Recently spent a weekend at the site. The owners were very welcoming and took us to our pitch on arrival.
The site itself is huge. There is plenty of space for the kids to run around on the rally field. There is also a small playground as well. The river is accessible from the site and great for anyone with a canoe or dinghy.
There is a good dog walk which takes you down the side of the site and back up the opposite side of the river bank (about a 30 minute walk).
Straight opposite the site is the Haxey Gate Inn. This is a nice friendly pub with outdoor seating overlooking the river.
The nearest shops are in Misterton and Haxey. They are both around a 20 minute walk or a short drive away. There is a supermarket in Misterton and a few pubs in both the villages.
For anyone staying longer than a weekend the toilet and shower facilities are limited. There is only one shower and two toilets. Depending on where you pitch you could be a decent walk away from the toilets.
This is a good value for money site and ideal for anyone who enjoys walking and or water activities.

Just spent one night on this peaceful site. Absolutely lovely. Good size pitch next to river. Good long walk on and around the site for the dog. Warden very friendly and down to earth.
Sat outside the pub on the riverside for a drink. Shame they don't let dogs inside. Will definitely return to this site.

Just come back from a 2 night stay here. Lovely little find for us. Lovely place all flat. The only thing that needs improvement is the toilet and shower facilities only 2 showers for the whole site. However we had such a fab time it won't stop us from going back. Owners were helpful and showed us to our pitch and gave information about local places to visit. We walked to the village through the corn fields (little adventure for the kids). There's a chinese/ pizza/ butchers/ bakers/co-op/pub in the village. Lots of other nice walks. Over the road is a great pub had a few beers by the river, we didn't eat there but plenty of people were eating, looked nice will try out next time we go.

A lovely site and good value at £15 a night inc EHU. The guys that took me to my pitch were brilliant and knowing it was my first time out with the van all rallied round to reverse it, drop the legs and even hook me up.
The campsite runs right along the River Idle which is lovely and picturesque. There are 3 pubs within walking distance but we didn't try and of them as it was a short trip. There isnt a playground but there is lots of space for kids to run around in and it seems a very dog friendly site. In the nearby village is a large CO-OP (with ATM, a lovely chinese takeaway and fish & chip shop.
The toilets and shower block are very clean and modern and we would definitely return again in the future.

Well where to start? What a truly excellent hideaway for overwintering. We stayed from Nov 2014 to the end of march 2015. Joe and his team have made some fantastic infrastructure improvements to the site, new hookups, roadways, hard standings, wi-fi (pay service) and a new shower block though not quite complete as we left it wasn't far off. Fishing and boating for those inclined on the canal. Met some really nice people there and would love to come back. I defy anyone to find fault with this gem of a site. Don't tell anyone about it though or they will all want to go :-) Once again a huge thanks for a very enjoyable stay. We will definitely be back. Mark & Jane

Friendly and funny owners - extremely helpful on the phone and when arriving/departing. Site is level and next to river with access for fishing and canoeing. No toilet / shower facilities so units should be self sufficient. Tranquil and spacious site, ideally located for lovely walks. Pub opposite campsite.

We have stayed at this site for several years and although the site itself offers no facilities it is beautifully situated by the River and opposite a brilliant pub and golf course - the Haxey Gate which offers good food, lovely patios to sit on with views of the river and you can hire canoes!
The Haxey Quays site also has a great dog walk up the river to West Stockwith where there is another equally good pub 'The White Swan' that brews its own beer'idle dog' and also serves great food.
There is a nice walk to the village of Misterton and the towns of Gainsborough, Lincoln and Retford are a short drive away and all very pleasant to visit.
The Warden is excellent so if you leave your caravan for the season you can be rest assured it will be safe. The Owner is equally friendly and staying on the site is just such a pleasure. Children and pets welcomed! We cannot recommend this one enough and we will be back again and again!

We've been visiting Haxey Quays for a few years now, both as ralliers, and as 'solo' campers.
To call it a 'basic' site would be something of an injustice - true, it has no toilet/shower facilities, nor any electric hook-ups, but it possesses abundant other virtues that, for us, are far more worthwhile.
It's not in the least bit regimented - pitch where you will (with due consideration for others, of course), and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
The owner will cycle around in the morning to collect the modest £7. 50 fee - and he won't raise any eyebrows (nor demand any extra payment) if you've got a large awning, or toilet tent, or an extra car, or a dog. Or any of the other things that prompt some site owners to produce a pocket calculator and begin tallying up the additional cost of your visit.
It's all wonderfully relaxed - but (importantly!) in *no* way anarchic. There *are* rules - they're just not shoved in your face, and all credit to the owner for trusting his visitors to behave in a civilised manner without the need for a plethora of signs informing you what you can and can't do.
Certainly, we've never seen rowdy behaviour there.
It is, in fact, the polar opposite of another riverside site, near Lincoln, that appears to be an attempt to recreate Hell upon earth
Haxey Quays is (mercifully!) *nothing* like that - which, I suppose, would completely rule it out for those who crave the excitement of wild shrieking at 2 am, or empty beer bottles thrown against their unit by drunken revellers
For those who prefer tranquillity, peace, safety, and an extremely pleasant surroundings shared with normal human beings, however, Haxey Quays is the place for you.

Over the last few years we have rallied on this site and have noticed lots of improvements to the site. The warden greets you at the gate.
This weekend we rallied with the Magnets and took 5 vans.
A few of our members went into Gainsborough shopping, had a meal at trent port or as we did went to The Ship at Newington for the best carvery.
From the site are very good walks, You can go by the canal to West Stockwith having a rest with a beer at the micro brewery.
Misterton village is not far away with a co-op, chinese, pizza place and a pub.
The site price is very reasonable £5 for ralliers or if you go on your own £7. 50. On Saturday afternoon we managed to sit outside our vans enjoying the peace and quiet.
Saturday evening the rain started all night but next morning we had no problems getting off the site.
We will definitely be going back this year.
