We came across this site by accident. we booked a weekend as its only about 30 miles away. we are with the caravan and camping club. we arrived and greeted by ken the warden, a lovely friendly man. our van was parked along side the river idle and you get to fish from here. there are a lot of seasonal caravan as well. the site is lovely and clean and maintained. if you are lucky enough to be there Saturday a bread van comes from nearby epworth, the olive bread and pate are delicious and homemade pork pies too and the haxey gate inn is a few yards across the road where they serve fantastic meals, dogs are only allowed outside but there is a covered area.

Had a short last minute break on this site and if you want peace and quiet, a bit of walking or fishing/boating this is the place to be. With the River Idle and Chesterfield canal close by that leads to some interesting places and pubs to walk to. Plenty of wildlife if that's your thing. Just one toilet and shower for males and females so on a busy weekend could be a problem. The one slight negative for us was the Pub (Haxey Gate)close by wouldn't let our dog in and it was too chilly to sit outside. And be aware a lot of Pubs are shut on a Monday, we walked to Walkeringham and the Pub was shut, then West Stockwith and the one on the marina was shut but Luckily the fantastic White Hart was open and well worth a visit. Well worth a day or two here but wouldn't do a week.

This was our second visit to the site, although the first time we only stayed one night. On both occasions there was a warm welcome and we were shown to our pitch. The site is well kept with the owners continually making improvements, we saw differences between this visit and the first one four weeks ago. The toilet/shower block is basic but kept very clean, also there's only one shower each for men and women although we didn't have to queue.
The site seems very popular and has quite a few seasonal plots where everyone seem to know each other. When we went to the pub there were quite a few groups having barbecues but everyone seem to adhere to the no noise rule. We didn't hear anything after 11pm, the site was really quiet during the night.
Directly outside the site is a pub, The Haxey gate, again we received a warm welcome. We ate here and the food was really good, there is menu offering the usual pub grub, but also a specials menu which we chose from and weren't disappointed. Prices were very good and we will definitely visit again.
It's positioned at the side of the River Idle and has several moorings for narrow boats. You can walk along the river to West Stockwith which has two great pubs, The Waterfront and The White Hart, which has a micro brewery. Both pubs gave a nice welcome, we didn't eat at either although the food looked good and was recommended by customers who had eaten. Their is also a Marina and lock access to the River Trent.
We will definitely visit this site again, it is only 40 minutes from home so is ideal for us. Thanks

A fantastic site. Recommended by a friend who has a seasonal pitch on here. Really nice well kept site. Very nice owners/staff, even parked my caravan for me as I'm new to towing. The site has toilets and showers, basic but kept clean. West Stockwith is a nice walk down side of the river, good brewery pub down that way and the Haxey gate directly opposite for site is very good, we didn't eat here but the meals looked delicious. From talking to other people on the site the owners are always working hard to improve the site and we also witnessed this throughout our stay. We've just booked again for June and have decided to do 2 weekends on the trot, they're even letting us leave our caravan up there through the week for a very reasonable storage fee. Definitely recommended. Roll on June. Thank you

Beautiful site in Doncaster.
Stumbled on this site. So glad we did. A little gem, from the price (15. 00 per unit) to the caravan and camping club pitches (beautfiful, right on river bank) and the really friendly and approachable staff.
Many improvements being completed from subtle night lighting to trees and shrubs being planted.
Lovely Chinese restaurant nearby and white hart at west stockwith worth a visit (may need to book) - dog friendly.

Lovely site, in beautiful surroundings. Lovely staff too. Till quite recently it has been predominantly a caravan site but started letting tents in so the shower/loo facilities for tents were dreadful, shower temperature/pressure very unstable and the building is so old and rickety I had a hard job unlocking both a shower and a loo door.
Thought each time I was going to have to scream for help! I understand that there are plans to replace these with a proper building and move the current facilities to the edge of the Non EHU field Hence we cancelled another visit for later on.
Maybe a return visit when the facilities have improved.

Come here at least 4x a yr. Never used the shower as I use my own. Lovely site therebis a long waiting list for seasonal pitches so that should tell you plenty. 16 amp ehu. Lovely walk from the site into west stockwithe which also has 2 nice pubs the river trent runs through it. Also it is the start of the chesterfield canal. Nice walks along there.

This is our 6th visit since finding this camp site this year. We love it. The owners are very friendly and very helpful. Its an ideal site for fishing which is free while on site also for boating along the river idle and across the road is the golf course and the haxey gate inn which serves good food and local ales and a sunday carvery, also you can hire boats out from there too and golf clubs. Great surroundings and walks. A bakers van comes on site on a saturday selling all sorts. A mile down the road is the village with a co. Op, butchers, chippy and pizza place. The site is huge with half EHU and other non electric. Pot wash area is under review it has no hot water but the owners are going to get it sorted and by the way the site is going I think they will, toilets and showers basic but we had no problem, clean and tidy and cost 50p for a token and had loads of time for a shower. All in all a basic but good site and friendly people. And I am sure it will improve. Price for the night is 15. 00 with e. H. U, no charge for dogs or children and no extra bank holiday fees too. Its just one fee and no up front charges you pay when you get there. Love this site we are going in October for Halloween which is supposed to be a good weekend not to miss. Check it out.

Stayed 2 nights and luckily were on one of the CL hard standings which are quite well spaced out. If you have to stay beyond the barrier, then good luck. There are 2 fields and you are very close together with less than basic facilities. However this is in a nice spot next to the river and just 100 yards from the pub.
