We stayed here for 3 nights over easter. Really easy to find being on the A6. Owners very welcoming. The tent field is off the car park with lovely views. On arrival we did think being so close to the road it may be noisy, but all the time we were in the tent (before 9am and after 9pm) we hardly heard any traffic noise at all.
When we arrived they had had snow and rain so the ground was muddy and a few people needed pulling out of the field by the owners land rover, but it must have good drainage because although we had a lot of rain the field got no worse. The field is fairly flat just a slight slope. The caravan field is next door, behind the hotel.
There are two heated wet rooms with a toilet, sink and a good hot shower. We found if you went for a shower before 9am we never had to queue (there were about 10 units on site at the time). Food in the hotel is great (pie and pud £7.50, 2 steaks for £12) we ate there every night and breakfast and everything was lovely, freshly cooked and big portions. The owners were really friendly and helpful, as were all the other staff.
There are some lovely areas to explore, the viaduct at monsal head is a must. We also had good days out at Chatsworth house and Bakewell.
We had a lovely time, already booked another weekend here in may!

Used this site as some non caravanning friends stayed in the pub accommodation. Sue and her husband very friendly and helpful, the food in the pub fantastic basic pub grub and our friends said the breakfast was fantastic. Toilets/showers clean and tidy but chilly as central heating not on (minus 3 on second night)
Very good for visiting surrounding area and walks, dog loved it would recommend, better for older visitors not much in way for children (but that's the way we like it)

We spent the week based here. Ideally situated for discovering Derbyshire. We visited Buxton, Bakewell, Chesterfield and the beautiful Matlock Bath - a must for the illuminations & fireworks.
The site was a bit soggy but Sue was a great host and hubby pulled us out on the day we left as the weather was awful. The food in the hotel was fantastic and the children settled well. A small site (but we prefer this) the showers were clean and plenty of hot water. Being on the A6 it was easy to find and quick to get to anywhere.
We will visit again.

Stayed at the site during October half term. Site is perfectly situated for walking & visiting the surrounding area and perfect for having the lovely pub. Ate there one evening and the food and service were excellent-having excellently priced theme nights during the week ie 2 steaks for £12 or pie & pud night. Were unfortunate that we had a major problem with our car on arrival and the owners very kindly put us in touch with a local garage-Stella Motors at Doveholes who were also fantastic, even loaning us a car while repairing ours. Whilst stranded at the site though, we had no problem as the facilities were excellent-warm, clean, free wet rooms with plenty of hot water. Walked straight from the site towards Flagg-Chee Dale-Priestcliffe and back-absolutely beautiful. Would definitely recommend this site and will visit again.

Just got back from a mixed (weather wise) weekend in Derbyshire. Campsite is good, but may be stretched in high season. Toilets / showers are fab, inc central heating.
Ate in hotel both nights, superb log fire, food good, pie and pud on friday night excellent value, as was campsite at £15.00 / night inc hook up. Staff friendly and helpful.
Area is fantastic with loads to do for everyone, although campsite hasn't got much for children, better suited for adults.
Would definitely return.

Have never camped as our family on our own so went last minute and chose somewhere close to home. Couldn't get in at two places so picked this place using the availability calendar. Wished more campsites used the calendar. What a find. Easy to find as on the A6 from Buxton. I went on ahead and pitched up as my husband and boys were working/cricket school. Basic campsite with 5 hookups for caravans. Field behind the pub which is let out on number of people and not tents. Two new wet rooms with toilets showers and washbasins just like en-suite at home. Showers are free with lots of hot water. If the showers are in use and you need the toilet you use the toilets in pub. Good value for 4 of us at £10 a night. No noise from the A6 through the night.
Ate at pub on Friday night although hadn't intended. It was Pie night with pudding for £7.50. Excellent! Mine hosts very friendly. We did a 9 mile walk around the area going to Millers Dale back up to Taddington and then to Chelmorton. Called in the Queens at Taddington for a drink but the Church inn at Chelmorton was closed when we got there. Good views all around and plenty of walks to be done.

Just returned after two very good nights. Very welcoming and friendly. All staff were very helpful and considerate. Toilets / showers as previously mentioned by others, very good and the main reason for selecting the site. Pot washing was a bit of a surprise, namely because it was in the back of the Pub kitchen. The pub itself is very clean and comfortable. We had a lovely evening meal on the Saturday night. It was a reasonable price and good service. One or two very noisy people on site, but no fault of owners. The site albeit on a main road and under the Manchester flight path caused no issues whatsoever. The site affords easy access to Buxton and surrounding dales. The views are very good. The Tent field has a gentle slope and at the top near the caravan field access to electric can be gained.

My brother and I stayed here in 2 tents for 3 nights and cannot praise the site and the owner's highly enough! A warm welcome, good food and good showers (although at very busy times another toilet would be useful). The owners restrict the number of units so the field is never too crowded. The camping ground is very well drained and despite rain every night the ground never became boggy underfoot

A pleasant site giving easy access to all major tourist locations in the Peak District area. The site was easy to locate and offered good hard standing facilities coupled with a 16amp electrical supply, fresh water and chemical disposal point. The food at the adjacent pub (The Waterloo Hotel) was excellent. The menu is extensive and will cater for most tastes. There are two modern and well equipped shower/toilet blocks providing a plentiful supply of hot water at no additional costs. The downside is that once both showers are in use the toilets are out of action as they are both combined within each unit. This could cause a problem at peak times/school holidays as the facilities are used by both the caravans AND adjacent camping field. Overall this site had everything we wanted. We had a very pleasnt stay for what was our first visit to this area Would I use this site again? The answer would be a definite, yes.

Lovely site. Sue, the owner was so very friendly and helpful. The chef has a second job, helping people push their units into place, very useful! There are only two toilets with showers in, which may be a problem if camping field full, but they were extremely clean, well maintained and the showers were good and hot. Food in the pub was very tasty and well priced. The actual site is very accessible and well positioned for exploring the area being right in the middle of Buxton and Bakewell. The fact that it is right on the main road may put some people off, but road noise was certainly not an issue for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break there and would certainly look to re visit this site.
