We stayed over for one night on the 10th December to coincide with a trip to Southwell races. The course is only about a 10 - 15 minute walk away from the campsite and slightly less to the village pub.

The site was very peaceful and well kept with minimal, but very clean, facilities and is open all year with hook up so we would definitely consider another stay during the winter and found it very good value too

The owner was very friendly and exceptionally helpful which made the stay even more enjoyable so we would not hesitate to recommend this site and a day at the races.

Just returned from a wonderful five days at Meadowfield. This was our third stay here so I thought it was about time I wrote a review.

We love this site as it is only around three quarters of an hour away from us.

This is by no means a large commercialised site and to be honest that's one of the reasons we like it so much. Every time we have visited it has always been so lovely and peaceful. It is completely secluded but still in easy walking distance to two pubs/restaurants, children's play area and a local post office/minimarket.

The toilet/shower block is always kept clean and is ample for the amount of campers.

There is a very large field that both our children love running around and playing racquet and ball games on. There is also a small wooded area which is ideal for hide and seek. The owners (Tony and Rachel) have always been very friendly and helpful.

There are two goats that the kids loved and aslo chickens and ducks.

As one of the other reviews stated there are some small fragments of broken clay pigeons on the field, but we visited a few days after one of the shoots and felt perfectly safe for our children to be playing there. As for it being dangerous if children were running around bare footed, simple keep your shoes on. Personally I wouldn't let my children run around any field without their shoes.

To sum up we love this place and will certainly be returning next year for several more visits.

We've just come back from a long weekend at this lovely quiet site. Situated just three miles from the cathedral town of Southwell, on the edge of the village of Rolleston, it is a well hidden haven.

The site consists of two distinct areas - a large open field mainly used for rallies and events, which could probably take at least 30 units, and a small enclosed area closer to the house and greenhouse. This is used mainly for caravans and motor-homes and has half a dozen 12Amp hook-ups. It was certainly very quiet during our stay with just six units (including one tent).

This has been an award winning gardens many years ago, but now the former gardens are a sorry state and would best be cleared and made into a small bay of hard standings. The owners don't seem interested in developing the site, which is a great shame, as it could have great potential. Indeed at the time of our visit the site has been on the market for some eight months.

Facilities are basic, one small block consisting of one gents loo & sink and one for ladies, with one shower. Showers are charged extra. These were always clean, and there was only one time that we had to wait. Take your own loo roll/tissues!

There is a bus stop about a hundred yards from the end of the drive to the site, with hourly buses to Mansfield or Newark. The Crown Inn in Rolleston village is a Bistro type pub, and pretty pricey. The Bromley Arms in Fiskerton - just a mile away is a more traditional pub, which also serves meals. It is not cheap either. There is also a delightful tea rooms at the old vicarage in Rolleston village.

There is one village shop in Fiskerton, which stocks the basics and local farm produce - excellent for the Bar-B-Q! There is a large Co-op at Southwell, and a Morrisons at Newark.

Newark is a delightful little town with good shops and well worth spending a day there. Southwell has its historic minster church and some small shops and should be visited at least once. It also has a garden centre with cafe on the Fiskerton road. Southwell Racecourse is actually at Rolleston village - so if you fancy a flutter.

At £12 a night - including hook-up - this site is ideal for a few days. It has no facilities for young children, but the large field offers lots of room for supervised play.

This site definitely goes down on our list of sites to go back to.

We only live in Nottingham so we decided to use this site for a practice run in our recently purchased campervan, it is a very laid back site with very friendly staff/owners.

We enjoyed our time there so much we have been back since in October.

There is a nice riverside pub around 20 mins walk away and a decent village store.

There's is only 2 toilets one men and one female but we didn't find this a problems the shower is adequate and costs £1 for three minutes.

Look out for the bats when it gets dark.

I booked this site as we had a family gathering in Southwell and this site was ideally located. We camped with my brother in law and his family of 2 young children, together with our teenagers and we all had a really great time.

We loved the basic facilities of the site and the excellent space, for peak season. In the huge field we were able to grab a quiet corner for our 2 campervans + awnings and I guess there were probably no more than 8 other tents in the whole field!

The grounds were lovely, although the pond was completely dried out! The owners were on vacation, but the family left in charge made us feel very welcome and I even enjoyed a guided tour of the extensive glass houses and their contents + the orchard, which I was told contained an apple tree from each local Notts variety of apples!

Due to family event we attended on the Sat night in Southwell (lovely town), we didn't get too much time to explore, but we did have a lovely walk along a section of local riverside, followed by a picnic today before we returned home.

A great area and a fab site. Would definitely like to come back again.

