Reviewers - mature couple with campervan and bikes.
We stay here most years and consider it a sort-of-ok site. However the recent reviews made me rather anxious about staying this year. But as we were visiting friends locally and the next nearest campsite appears to have closed down, we decided to stay anyway.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that although there had been no improvements to the site, it was in no worse a condition than before. The grass had been cut tidily, the facilities were clean and working. In fact I think a little maintenance had been done, there were locks and hooks replaced. And I was surprised to see an extra washroom had appeared from behind a locked door, with a baby bath/shower and basins. No extra toilets though, they continue to be a disadvantage. The cleaner was in between 1 and 2. 30 pm each day. And although the site was busy, there was little queuing, though people were still showering at midnight!
But the illuminations in town are lovely, on every night from April to Sept I think. Some are just static lights but some are animations, the ones at the Cathedral are stunning, the son et lumiere show there lasts about 15 minutes.
We were so happy and relaxed there we stayed an extra day and cycled back into town the second night to see the lights again.

We stayed here for one night and found it very handy for visiting Chartres Cathedral.
The site itself has relatively large, shady pitches and was very handy for the N154. When we turned up reception was closed for lunch and we had to wait until 2pm until it re-opened; we could have had a friendlier reception.
Once we'd checked in and picked a pitch we walked into Chartres along the footpath/bike route directly outside the campsite. With our pushchair it took less than 30 minutes to walk in to the historic quarter of the town. The Cathedral is well worth a visit and there were lots of very nice salon du the (expensive!) in the vicinity.
When we returned my other half cycled to a massive intermarche, which was 5 minutes down the cycle path the other way, whilst I entertained our toddler on the play area. The play area did have a massive bit of loose concrete which was dangerous, but otherwise was an okay play area. There was a baby bath in the general washing area and a change station, which was helpful.
We were very careful to keep everything locked having been given a notice about theft on checking in, but we didn't have any problems.
In short, we would visit the site again for sure to visit Chartres and to break the journey back up from Spain.

This used to be a site I would recommend as 'OK for an overnight stop' but don't think I would, after this year's visit. The site lacked maintenance everywhere - long grass, potholes, broken fences, broken hook-up points, and dirty smelly toilets. The staff (as mentioned) were unfriendly and positively surly.
Additionally we were given a printed sheet warning of thefts from the site (apparently becoming common on several other 'city' sites), and for all these reasons I think it would now be a site that I would avoid. I would try to find a more rural site, with cleaner and better maintained facilities.

I think we were lucky with the warden, it must have been a different man as he was quite friendly and helpful.
The site is full of trees so finding a satellite tv signal is difficult, in the end we pitched up on an unofficial area next to the facilities. Not very nice, bur we were only staying 2 nights.
As usual, we didn't really use the facilities, but popped in and they didn't seem too bad.
The best thing about Chartres is the amazing cathedral, an absolute must see. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much in the city centre, but it looks very pretty. All the supermarkets and garages are around the ring road.
It's best to use satnav to locate the site, we found the signposts confusing. It's quite simple once you know though.

Another overnight stop over point, used by Brits and other European residents. Due to this it fills up quite quickly from 17:00 onwards.
Easy to find from the N154 and the pitches are flat and most reasonably large. Electric hook up points are dotted about(6amp)but you may need a long lead. All pitches are under trees so well shaded. Facilities are fair but clean for a large City Municipal but take your own toilet paper! Not too much in the immediate area but out of the site and turn right and then left at the lights takes you to the hypermarket and cheap diesel. On site there is a mini snack bar selling chips and similar products by the Grumpy old Lady.
It is a Municipal site so there tends to be a few old rickety statics and the few itinerant types about in vans/twin axles, I even saw a huge articulated lorry with slide outs from a fair ground near to our pitch, although we did not encounter any problems or felt there would be.
The main problem I found was the lack of customer care from the 2 odd bods who seem to manage it. Very unhelpful, no smiles no please or thank you. I don't expect red carpet treatment but we are the customers! Other campers all said the same regardless of nationality, perhaps a short email to the Marie might improve things.
In my opinion ideal for the 1 night stop but not for much longer!

We stayed here for an overnight stop on the way back to the ferry, thinking it would be easy walking into Chartres to eat. It was further out of centre than we realised (3km) and too far for us to walk. We settled for home made mince & potatoes instead!
The site seemed sad and tired but was also very busy. We used our ACSI card & paid only 13 euros for the night. The electric hook up we were given was old style and we had to delve into our box of tricks in the motorhome to adapt the connection.
The toilets and showers were adequate but also sad & tired with no loo paper.
On our visit it seemed like gypsies had moved onto part of the site with big trucks & circus type containers parked up.
OK for an overnight stop and not expensive with an ACSI card out of season.

Wanted somewhere to stay in Chatres to watch the last time trial stage in the Tour de France. My girlfriend had read some bad reviews and didn't want to stay there but I insisted because of it's convenient location to the City.
How glad I am that I did! We both were very happy about staying there. It is nice site with good facilities and nice helpful staff.
It's about a 20 minute walk into the town along the river Eure, very pleasant. Generally the toilet block was reasonably clean which considering the amount of people using it was no easy job.
We never had to queue to use the facilities. There is a small bar that sells chips and pizzas and I think beer. Tables dotted around the site to eat at should you wish to do so. I even managed to book via the internet which considering my French is something!
I, (we!) would recommend this site to anyone without hesitation. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I would not use this site again.
We usually stop in Courville sur Eure, but decided to try this one as we wanted to go to the cathedral again.
The guide says it has direct access to the river, but when we were there all the gates were locked.
I did not think the staff were friendly or helpful - in fact they were were the only really rude and unpleasant French site managers I've come across.
The loos were clean enough and the shower I had was lovely, but when I went to wash up with my son on Friday morning the water was barely warm, and I had to keep emptying my washing up bowl to refill with slightly warm water.
It was quieter than I thought it would be, from being so near the town, but I much prefer the municipal at Courville - and it's half the price as well.

Excellent site from which to explore Chartres. 15 or so units in residence each night so very quiet, free wifi at reception, plus pizza and chips available, but only limited hours at this time of year. Friendly staff and easy walk into chartres. Toilet block excellent with plenty of hot water. Plenty of easy cycling in the area and would certainly use again. Grassy pitches which could be muddy at this time of year but hard standing was available. Walk by river leads straight into old part of chartres so very handy.

This is generally a stopover site, however worthy of a couple of nights stay.
We stayed at this site on our journey south.
It is spacious, however can become very crowded. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and well maintained even when the site was full. There is a small take away area, did not try it as there was a supermarket nearby. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The price was very reasonable.
Chartres is an endearing town and a visit to the Cathedral is a must.
We arrived at 4pm and there were plenty of spaces, but almost immediately after that it became very full and electricity points were very quickly unavailable.
Suitable really for a short stay only.
Would return.
