I had really mixed views when I arrived at this campsite as we had a terrible time with traffic, we couldn't find the camp site and when we did it started to rain so all in all not a great start to our break!
The site is split into 3 separate areas and it's the smallest site I've ever stayed on, it almost felt like I was camping in someone's huge back garden because of the layout. This may sound mad but my father has a massive garden about half the size of this campsite.
The first couple of nights were fine with like minded quiet campers but a family arrived who were far too loud for such a small area playing dvd's until 11. 30pm, blasting out! They were on the wrong site and would have been better suited to somewhere more lively. Also there was no designated area for ball games which we found a little frustrating with the ball hitting us while eating dinner outside & can imagine for people without kids this could be a problem at peak times when the site is at full capacity.
Owners seemed happy to help and show off 'boys toys' to those interested, the two dogs on the site were very friendly as were the chickens, alpacas were not and did fight a lot while we were there.
Shower and toilet area fine although only one ladies shower as the rest were locked our whole stay, guessing these only open when totally full.
The fridge provided really needs checking due to health and safety as I found milk 2 weeks out of date, cream buns a week out of date, mouldy peas and sweet corn and various out of date bread! I'm not too sure it's a good idea as most people all have their own fridge or cool box and if people don't use it sensibly then it's a contamination risk for everyone, I only wanted to put a bottle of wine in it. I think a dryer would be much more useful to everyone.
We have been to Somerset before and we would now not visit again as we have done most things in this area, the couple at the side of us were really struggling to find places of interest for their small child. Glastonbury was a disappointment, Burnham On Sea was dreadful like some concrete 70's hell hole. Bath and Wells were both fantastic and cannot recommend enough.
You really have to drive absolutely everywhere from this site it would have been nice to walk to the village pub for an evening meal but would involve an hour round trip walking on unlit country roads to walk back in the dark so hardly safe especially for anyone with kids.
The rate charged was very cheap much cheaper than others we have been to but beware of the village store which is very overpriced we spent £26 on one evening meal & a bottle of wine. We never have a budget when on holiday but I'm guessing most families would find this way too expensive! We liked the Waitrose in Wells which is about 30-40 minutes away depending on traffic.

Management response: Whilst we are grateful for all suggestions and reviews, we are very disappointed with this one after all the kind words and amazing feedback we have had since the site opened and are sorry we and Somerset did not live up to expectations. Our advice to campers is to actually read all the information provided both on uk campsite and our own website before booking. Location, amenities, photos and directions clearly show where and what we are, a small rural site in a rural community, away from busy roads, street lights and light pollution, with fabulous views and not a building in sight. Reviews tell us this is the reason why most people choose to come here.
Nearby Wedmore is a beautiful thriving village with a great community spirit that wholeheartedly supports our local shops, which struggle to survive, if you want cheaper supermarkets they are only 15 minutes away in Cheddar or Highbridge. Somerset has plenty of attractions for everyone. Burnham has a busy high street and great beach walks to the lighthouse and beyond. The concrete that stretches along the sea front is an essential sea defence against a changing climate. Glastonbury is quirky but stacked with legend and history, the tor and abbey ruins are fascinating. If entrance fees put you off, there are beautiful nature reserves close by on the levels and the Mendip Hills.
We welcome families here and purposely have no designated areas for anything, the object is to escape from restrictions and bring families to a safe relaxed environment. If this is not desirable, choose an adult only site. We have an 11pm quiet time as stated in our conditions, and are more than happy to address any complaints if we are told about them, just ask.
Our facilities are basic but clean, as for the fridge(provided on feedback from reviews) all campers so far have found it incredibly useful including this reviewer?! It is (and was during this visit),checked daily for smells and leaks, and emptied when it is clear campers have forgotten their items, however we wouldn’t dream of throwing away food and containers unnecessarily and without permission. The "boys toys" we believe refers to the Sea Harrier Jump Jet which was bought to save an important piece of our heritage and history, it fought in the Falklands war and is an incredible feat of British engineering which we want to preserve and share with our visitors,- hardly a toy. We accept there is no excuse for the grumpy alpacas, they assert their pecking order from time to time, please send all complaints to mother nature.
We look forward to welcoming all new, and the many returning guests, who enjoy the wonders of the Somerset countryside.

We've just spent a lovely weekend at this campsite - we were looking for a quick getaway for a couple of nights and this ticked all the boxes. The views from our pitch were spectacular and the general atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. Our three children loved the alpacas and the chance to see a real Harrier up close was a bonus!
The showers and facilities are kept clean. The pitch charges are more than reasonable and we will definitely be returning.

Our second stay in a month, we absolutely love it here.
The site is nice and small, and on both occasions we have been very lucky with it being quiet, although even when full I am sure it would still be fine.
The pitches are really well laid out and you can choose where to pitch when you arrive. The views from all of the pitches are amazing, perfect to drink your morning cup of tea and while away time.
The showers (coin fed) were nice and large with a good area to change in, and plenty of both toilets and showers. Hot and cold water for the washing up sink outside with a nice big draining board.
The alpacas are great to watch and there are many bunnies for the children to run after, and a really nice grass area to play games/fly a kite.
The owners are so friendly and welcoming, really great hosts. It was lovely to take our firepit with us too, great to sit around with our friends, a perfect weekend!

