We too have been coming back to Valley of the Rocks for many years as it's a stunning location and the owners are friendly and helpful. I would not describe the toilet and shower blocks as grotty, they have always been cleaned regularly when we have been there but they ARE basic. Surely you expect that when camping? The site is big enough that you should be able to camp well away from the pub if the noise bothers you but we have stayed inn all the locations from the bottom field (in a caravan) to the furthest corner, at all times of year, and never really had any problems with noise.

We too were very let down by this site. It was good for the kids as they could climb on the rocks, but the toilet blocks were a disgrace, no locks on the cubicle doors, unclean and very grotty! My wife wouldn't even shower in them, so we had to cut the trip short.

We came here last week but we immediatly left as we were horrified by the awful toilets and showers. This would have otherwise been a brilliant site as the setting is beautiful, and there is a pub next door. I will be keeping my eye on the site and keep my fingers crossed that they build some new loos and showers!

August 2005 Was v. unimpressed with this site, so much so that we asked for our money back and left after just one night.
Filthy shower blocks, no hot water for washing-up, dogs roaming loose around the site (lots of mess), loud music blasting from car stereos late and night and all through the daytime, grotty pub disgorging loud drunks at midnight...
To be fair, this site might be OK for big groups, or large families on a budget, but for anyone seeking peace & quiet with nice facilities you'll want to give this place a miss.
A real shame, as the area is lovely, but we found Valley of the Rocks grubby and unpleasant.
We'll not be back.

August 2004 The layout of the camp is excellent. 18 of us (5 tents) turned up on Bank Holiday Saturday and we were all pitched together. The pub next door serves draught beer and food. It has a pool room and TVs. The on-site shop mainly stocks sweets! The only downside to the camp were the toilet and shower facilities - they were pretty minging! All in all though, a good weekend was had by all 18 and we would definitely go back!

July 2003 This site is very good for children but if you haven't got any it can get a bit hectic and noisy at the weekend or holidays. We went on a very sunny and busy long weekend. Every bit of grass had a tent on it. someone even tried to pitch in our car space when we went out for the day. The bar is small but has a good atmosphere. Owners were very friendly and the site has a very relaxed atmosphere. Down side are the toilets/showers, they are small, miles away and were never clean.

August 2002 Our first camping trip ever. After reading review on Valley of the Rocks we decided this was the one for us and our three children. We were amazed at the site layout in a word 'excellent'. The pitch we chose was great, secluded enough for us to set up our own little camp but close enough for late night torch lit trips to the loo without accidents. Owners were extremely friendly, but what made the weekend for us was the music festival, totally unexpected but a perfect evenings entertainment (along with a few bottles of lager). We would recommend this site to anyone with children as the beach is also fantastic, ours played for hours on the sand. We will definately be back and will make sure it is the same weekend as the music fest' again.

July 2003 Well folks we took a chance and visited the site after reading the reviews ,we were more than pleased with what we found .The site layout is great with all the fields joined by tracks and pathways ,we had our own private field ! , the site bar was excellent too with pool tables and bar food available till late also Stella on draught to help you sleep on an airbed !,we even experienced the karaoke on Saturday night - if you closed your eyes one bloke sounded nothing like Elvis !!!.
Looking forward to our next visit .
Ps. Learn to whistle loud before visiting the gents toilets - no locks on the doors .

May 2002 This was our second visit - first one was fine. You have to be prepared for a bit of noise when young groups show up. What made the second stay really unpleasant was the total lack of support from the campsite managers, when heavy rain made the tracks impassable except for 4WDs. Some had to tow other cars out. Path to water tap and other facilities became a slippery mud bath. Cars skidding all over the place, dangerously close to tents and kids. Owners refused to open the gate that would allow cars out on a flat surfaced road, because this would mean driving alongside the static homes! A camper revolt let us get out by this route, fortunately. The attitude of the staff was so lacking in care that we will never return!
