Our first trip in our caravan! We are locals so was using this as practice!

Upon arriving the site manage Malcolm was very patient in directing us to our pitch and backing us up. We took it slowly and it was nice of him to give us a pat on the back and say well done for taking it easy.

We have 2 small children so the lack of playground may have been a problem if the actual caravan novelty had worn off? Malcolm was very quick to point us to the closest play area to the site however!

The river dog walk was lovely, great views of the trains for train enthusiasts! As a local, it didn't feel like we were in Norwich!

There is a small shop, dishwashing facilities, laundry and toilet and shower block with 2 showers. All lovely and clean.

Even though this site is on our doorstep, I am sure we will be back!

We had 2 tents, 1 very big for brother and missus, 1 for us to sleep in. We were in the field by the river where no kids under 14 can go (what a blessing). You cannot take a car into this field so you have to use the trolley to move your stuff from the nearby allocated parking space and your pitch. You can hear the road at night, too noisy for me so ear plugs essential but I am a light sleeper. However the campsite was quiet otherwise. The facilities good unless you wanted a shower at the same time as everyone else, when all I got was a dribble of water.

Wardens are very helpful, but they are moving on later this year. Norwich is a fantastic city, well worth booking on the city tour at local tourist centre. It is easy enough to walk into city, takes about half hour. Every county has the tourist hellhole, my own county has Matlock Bath, Norfolk has Wroxham - do not go there, you will queue to get in, be frustrated whilst there and when you decide to leave in a hurry, you won't be able to.

We found a small site well packed in with range of tents campervans and caravans.A nice dog walk by river and fishing pegs for when season starts although not many. It was bank holiday weekend when we visited and the site was full. Only one toilet and shower block but that was reflected on the fact that the site was smaller than we had stayed at before and we managed to fit showers in. There was unfortunately a problem with hot water when we stayed and they were trying to fix and on 2nd night did close the showers and washing up area until water was hot again and said they haven't had this problem before so if anyone does find it please let them know as they were unaware of this problem until it happened on the 2nd night.

There is a train line near the site but didn't notice any noise to disturb us in fact there was more traffic noise at night and the cockerel and dawn chorus in the mornings that had most impact but that is all part of being outdoors and sleeping under canvas I suppose. The tree that we were near was a bit of a problem as it was spring and they were sappy but that was mostly on our car what we could wash and haven't seen any lasting affects on our tent although it wasn't directly under as was the car.

There is plenty to do around the area of Norwich and the broads just a few miles away. Whitlington country park was our first day then it rained so ventured into Norwich to shops and then after found different venues according to the weather. Wherever we went we were not far away from water and enjoyed our visit to the marshes at Strumpshaw fen nature reserve and river yare. We have teenage children so no playarea was not a problem. Shops and supermarkets were easy to find and plenty of eating out places.

We only intended to use the camp as a base to sleep and wash/toilet and were not surprised or disappointed with what we found as not needing any other facilities on site.

Smallish, flower-festooned and well-kept site on southern edge of Norwich. Tucked away nicely – some locals we talked to didn’t even know it was there. Small shop and lots of information at reception. Managers, Jo and Ron very helpful. Dog walks on site.

Easy to walk to Norwich. Lots to do there – Castle, museum, cathedral, shops. Lots of good, old fashioned pubs, try Adam and Eve next to cathedral. If staying late, taxi back less than £10.

Excellent cycling into Norfolk countryside, which is mainly off road if you go via Trowse and Whittingham Park; also try route to market town of Wymondnham or you can get to edge of Broads too.

We pitched on the separate meadow by the river – much more room and lush, soft grassy field (had it to ourselves!), but cars not allowed so you have to leave it in car park and lug gear. Well worth it though. Camp site has suitable trolley for lugging. No children under 12 allowed though because of river.

For take aways, there’s an excellent fish and chip shop and middling Chinese take-away reasonably near. For best nearest pub, recommend walk to City or – much nearer – Trowse where there are two reasonable ones – in our opinion avoid the pub next to campsite. Best pub for a range of well-kept real beer and friendly locals (if you have a cycle or car) is the Royal Oak in the village of Poringland to the south – there’s a chippie next door to it too.

On downside, only 2 showers each in mens/womens, but never a problem, though might be at weekend or school holidays maybe. Not a lot for children to do I suggest. Watch out for overhanging sycamores that tend to drip sap – not good for tent.

It can be a bit noisy – can hear A46, randy cockerel in nearby smallholding and railway. However biggest racket is the dawn chorus that in May starts up about 3.30am and down by the river you get all the usual suspects plus Reed, Sedge, Grasshopper and Garden Warblers – idyllic for us, but could be a nuisance for others I guess - depends on your viewpoint.

