Read reviews and thought we would give this site a try
Good Points - amazing views and fab location, fairly close to whitby and the local off road cycle track. The site was easy to find. There is lots of space for kids to play. You are able to have campfires. Four fields to choose from when picking your spot to camp
Bad Points - we stayed for three days the shower/toilet were not cleaned. Two toilets on site but one is in the shower room so if anyone is showering and the site is busy you may have to queue for the other toilet. The rubbish bins were overflowing and there were signs everywhere asking you to take your own rubbish to the tip and don't bin it on site.

Stayed here with my girlfriend. We picked this site because of it's close proximity to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay and the fact you can have camp fires.
It was fairly quiet when we stayed here so we could pitch up pretty much where we wanted.
The views of Whitby were brilliant. You can see most of the town from the camp site, and luckily we had a clear day and night with a great sunset so it was brilliant sat out watching the sunset. Earlier that day we'd been to Robin Hood's Bay which is a must visit. The following day we visited Whitby which is one of my favourite places.
Facilities weren't brilliant. I gather that they are building a new toilet and shower block which will improve things. I know this bothers some people and not others. Certainly didn't bother us as we were only there one night and if you're really after 5 star facilities then go to a 5 star hotel!
I'd suggest taking firewood to the site if you're going to have a fire as some guests had resorted to ripping tree branches off!
The owner was helpful and answered anything I needed to know.
I'd also recommend a trip to Goathland if you stay here, the village where 'Heartbeat' is set.

What a fabulous site!
Forget 'wall to wall' tents, being able to hear your neighbours' every word, not having any privacy, queues at the toilets.
This is camping as I love it: Peace and freedom.
The site has several large fields which, when other sites in the Whitby/RHB area were full, had a handful of tents on them, none of which were less than 100 feet away. (This was mid-August, remember!)
There are no rules, as other people have said, but, while we heard a little noise from a group of 'youngsters' on the other side of the field, it was never intrusive.
The views are fabulous. Campfires are allowed (which is such a rarity nowadays). The owners are helpful but not intrusive. The facilities (two toilets, one shower, two taps) are adequate unless you hanker after luxury.
Don't be put off by the shabby appearance of the farmyard and buildings: it doesn't look like much but if you want a good, old-fashioned, basic and beautiful camping experience on the North Yorks coast, THIS is THE place to go.
(£5 per person per night, by the way.)

This is a very basic site - basically a couple of fields with a toilet in the farmyard (quite a walk from the pitches). Its minimum facilities are matched by pretty low key wardens which does mean late night noise, fires, etc can be a problem. Its also near the main A171 and the traffic was surprisingly loud at night. Finally the nearest public transport is a mile or so away, either by the main road (without footpath) or very overgrown paths over fields.
All that said we did actually enjoy it here - the view is superb (looks down on Whitby from 5 miles away), its spacious (so the nearest noisy group was just far enough away to not be a problem), and when all other local sites were full this still had space. The walk across fields on an extremely overgrown footpath, and then down into Robins Hoods Bay (about 40 mins walk) was actually quite an adventure.
The area is wonderful and if you want basic (or noisy) camping then this is the place for you. If you want guaranteed peace and quite and good facilities then go elsewhere.

We were delighted to find a campsite that was happy to take a large group that included several families with young children.
The campsite is spread over several large fields with commanding views of the cliffs, Whitby Abbey and the sea. The facilities are basic but more than adequate. There are no noise restrictions and campfires are allowed.
Although there were other groups camping, there was enough space not to bother anyone with late nights around the campfire. The children thoroughly enjoyed toasting marshmallows and teacakes on the campfire and the space, that gave them freedom to roam and explore.
It is an ideal base for day excursions, exploring Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and the North Yorkshire Moors and at £5 per person per night we found the rates very reasonable.
I cannot fault the hospitality of the campsite owners who even allowed us to use their own facilities for the children when there was a queue for the toilets.
If you are looking for a laidback, back to basics camping experience at reasonable rates then I can thoroughly recommend Sunset View.

I will try and be as objective as I can in writing this review.I have very mixed feelings about the site, first the positive. The scenery and location are fantastic, lots of local walking with the path to Robin Hoods Bay directly across from the site. The site is huge and probably has enough room for several hundred tents. We were camped in a field that was huge with a couple of other tents.
However its not all good, the facilities are not adequate at all, two portaloos and one fixed toilet to serve a site as big as this is not practical at all.I t was fortunate we had taken our own toilet roll as the one roll provided a day is not on really. The shower provided a red hot trickle or an icy cold blast.
The drinking water is from a tank and needs boiling first. Not ideal when the kids want a drink of orange. Also the noise at night was ridiculous with one party being heard all over the site, I don't want to camp with loads of rules but screaming and shouting at 3 in the morning is beyond a joke. I feel something should have been done about this long before that time.
I understand that the site is a work in progress and allowances need to be made, I will definitely be returning to sunset view, this is my kind of camping but it wont be for everyone.

The owner had problems calculating how much it would cost me for 3 nights, then charged me an extra £5 per night because I had a 5 man tent (Icarus 500).
There is 1 indoor toilet, 2 portaloos, and 1 shower, to cater for the site. The queues for the shower were ridiculous, and the portaloos were overflowing, with no toilet roll, and no water for the taps. Not nice! On top of this, there is only 1 drinking water tap for the whole site which is situated inside the only indoor toilet, so expect to queue for a long time. There is also only 1 wheelie bin to get rid of any rubbish, which is inadequate for a site of this size.
On the plus side, the views are stunning, and being able to have camp fires was great. However, the site is very exposed and catches all the wind. There are no rules, and so you may get a lot of very rowdy people partying

This campsite has everything required for a relaxing break with proper traditional camping. The coastal views and sunsets are exceptional and it has loads of space for the kids to play, fly kites and burn off their excess energy.
The facilities are basic but clean but that is what camping should be all about.
Room to camp without being on top of other tents like you have to put up with on most sites.
Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby are only a few minutes drive away.
I call it Narnia, a place to escape, relax and unwind and enjoy the beauty of the Yorkshire coastline.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a really good time. The views were amazing as you could see down all the way to Whitby. The view was especially pretty at night time due to all the lights you could see. The location is good as it is 5 miles to Whitby (approx 1 and a half hours walk) and 3 from Robin Hood's Bay. We took a walk to Whitby and back which was very enjoyable although a little tiring.
The campsite was fairly quiet which we found to be a positive thing as you were just left to pitch up where you wanted and were not too close to other tents. A big advantage is that this is one of the few campsites which accepts groups and allows campfires. For this reason we plan to go back in the future.
Facilities are very basic with just the one shower room and a couple of toilets which to be totally honest do not work very well. However, we have seen worse. Apparently they are planning to build a shower block however this seems to have been on the cards for a while. The landowner was friendly and did come round to check if we were alright.
We would recommend this campsite if you are looking at going camping relatively cheaply and like going back to basics. This was what we wanted from the weekend and it didn't disappoint. However, if you would prefer more facilities such as electric hook-ups, shops and entertainment then this would not be the right place. It would be ideal if you wanted to come as a large family or group and create a party atmosphere to a reasonable time.

This camp site is the best for views of whitby. The owner and his partner are very friendly, and make your stay welcome. If your looking for somewhere to go in a group of lads or lasses this is the place for you.
You can have a fire by your tent and play music all night long. Ive stayed here twice with the lads, and both times were excellent, but still waiting for our fish.
