Used this site as a base for a night out in Barnard Castle.

It's in a good location, about a 15 minute walk from town where you'll find a good range of shop and places to eat and drink. The castle is worth a visit too. Great base for exploring Teesdale.

Facilities on site are excellent. Pitches are large with electricity and TV hook up and shower blocks are modern and spotless. Good value - it was about £18 for a motorhome.

Excellent site.

This is a new Caravan Club site, only added to the network last year.

Whilst the facilities are well up to the usual Caravan Club corporate standards, the tree planting, etc. , clearly needs time to mature.

When we were there, in May, the leaves on the trees in the wood opposite the site across the small valley were beginning to grow, & this, disappointingly, was beginning to obscure the otherwise excellent views of the nearby Young Offenders Institute. A pity, really, because this is a fairly new structure in the modern Nissen Hut/ Cow Shed/ Industrial Building architectural style.

The noise from this facility only continued until late evening, which I thought was quite considerate.

Many pitches are located next to a busy road, & the traffic noise served to make up for this shortfall.

I'm afraid our 'best friend' was not impressed with the dog walk, which was short, gravelled, & steeply sloping. To compensate for this, however, a public footpath runs adjacent to the site, although on our visit, this had been obstructed by a landslip.

The Wardens were lovely!

Very disappointing. One of the worst club sites we have visited. Nice new facilities block. Pitches and site very regimented. Site runs alongside a busy main road, very noisy. No footpath along the road, dangerous. Poorly designed dog walk, sloping and gravel ! how are you supposed to clean up properly. Noise and shouting could be heard from the nearby prison facility, especially at lock up times.

Poor pedestrian access to Barnard castle, you need a car to get the best here. Nothing to do without transport, so just a stopover at best for motorhomes.

This cost 3 million pounds, what were the club thinking ?

Just had 3 night stop here on our way back from scotland. Got here at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, got last remaining pitch. Pitch was next to road which we found extremely noisy. The walk into barnards castle is along quite a busy road on a very narrow grass verge. The site itself is very new and the facilities are very good. The wardens appear to be very friendly and helpful. On Sunday at noon there were approximately 10 or more outfits queuing to enter with a few of them out onto the main road so avoid arriving at noon. The road noise alone will preclude our using the site again as it is not guaranteed to get a pitch further into the site further from the road.

This is a really nice site, I believe it was quite new when we were there so I think it could only improve as the trees and shrubbery mature. Caravan Club wardens were polite and pleasant. The walk into Barnard Castle was about 10 minutes walk away. What would have been helpful would have been a path from the site leading to the footbridge which takes you over the river into Barnard Castle as the road is a little busy and fast and can be a bit scary especially at night. Plenty pubs in 'Barney' to choose from, dog friendly. Especially liked the cricketers arms (or similar name) really friendly staff. Prices are quite steep for this site I thought

Visited the second week of August after some really heavy rain around the area on the Friday. Luckily the drive up to area & site itself were fine.

Nice new feel to the site still, though the weeds & thistles could do with a trim we thought. Away from the road it was quiet enough but there is road noise some might find intrusive

Wardens were polite & friendly & the shower block was the warmest I've ever been in.

Apart from the walk into Barnard castle, not much to do direct from the site so have to travel. Not far though to High Force & the lovely River Tees, did a gorgeous 8 mile walk from Cow Green reservoir to Cauldron snout, visited Durham & its fabulous cathedral & a lovely drive over to Weardale.

Great pub food at the Fox & Hounds at Cotherstone just up the road. Nice week but once visited would not rush back too soon for us.

First visit to this site and area.

Nice layout with access down the center of the site to the amenities block, which saved walking around the site roads. Facilities virtually brand new Very friendly and helpful wardens there was some slight road noise evident but nothing to worry about

Very easy access to the site from the A66.

10-15 stroll into Barnard Castle which has a Large market square / street full of shops, restaurants pubs and takeaways.

This site is a little gem. Set in beautiful countryside and just a short walk from the lovely town of Barnard Castle.

Facilities are modern and immaculate and the grounds are beautifully kept.

We enjoyed a lovely circular (approx 3 mile) walk from the site which followed the river Tees to the ruins of Eggleston Abbey. Free entrance and worth a visit.

The wardens on site are very helpful and the site itself is certainly the best Caravan Club site we have visited.

Toilet/shower facilities are exceptional. Keep up the good work!

This was our second visit to this modern campsite.

Location:

Well located within easy walking distance of the town centre, this site is an excellent base for exploring the Teesdale. Nice riverside walk and cycle routes from the site. Helpful staff.

Facilities:

The toilet and shower facilities are superb, with large, modern shower cubicles a motorhome service point. Fish and Hip van calls twice a week. Shop sells some essentials. TV points and service pitches available.

Prices:

£18 per night for motorhome with two people and electricity. Good value for facilities and location.

We must have picked the windiest/wettest week of the year to visit this site! It didn't stop us from enjoying ourselves though. Having taken down the porch awning before it got swept away, we timed out entrance and exits according to the weather.

When it was dry enough, we walked around Barnard Castle itself. The town offers a variety of shops and eateries to suit everyones taste and budget. We particularly enjoyed our meal at the Spice Island Indian resturant - the food and the service were both excellent. We stumbled across the delightful 'Emporium', an antique shop that is real step back in time with many genuine treasures on show. I unearthed some old football programmes that my father wrote in the 1960's so I was really thrilled and handed over my £1. 50 for a copy originally costing 4d (about 1. 5p in todays money).

Going out and about, we went to Durham, using the Park & Ride facility to get us into the heart of town, taking in the beautiful cathedral and strolling by the river. Darlington is also worth a visit and boasts a lovely little cake shop for afternoon tea. For the really brave, try driving across the Teesdale moors to Alston - absolutely breathtaking!

In terms of the site itself, the wardens were extremely pleasant and helpful. They went round and collected all the awnings that had blown down, dried them out and returned them to the owners the following day. We enjoyed the paper delivery service to the site as it meant we didn't have to venture out before breakfast. The showers are really fabulous - that heated floor was most appreciated. It's not really a kids site (which suits us). No doubt it will appear more attractive when the landscape matures as it's current feel is a little bleak.
