Stayed here over the Easter weekend only due to the site being open, after our original site cancelling our booking due to forecast weather.
It is expensive for what you get, & I'm not sure I'd pay this price to stay here again. I assume that the cost includes entertainment at the on site restaurant & bar, who had no entertainment at Easter.
On the plus side, the pitches are massive, its very close to the beach, & the local Spar & the chip shop next door were good. The weather was terrible when we got there & we wondered what state the pitches would be in, considering the roadways were flooded. The drainage on the pitches was superb though, & there was no problem whatsoever with the pitches themselves.
Toilets & showers were average, I've seen better, but defo seen worse, so I have no complaints with them.
They do have permanent residents on site, so there were some early movers, which didn't bother me.
There are a few pubs & restaurants within a 20 30 minute walk. We ventured passed the Spar & (whilst the tide was out) along the bay (?) to The Thatched House, which looked nice, but didn't go in (as we had my dog with me) ! Instead we headed into The Oyster House which is on the other side of the road. Great pub with a great atmosphere & very friendly staff.
If this site dropped their prices, I would go back, but I think that the price affects the positives of this site

Good points
Location, close to the beach and lovely walks. Good coffee at a van along the promenade!
Good well stocked local shop with fish and chip shop just around the corner to the site.
Showers hot.
Foxes running around the site in the evenings.
Bad points
Extremely expensive! We didn't think it was good value for money!
The site looked run down and tatty.
No one to show you to your site, so people were going round and round to find pitches.
I fail to see why someone using(and cleaning) their own van, should be charged £5 per night for each dog!
The campsite looked like a traveller site, with all the large red gas bottles and extra tents and awnings and washing lines!
The toilet block that I used was very dated, the hand driers didn't work all week, and the showers turned off after 5 seconds.
Local people walked around the site regularly, which didn't make the site seem very secure.
There seemed to be a lot of cars using the site in the evenings, just going round and round.
A van and a motorcycle parked near to us started up early in the mornings (residents going to work!)
We had visited this site last year, and found it quite basic, but adequate. I was reluctant to book at this price but was assured that improvements had been made (they had painted over the tiles in the toilet block and the paint was flaking!).
I don't think we will be using this site again unfortunately, unless the prices are radically reviewed or the facilities greatly improved (or maybe both!)
It's a pity, as this site has great potential, but we were very disappointed!

On a recent visit to this site I quickly realised that nothing had changed since my last visit in 2008 except increased site fees and the site was under new ownership. The staff said the fees had been increased to cover the costs of improvements. Be advised Dogs are charged at £5 per night as is an awning.
Toilet Block.
Building in need of refurbishment. Did not appear to have a daily clean. Waste disposals areas full to over flowing.
(Did notice tradesman staying on the site emptying their vans of rubbish)
Noise. Generally the site was quiet. There was movement of vehicles late and early mornings with people obviously going to work.
Was aware of one caravan with three dogs, owner left dogs alone whilst away from site.
Good Points
Site ideal for beach.
Well stocked local supermarket.
On bus route for Southsea and Portsmouth.
Great for walks along beach.
Would I stay at this site again probably YES, if the fees were lower and the place tidied up and it resemembled a camp site and not a residential trailer park.
The owners of this site have a real Gem lets just hope they can make it shine was again.

We have just spent a Saturday & Sunday here. We agree with all that others have put, i.E. Close to the beech, toilets & showers all ok, staff very helpful, but WOW keep away from the bar/eating area. The site seems to be situated adjacent to a large housing estate. Saturday evening the bar/eating area was full of what seemed liked local chavs. Entertainment was a poor disco & karaoke which was then followed by drunken behaviour & bullying towards guests.
Will we return here? Possibly but will keep away from the bar.

