Once again super time at Bungdale head farm. Fantastic hosts John and Sheila.
Basic campsite but everything you really need for a relaxing break, facilities very clean. Beautiful area, quiet, peaceful place.
Great base for walking, can't wait to visit again soon.

Back to basics camping in beautiful surroundings. Situated about 10 mins drive from the 'White Horse' of Kilburn (and 20 mins from Thirsk), on a working farm.
Be aware that the long access road is very narrow and has a hairpin bend that may be difficult for larger units. Site consists of 2 well maintained paddock fields surrounded by rolling fields (full of lambs during our visit).
Pitches are mostly level and mowed grass. We had a full day of heavy rain which didn't affect the ground conditions at all. We took a tent pitch with electric hook up for a very reasonable £15. 50 a night.
There are 2 toilets each with a wash basin and hot water bolier which are in an old outhouse next to the farmhouse. Basic but clean. Note - There are no showers. A standpipe in the field provides drinking water.
2 nights of our 3 night stay were extremely quiet with only a few other units, lending to a very peaceful, tranquil and relaxed atmosphere. However, for 1 night we were invaded by around 50 schoolkids (presumably on their DofE) and the peace was shattered!
All in all, I would recommend the site for it's location and relaxing atmosphere. If you like a site with all mod cons then this is not for you. For me, it's ideal but would benefit greatly from having shower facilities.

Lovely small friendly basic site on working farm. The NO SHOWERS factor is outweighed by a warm welcome and beautiful location.
Probably not a site for kids with a low boredom threshold. Rievaulx Abbey walkable and Helmsley a short distance away. Both gorgeous.

Karen and I have just returned from Bungdale Head Farm after spending 7 nights there, without doubt the best 7 nights we have spent in a long time. Yes we had rain wind and plenty of sun, the site itself is on a slope so make sure you have a good set of ramps we had no problem. There are 2 toilets with wash hand basins which although basic are clean and tidy, there are no showers but that's not the end of the world.
The entertainment is on every night as the lambs gang up in the evening and chase round the fields, great to watch, and your never without birdsong and wildlife.
Sheila and John are great hosts but are very busy people running the farm but will always try to help when needed, so if it peace and quiet birdsong and wildlife you will not get better than this.
Resect and enjoy the surroundings this must not be spoilt.
Once again Sheila and John thank you very much for our stay will be back to see you soon Karen and David.
ps say hello to bess.

What a fantastic site, so quiet and tranquil. The views are amazing so are the owners, very friendly and helpful.
We will certainly be going back again and again. Its the perfect site to just chill.
Some nice walks from the site, we didn't leave it once.

We stayed at this site for 2 nights. What a great site. Very friendly people.
I forgot the milk the owner of the site gave me some. It's a basic site but very nice views and walks.
I will return to this site in next couple of weeks *****

Just a short visit, very friendly welcome, basic but clean facilities with wonderful views and wildlife. We were able to choose our own pitch. We will certainly visit this site again when in the area.

My wife and I visited Bungdale Head Camp Site for the first week in August.
The site is very well presented with clean well maintained toilets and washing facilities.
The pitches are well maintained and the owners very friendly.
The site is idealy situated on the moores and in a very short drive from Helmsley and Thirsk. I should add that Helmsley is walkable in about 75 minutes.
There are plenty of walks reachable from the site and many more following a short drive. The site is also in easy driving distance of most parts of the North York Moores.
We really enjoyed our time away.

To sum up first of all - an all round basic but pleasant campsite. We spent a week here in a tent with no electric needed (they do have electric pitches too) and found this to be an enjoyable place to stay.
The positives:
A great location for exploring the North York Moors.
Great views from a working farm.
Basic facilities (two toilets and sinks with hot water) were cleaned every morning before most people were even awake.
Friendly owners who were very happy to chat (but not pester) and to give advice and information on the local area.
The splendid Rievaulx Abbey is less than five minutes away, as is the A170 which gives you access to all areas.
Plenty of room for the children to play, especially when the gate to the next field was open.
Reasonable price.
The negatives (and I'm being picky here):
A shower would have been nice (but I was fully aware that they didn't have one before we visited so not a complaint).
We were 'placed' in a particular spot and we always like to choose our own spot, although if we had asked to choose our own spot I'm sure they would have happily complied.
We had the misfortune to be pitched close to someone who liked to have a radio/music on which spoilt the country/peaceful ambiance slightly - not the end of the world or the owners fault but a little irritating.
Would happily use this site again and would recommend to others for sure.

Lovely and quiet but very basic site in the field behind the farmhouse. 2 individual toilets with wash basins in an out building by the side of the house and an open, small drain for emptying the loo!
Lovely owners and beautifully kept farm.
Caravan owners and campervans beware - the country road leading to the site is very narrow and the long, private road into the site is quite rough and EXTREMELY steep at the top - be prepared to 'burn some rubber'!
Great for walkers and Helmsley (4 miles away) epitomises a Yorkshire Dales Market Town - convenience stores, great pubs, quaint shops and the best fare that Yorkshire has to offer!
I would thoroughly recommend this site for people who enjoy the quiet life without all mod-cons.
I'm scoring this site quite highly as it ticks the right boxes for us but may be too basic for others - we have the 'home from home' items in our van.