We stayed for a week with our 3 young children.
Firstly the views are fantastic. You can glimpse Glastonbury Tor, and some of the mist rolling off the Somerset levels, this really is an idyllic spot.
Although there's no play area, our girls loved visiting the alpacas, and the thoughtfully placed picnic tables were a good focus for them to play around.
The washrooms were kept clean and tidy, although the showers were coin fed. There is a fridge freezer for campers to use for their freezer blocks, and an honesty box for the farm's free range eggs.
The hosts were so lovely and welcoming.
We did the walk down 2 green lanes into the small village of Wedmore (just over a mile) which leads directly to a fantastic playground.
I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone wishing for peace and quiet and to feel close to nature.

This is a great campsite hidden away in the Somerset Levels. The owners were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome over the Christmas period. They were also great at returning phone calls to confirm our booking and also popped across to say hello upon our arrival. Facilities were ideal for our needs and kept clean and tidy. This is a great base for walking or just chilling out.
Ŵe plan to stay there again later this year.

Before we went to this campsite, I read all the reviews and am not sure that I can really add anything! It's an absolute gem tucked away down a country road with a beautiful view over the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury Tor. The owners are really the most welcoming of hosts, dropping by at least once a day to say hello and have a quick chat. When we arrived, there were 2 other couples camped but they both left the following morning (was it something we said??) and for the remaining 2 nights of our stay, we had the whole place to ourselves. What a treat! Don't think we've ever been to a site which is so totally quiet at night. Spectacular skies at night probably due to lack of pollution and actually saw a shooting star. Village of Wedmore only a few minutes drive away and well worth a visit. Love this place and will definitely go back - reason I've given 7 out of 10 for facilities is that, as mentioned on other reviews, it could benefit from hot water in the washing up sink, but that's a small niggle and I did what other people have done, and got hot water from the washroom.

Fantastic weekend here at Castle Farm with our three young children and 3 teenage neice/nephews, the children loved being able to pet the farm dog and just wander over to see the Alpaca's and 'George' the horse as they pleased, allowing us to sit and relax and take in the fantastic views of the countryside, as this is a small site with no clubhouse, shops ect it was so easy to watch the children and see they were safe, The shower and toilet block are very close, we thought the fridge freezer kept outside was fantastic we kept our drinks chilled and freeze bocks here. The owners were fantastic very down to earth and friendly, very welcoming. We Cannot wait to return here and enjoy it all over again! Would choose this over a busy, hectic, over crowded campsite any day.

From start to finish, Jo and Neil made our visit so easy. A simple 'can you accommodate us?' email was answered quickly and enthusiastically.
We were in the region visiting Cheddar Gorge, so we didn't set up camp until around 17:00. Once the tent was set up, we popped over to have a look around Glastonbury and get some food, then back to the site for a very relaxing evening overlooking the spectacular Somerset landscape. After a relaxing night's sleep, we headed over to Weston-super-Mare for the day before heading home. Getting to the site from Cheddar, popping over to Glastonbury and heading over to Weston were simple due to the central location of the site.
The site is immaculate, away from all road noise and well laid-out. The toilets and shower block were absolutely fine, just like all the other reviewers have said. The alpacas, dogs, horse and harrier(!) were great features. The site's location is brilliant for both coastal and inland activities around Somerset. The serenity can't be over-stated - it is perfectly silent overnight.
Our visit was only for one night, as we definitely had to return home the next day. Without doubt, if our schedule had been more flexible then we would have stayed longer. We will definitely visit again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anybody.

We have returned today from castle farm and felt we had to review as the site is really fantastic. Set in acres of farmland with beautiful views and peace and quiet day and night. Helpful and friendly owners who checked up on all of us throughout our stay, very relaxed atmosphere. Showers and toilets always clean and never busy as the site is so quiet. Our dog became very close to the farm sheepdog, bit of a holiday romance for her! We cant wait to return, my favourite campsite ive been to so far in the 3 years weve been caravanning. Wedmore is a pretty little village down the road with wonderful deli's and local produce. Good award winning butcher. Close to somersets attractions but away from noisy roads. Thanks for a wonderful stay from the davies's.

We stayed here for a long weekend in July, during the heatwave!
The site is fabulous. The owners are so friendly and can't do enough to help and the location is perfect for Cheddar, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury, Weston super Mare. Although it was so hot when we went that we couldn't be bothered to do any sightseeing and we just stayed at our tent the whole time(outside, it was a sauna inside. Phew!).
The facilities are first class the shower is coin operated, a pound coin a time which lasts probably about 20 minutes (check there's none left on the meter) and there are enough toilets for the size of the site. The toilets and showers were always very clean.
There is a fridge/freezer which is really handy for freezing ice packs or putting bottles of wine and beer in (and more useful stuff obviously!).
There are both non electric and electric pitches, and when we arrived we could pretty much choose our pitch.
There is a chemical disposal point, washing up area (which is only cold water but there's a hot water point in the toilets) and a drinking water tap.
BBQs are allowed, as long as they are on bricks, we had a BBQ/fire bowl which was lovely as it got chilly in the evenings despite being so warm in the day.
The views from the site are lovely, with the alpacas being an added bonus, very cute. Neil also has a Harrier Jump Jet, which is fascinating to see at such close range.
A really lovely site and we can't wait to go back again.