We stayed a single night at this campsite (Saturday) as it is a local one to us and it allowed us to try our tent and preparations out for longer stays as we haven't been camping since childhood. We chose this site for it's location and also because it had the basic amenities we needed to make sure we could cope in a tent.

The site was easy to find, being signposted from the Sat Nav point for the Postcode, and upon arrival we were told to pick our own pitch in the camping field. We were the only tent there, with about 4 caravans in a smaller field, so had the pick of the place. We chose a sheltered area near the small copse so the kids had a good run around while we unpacked and got ready.

The toilet block was clean and easy to access, the owners had even placed some toilet paper in with our name on. Shower room was also clean but we didn't make use of it. The large field allowed the children to run around to their hearts content, playing football and frisbee games. They visited the goats in the paddock at the end of the field and played hide and seek in the woods.

The owner was friendly and helpful and made sure we had settled OK. The sheltered area meant as the wind and rain came in the night we didn't get the worst of it.

We used a small barbecue for dinner and one of the nearby caravans had a large roaring fire in a metal fire pit.

We asked about a late exit as we didn't want to rush off from our first camping trip and were told that was fine.

On the Sunday we walked into nearby Rolleston, part of the walk is on a road without pavements but as it's not a busy road we, or the children, never felt in danger. Although there was a local pub which looked good our objective that day was to find a children's play area. After asking a local we found an excellent play area next to the Village Hall (15 minutes walk in total) just a bit further down from the pub. It had play areas for younger and older children all in excellent condition, no graffiti, vandalism or litter and they even had a basketball rolling around on the basketball court. We didn't find any local shops but didn't look too hard as the children just wanted to play.

Even though this site is very local to use I can see us revisiting again as a good start to each season.

For a three word summary of this site I'd use – peaceful, basic and rustic

This is a nice quite site. It only has one single toilet cubical for men, one for women and beware toilet paper is not provided.

The field is big, when we were there; there are few tents and lots of space to play and this was a half term holiday. Any more people and the queue for the toilet would have been disastrous.

The shower takes 20p coins for 60 seconds of water, which equates to 40p for a lightning shower. The pond had tadpoles and tiny fish.

The field was covered with broken clays from a clay pigeon shoot, sharp to the bare feet. We will be back again.

I marshalled a rally for the Elddis Owners club here for the first time this year and we were very pleased with the site.

Tony, the owner, visited us every day to make sure we had everything we needed.

Toilet and shower facilities were very clean. We were in a field away from the other pitches and therefore did not disturb them.

We would definitely recommend this site and look forward to visiting it again next year.

This is a lovely small certified site in an idyllic East Midlands location. We spent 4 nights here at half term and found the site to be perfect. The site is well laid out with space for 5 caravans/motorhomes, plus a number of tent pitches (some with electric) around the outskirts of the main field. The centre of the field is kept free for kids to play on (as ours did extensively). There's also a small pond (full of tadpoles and frequented by beautiful dragonflies when we visited)

The site is really well kept and a credit to its owners (who were away on holiday the week we visited and so we were treated to the splendid hospitality of the owner's father and his brother - and really nothing was too much trouble for them). As others have said, there's a multitude of rare breed chickens, ducks and various other feathered creatures, plus a couple of goats, all of which proved fascinating to our boys (age 6 and 3). There's also some huge greenhouses where the owners grow a multitude of fruit and veg, and the site sell home made jams etc, plus fresh eggs, to their guests.

Facilities are basic on the site, with just 1 shower (extra charge - we didn't need to use it), plus separate ladies and gents loos. These were spotless but don't forget your loo roll!

In terms of location, the site is excellent, at just 10 mins drive from the A1. Nearby Rolleston is just 10 mins walk away, with a train station serving Newark, Lincoln and Nottingham if you fancy a day out. Fiskerton is 15 mins or so walk, and has a lovely pub on the banks of the Trent with great beer and food, plus a post office / groceries shop. The nearby villages are easy and very quick to cycle to and the terrain is flat.

All in, its hard to find any criticism of this site. OK so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the big sites, but frankly we didn't miss that at all - the kids made friends in seconds, and the tranquillity of the site is perfection. What's more you're not gonna pay mega-site prices. We would thoroughly recommend the site, and will definitely be returning.

Just come back from 2 nights at this lovely site. All tents are pitched on the outside which leaves plenty of room in the middle for kids to play.

There is only 1 male and 1 female toilet but didn't have to wait at all and are kept very clean. There is 1 shower and the water was very hot.

The owners are very friendly and helpful and showed us around the site which includes goats and chickens (kids got a fresh egg each). There is a small pond which had tadpoles in it and fish.

This site had everything we wanted quiet, friendly, secluded, safe and very helpful owners.

Will definitely be visiting this site again!
