This is our second visit to Lower Liston Farm CL. It is extremely quiet and the site is well off the road and easy to access with no narrow lanes to negotiate. We stayed for three weeks both times and found Graham and Andrea very friendly and helpful. The toilets and showers were immaculate as was the dog exercise field with the grass cut short.
There are plenty of National Trust properties in the area and many interesting places to visit. There are also lots of walks from the site.
We have been caravanning for over fifty years and this is the best CL we have ever stayed on.
We will certainly be visiting it again next year.

Again, a wonderful Cl, been before and would highly recommend members to go there. Thank you Graham for the chat on the way out this morning, the medical problem is being sorted. I'll be back. Bob and Margaret Webb.

What a great little site. £18pn with h/up. Long drive to the farm off the A350 about 5 miles north of Shaftesbury. Graham, the owner met us and helped us pitch on our site. He has done much work over the winter and the campsite was looking well cared for. There are 5 hard standing and 5 grass pitches, each with hook-up and a tap. The toilets and showers are basic but well kept and clean, even hand cream in the ladies. 2 toilets and 2 showers for each male and female. Bins and waste hidden behind a barn. There is an electronic gate to the site (ask for pass number), so feels very safe. Surrounded by meadows. We could not hear any road noise but there is a single track railway close by and short trains pass every 15 minutes during the day. We did not find this intrusive and thought of it like a clock chiming the quarter hour! Plenty of walks from the site and a visit to Gold Hill in Shaftesbury center is well worth a visit. The café at the top of the hill is very good. We also had lunch at Compton Abbas airfield which was excellant and great watching the small planes come and go on the grass runway. I only have one negative and that's the showers on 'timer' (about 15 secs). This is an adult site and hate being treated like a child who cannot turn off the water by myself!.
Would I go back. Of course, a brill site.

Whilst I agree with the reviews on Lower Liston Farm on the facilities being very clean and tidy I do have a few negative comments to add. Signage - the signage for this site are appalling - one little sign at ground level right at the entrance which you cannot see from the road. In the entrance there are railway sleepers surrounding an ornamental garden - please remove these they are un-necessary and block the entrance. They are not user friendly and indeed caused us to damage our caravan and car when we arrived. If these had not been in place then no damage would have occurred. The owners are very friendly but they need to address these problems and make the entrance visible and free from obstruction - our weekend was a very expensive one with the damage to car and caravan costing over £600.
We are caravan club members and did ask to be on a hardstanding pitch as advertised in the club handbook, but the owner did not have one free even though we had booked this so we were placed on a grass pitch. He did not know that there was not a hard standing available until he went to site us. Caravan site owners are in the hospitality business and must listen to their guests and re-act to their suggestions.

Management response: I am not one to interfere with reviews but the negative received below is not as they say. This couple had the same prior warning as everyone else without any problems. The entrance has room for two ways in and out, with an island to segregate each direction. KarenBB had missed the turning twice and on the third attempt tried to go in on the exit. They did not hit the island, but stopped in time to reverse only he couldn't reverse and backed into his own caravan with his car (jackknife). In the past we have had 45 foot artic lorries delivering to our farm with no problems. I am baffled with their review, and have noticed that KarenBB have given many CL's a negative. I have made a note if KarenBB should return, I will notify the police to put a road closed sign for them. |

Great site a little gem, owners are very nice people and very helpful. Think this is their first full season but they have provided a fabulous place to stay. Pitches are very well laid out with plenty of space between each pitch.
Facilities are good very very clean, two showers and two loos in the ladies, assume the chaps have the same. Hand cream and flowering plants a lovely extra.
Dogs are very well provided for with two excellent off lead areas and a bin for the poo! Rubbish and wash up area is well hidden so no looking at dustbins
This is an adult only site which is what we prefer but we did have two young boys on site as a result of a long standing booking which was a surprise as we had not been told they would be there, however to be fair the lads were very well behaved and did not cause any extra noise etc. Also I think it likely that the two teenagers in another party were in fact under 18 but it is hard to tell these days!
Altogether a great place to stay

We found this lovely site by accident and Graham was extremely welcoming and helpful. The site is very clean, tidy and well laid out with wonderful views of the surrounding fields and hills, plus useful washing up facility, chemical toilet emptying system and recycling area. The shower/toilet block is heated, which is a bonus and it was a treat to have hand lotions as well as lovely hand soap to use. Even a potted rose in the ladies' is a lovely touch. There was also care and thought taken for those of us with a dog. Beautiful walks and woods, where we saw a Roe deer bounding through the fields. We will definitely go back again!

I had read the reviews about this site and they are spot on in describing this idyllic location. The owners know what is required and have provided it and like to discuss with you how they can improve it. No need really, they have I think 10 firm grass pitches to choose from plus 1 hardstanding so even when there are 5 units on site you are not crowded. You are placed in a flat meadow with low hedges to the front giving lovely views of the hills in front of you. Behind are trees giving some shade. This is CL camping at it's best and reflected in the happiness of all the campers while we were there for 5 nights. Access is good off the A350 with only a easy farm drive to negotiate.

When we arrived at the site we were welcomed by site owner Graham who showed us to our pitch and gave us all the information about the site, the facilities and where to find the local pubs and shops.
The site is well drained and the grass is lovely, we decided not to use our awning carpet, it would have been a shame to cover the grass. The ground was perfect for pitching the awning, the pegs went in easily but firmly.
The toilet/shower block was immaculate with two showers per gender (excellent for a small site); the water was a good temperature and plentiful. PIR light on the toilet block a nice touch if you wish to visit after dark.
Water on pitch was also useful especially if you have the kit to use a mains water connection.
The rural location of the site is idyllic. There is a train line that runs adjacent but we did not find this intrusive at all. There are public footpaths running from the site and it is possible to walk in to Shaftesbury from there.
Throughout our stay Graham was always happy to help with local knowledge and made sure that everything was OK with the facilities etc.
We used the site as a base to visit various National Trust properties, gardens and walks, all of which were within easy reach.
If I was travelling in this direction again, Lower Liston would be my first choice for a caravan site. This is without doubt the best CL I have stayed on.

What a little gem of a site! We only booked last minute and were really pleased on arrival at this site. It was peaceful and the views were amazing. The facilities were brilliant. To be honest what made all of this site was the owners Graham and Andrea. Nothing was too much trouble. The livery is a brilliant asset if you like horses which we do. Their daughter, Hannah was lovely too. They obviously listen to what us caravanners like and they aim to please by providing it. They have a wealth of knowledge of the area and are looking at providing an information room. The weather helped too as it was glorious but it would not have mattered if it wasn't as the location would make up for it. Thank you for opening up your own home and grounds to share with us. Pete and Michelle Boland

This is a fantastic site, as previously mentioned Graham and Andrea are just the best owners, always time for a chat and helpful advice etc, in their absence on our arrival we were warmly met by their daughter Hanna. The pitches are really generous, toilet block is immaculate and the view is brilliant, basically it's a sheep farm with stabling and horse/rider training ring, lovely to hear and see the sheep grazing. We stayed for a week and I wish we could have stayed longer. Met two lovely couples who stayed over the same time and I think we all agreed how great the site was. Although this is a brand new site it feels like it's been established for years as they've done such a great job, no surprise really as they caravan themselves and Graham is a bit of a perfectionist, the site is all to grass though plans are already set for a hard road for next year. We'll definitely be back.
The grass is well maintained as is the whole camping area. There are 2 pubs within a short driving distance and you are only a 5 minute drive from Shaftesbury. The site itself is probably more suited to adults, trains can be heard as the railway line is right next to the farm but this is no great distraction.