Would definitely go again.

Was made to feel very welcome when we arrived. The site is nicely laid out. The shop is well stocked with the usual bits and pieces.

Clean showers and toilets (there were only 2 showers in each block and 1 of those 2 is very small). Clean washing up area with 3 sinks.

There isn't a play area for the children, and they are unable to go onto the backpackers field if they are under 12, as it has the river running by, but they can be accompanied by an adult to have a lovely walk by the river.

There was no noise from traffic, but found that the geese that are kept next to the site make the usual bird noises early in the mornings. Also to be aware that the train line runs both sides of the site, but this is not enough to put me off from returning to this site again.

Just spent a few days at this site and we found it absolutely wonderful. The site is nicely laid out with very clean facilities. The wardens are extremely friendly and helpful and provide a very good library of information.

It is so convenient for Norwich, we cycled in circa 15 mins. There is a railway line passing the site but the noise was not intrusive. There is a pub just at the top of the road and a local shop (and chip shop) just a few minutes away. Sainsburys about 10 minutes away.

What a lovely site. Small and 'homely'. Although on the outskirts of Norwich we felt as though we were in the country. Yes, the cockerel has the odd crow but hey that's nature.

Not only did we have a warm welcome from Jo and Ron we also had a visit from a duck and her 3 babies!

Following on from the last review we were very happy not to have any children on site, especially as there really is nothing for them to do.

I don't think anyone has given any details about the walk into Norwich. It takes about 25 mins and most of it is via a disused railway line now made into a path. At the end of the path (20 mins) you come across a big Sainsburys. A few more minutes and you are in the 'modern' part of Norwich. My advice is to keep walking until you get to the lovely old part. Make sure you find time to walk along the river and look at 'Cows Tower', 400 years old!

Just back from a bank holiday weekend at this site and I can't praise it enough! Having got heartily sick of the Manchester weather we decided to try and get a last minute break away in the east where it looked like the weekend would at least be dry. I think the rest of the country had the same idea - we rang so may sites in Norfolk and Suffolk on Friday morning looking for a pitch, but all were booked up. Jo the manager at this Camping and Caravan Club site, however, was good enough to take my number and called me back Friday afternoon to say that she had had a cancellation and could squeeze us in - checking the dimensions of our tent first, to make sure we'd be OK. It was mid afternoon Friday by then so too late for that night, but we booked for the two nights and drove 210 miles in search of a chance to sit outside, and happily we found it!

Jo and Ron, the other site manager, could not have been more helpful. The site is quite small, two main fields and a 'back packers field' which can't be accessed by cars. The whole site is immaculately maintained, toilets and showers always clean, loads of hot water in the showers, hairdryer for 20p, good indoor washing up area and laundry, and a nice reception shop selling fresh eggs, ice cream and other bits and bobs. I can't praise the managers enough - they were always around checking everything was OK and struck a great balance between making sure that the site rules were complied with, whilst being easy going and relaxed, and good natured at all times.

Our only observation for would be visitors to this site is that this is not really a great site for younger children as there is no real playing area. Obviously we were there bank holiday weekend so it was full anyway, but there aren't any designated playing areas, and although there were kids on the site and they did play out, it wasn't ideal and there certainly wasn't anywhere you could really play ball games - although I suppose maybe you could play on the back packers field when it isn't so busy.

All in all though a great little site and one to be recommended for couples and families with older children.

We stayed here over a weekend for 2 nights whilst visiting relatives at Whitlingham Hall. It was very close and we tried to walk there on the Saturday morning but due to 3 small children were not able to and had to turn back to get the car.
The campsite was very friendly and quiet. It had a nice mixture of people and everyone was well behaved. Our only criticism was that both male and female shower / toilet blocks were shut from 10.30 am - 12 every day at the same time.

Apart from that, very convenient and pleasant.

This was a lovely little site and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The welcome was good and we had a wide choice of pitches. The nearby railway line never proved intrusive - they seemed to be very quiet trains, which did not disrupt conversation. I quite enjoyed seeing all the people rushing off to work or wherever, while all I had to do was sit there and enjoy my book and my cup of coffee.

In fact the only noise was a visiting group of Egyptian geese, which woke us about 6.00 one morning, but I doubt if this happens on a regular basis. Otherwise, wildlife on site was entertaining, rather than disruptive.

The amenity blocks were housed in fairly old buildings, but were beautifully maintained and the paintings displayed on the walls provided a really nice touch.

We would certainly return!