I am not going to add much else because nothing has changed from previous reviews, this site is in a good spot for Portsmouth, but that is about it, the youths adorn the beach at night and several stones were thrown onto the site hitting peoples vans and one ladies head! the police were called but as usual they are to busy! And one other thing to mention (and I am no prude) but the beach that you access from the site is a nudist beach and has been for over 60 years, this is no problem to me but could be embarrassing if you have young children with big mouths! There are regular bus services into Portsmouth and plenty to keep you busy, but the site could do with some updating, and as mentioned before they pack em in like sardines, so if your like your personal space go somewhere else. This site could be a little gem because of the location and it`s proximity to the beach!

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Staff were friendly and helpful. Shower blocks were clean, soap containers were empty and needed replenishing. Access to the site and shower blocks is via a swipe card, there was a problem with one of the shower blocks not scanning the card, the out of hours reception were helpful sorting out the problem rapidly. The ground is a bit gravelly but had no problems getting pegs in, the site overall was quiet and the meals in the bar were ok for the prices. The only problem is if you don't want to drive the public transport is woeful, Portsmouth must have one of the worst bus services in the country if not the worst, but that's not the camps fault. Very close to the beach, I was a bit dodgy about staying here but would not hesitate to book in again if and when I'm next in the area.

We have just spent 2 nights at Southsea and we basically went for the shopping in Portsmouth the outlet village is great loads of shops bars and restaurant's about a 10 min drive from the campsite. The site was once really nice but seems to have lost its shine. Grass and gravel pitches, take extra strong tent pegs as ground is rock hard the site is next to the beach just up a small slope and you are on it. Our problem with the site was our fellow campers who had no idea of boundaries and were walking under my bedroom window and we were having to call out mind your head! The children on site were playing very loudly from 7.30 in the morning their football hit our van lots before it actually flew in onto my bed at 7.45. The site cant be held responsible for them but we decided to go home a day early for a lie in !

Very well positioned - especially if you have children. Ferry to Hayling Island within walking distance. Lots to do in Portsmouth. The site itself can be a bit noisy. Seemed to have quite a few students staying which obviously created some noise in the late hours. Friendly enough staff. Card entrance (which was helpful - some sites we have been to lock their gates at 11pm). Toilets could do with more cleaning. Some with no toilet roll and hadnt even been flushed. Hardly any soap above sinks. Needs renovating. Clubhouse was dismal. Every night had the same thing. Quiz followed by bingo followed by music. If they had had just one hour entertainment for kiddies, it would have gone down a storm - and they would have sold lots more drinks! Playground area was quite good - had sandpit which was very good. Shops within walking distance but reception sells basics. 5 min car drive takes you to the big supermarkets and lots of other shops. Whatever you do, dont go to the local swimming pool! Only go there if you are an old age pensioner who wants to swim in total silence! A very good swimming pool is on the seafront towards Portsmouth.

This site is right next to the shingle beach. Unfortunately, the built-up area has encroached almost up to the site's perimeter on the other side, meaning that it is overlooked by townhouses. The camp shop has limited supplies but there is a convenience store five minutes' walk away. The site is very well placed for visits to Portsmouth and ferries to the Isle of Wight - just drive along the seafront and follow the signs. The bus stop is five minutes' walk away. The ground is very rocky and we had a lot of trouble getting our tent pegs in. They went down about two inches and that was it, so they had to go in at very acute angles, which meant that the tent almost fell down when the wind speed increased. The shop sells some very stout-looking tent pegs for rocky ground at about 89p EACH! The toilets and showers were clean - in part because they can be accessed only by swipe cards (which also operate the vehicle barriers). There are pub and eating-out facilities on site. I would return to this site (with my rock-boring gear) as it was OK and so close to everything we wanted to see and do.

An OK site - I won't be rushing back, but it was fine for it's proximity to Portsmouth. Because it is in a built up area and surrounded by fencing you do feel as though you are entering a refugee camp, however, the range facilities are very good. The toilets, although clean most of the time, felt as though they could do with updating and sprucing up - toilets seats hanging off etc. The showers have push taps, which normally is fine, but the one I experienced needed pressing every 8 seconds - yes I counted - it was infuriating me so much! The ground is incredibly hard. Fortunately for us - and the other people pitching a tent that night - we had a hammer which made it possible to drive the pegs in.
