cath, Mike or their daughter, I could have written at length on the merits of this peaceful and rural site however it has already been said many times over in previous reviews and is all completely justified.

At the time of our visit the Splash pool was in use and most afternoons we would use it to cool off.

If you have children and are looking for things to do then the plage at Étang de Bellebouche is well worth a visit as is “Le Haute Touche” at Azay Le Ferron which makes a nice bike ride of about 22 km.

Truly a five star site!

To find something that hasn't already been said about this lovely campsite it quite difficult because we agree with all the reviews 100%. This site has many positives starting with the lovely welcome. I would have said that it would have been nigh on impossible to put a smile on my DH's face after driving from Scotland through the night and a longer than expected 7 hour drive from Calais to find the site. Especially as we got so close and then got lost. To give you an idea of the hospitality, we had already called Cath and Mike once to check that we were on the right road. They advised we were 10 minutes away. 40 minutes later we called again to say that we couldn't find it and Mike was dispatched to come and guide us in. As we arrived Cath came out to greet us and take our drinks order and one unhappy Scotsman started to relax ! Nothing was too much bother for this couple and each evening Mike or Cath or sometimes both did a quick round of the site to check that everything was alright. Mike's Mum Bessie was also very much part of the charm of Le Cormier and added to the family atmosphere.

First impressions were excellent and we were delighted that the site was so picturesque. The pitches are in what probably would have been an orchard and the old farmhouse house and gites are built around a lovely courtyard complete with a duckpond. At the time of year we visited all the flowers were also in full bloom around the courtyard giving bright summary splashes of colour.

All twelve pitches are huge and quite level. Some have good shade and some have full sun. During our visit it June there was a heat wave in the Loire with temperatures reaching 40 degrees so we were very glad of the shade. All have good access to the hook up and the site is quite compact so the water is not far either.

The official toilet block is still under construction so currently the 2 studio's and the gite are open for showers and the loo. The gite especially felt quite luxurious compared to the usual camping showers as its bathroom was very well appointed with a large powerful shower and plenty of space. All showers and loos were spotless at all times. We are sure that the official toilet block will be of the same high standard when complete.

If you are unlucky enough to have inclement weather, the barn doubles as a games room and has a ping pong table, there is also a bookswap table in one of the studios just now.

There is no official shop at the site but local wine is on sale and can be refrigerated for you. They will also freeze ice blocks for cool boxes. Local bakers and butchers visit the site a couple of times per week in high season. The villages of St Flovier and Obterre are just a 5-10 minute drive for fresh bread and croissants the days that the baker doesn't visit. For other shopping, St Flovier has a brilliant alimentation store with good quality fruit and veg, a small butcher and deli counter and some cans and dry goods like pasta. They also have a range of wines and beers. Its worth visiting this shop just because its like stepping back in time- think of Arkwrights in Open All Hours but in a French village. We much preferred this to the expensive and not very good quality shopping we bought at the Casino shop in Azay le Ferron. 15 minutes away from the site, is a well stocked Intermarche in Chatillion sur Indre and if you really need to stock up - less than 30 minutes away is Leclerc on the outskirts of Loches.

The site is near to the Brenne National Park with its lakes and beaches. This is a haven for bird watching and other wildlife but beware if you have a dog- they are not allowed in some of the park (ie the bits we had time to go to!) There are local vineyard visits which Mike and Cath can arrange for you and the famous chateaux of the Loire are about an hour away. We just went there to chill out and its a perfect spot to do this also.

The other big plus for us is that the site was dog friendly. There are two fields one opposite the campsite and one at the back where you can let the dogs off and loads of long walks around and nearby. Cath will also organise vet appointments in nearby Chatillion for dog immigration requirements on the way home. The vet there was very efficient and the treatment cost 54 euro.

The only criticisms - if you could call it that- were:-

Its quite tricky to access the site via St Flovier towing a large caravan. We have a Pennine Pathfinder and found it tight. The tiny roads have very sharp turns going through the village out to Obterre. Try and find a different route in and out if this bothers you.

Its was extremely hot while we were there and the plunge pool was not up. As it was, we took to having lots of cool showers to get comfortable. It was up when we stayed on our way back to Calais.

It was all British people. Not saying that this is a negative, we did meet some lovely people, but sometimes it adds colour to have an international mix.

None of the last 3 points would put us off of going back to Le Cormier - it really was a super site with lovely hosts. We would recommend it to anyone who wants some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting.
