Follow the site directions carefully and you will find the site, sat nav would take you you down some unsuitable roads. The site is located well into the forest and gives some great opportunity to appreciate the stars at night and the sounds of the wildlife. The wardens are very friendly and approachable which makes this a site with a good welcome.
Pitch
The site is open plan and contains some good size hardstandings and many grass pitches. Some of the grass pitches were a little packed in for my liking(obviously the mandatory distance apart - this is a CC site after all!). We chose a well presented hardstanding, and as expected you cant really fault the quality of Caravan Club sites. Phone signal for O2 and 3 was fine and we didn't have a problem finding a TV signal.
Ablutions
There are 12 self contained cubicles (toilet, shower and sink) accessed via a key lock which has its pros and cons. Generally it was a good idea so you could share/help your kids with enough space and privacy. However first thing in the morning they were often all busy with people showering etc - not so good if you only required the toilet. They were not the newest but were freshly painted, warm and well maintained - so I would say that they do what's required nicely.
General Site
We were there over the early May bank holiday so the site did get quite busy, but again this did not cause any issues. The site does not have a children's play area, or anywhere on site where ball games are allowed. The common outside the main gate could be used for this but there is quite a lot of animal droppings (they do roam the forest after all!) so this is not ideal. I would suggest that for this reason kids have nowhere to meet or hang out and make new friends so this is best for only short visits if you have kids that like to mingle with their own peers. There is ample space outside for dog walks.
Location
Situated right in the forest makes it ideal for long dog walks and a nice stream/river for the mutt to splash around. Cycling is also well catered for throughout the forest. You can cycle into Brokenhurst in about 20 minutes, although some of it is on the road, but the road is not that busy so it is OK for competent cyclists. There are some small shops and convenience stores (including a small Tesco) if you need to top up your supplies.
Summary
This is a great site for a short visit to the forest and gives you the chance to get up close to the wildlife (horses, cattle, deer, owls, birds etc) if you are patient and quiet. The dog loved it and the kids thought it was great for a long weekend but if the weather was not so good I think they would have lost interest a bit. The roads in and out of the New Forest are very busy on weekends when the sun shines so it can be a challenge using your car to visit anywhere.

Our first visit to this site and we really liked it. Lovely position right in the forest, large hard standing pitches. Good facilities with separate shower, sink & loo!
Friendly and helpful wardens. Good mobile phone signal (O2 & 3Mobile), TV signal patchy!
Excellent site for dogs, straight out the gate and a huge forest dog walk!
Only negative for us - no pub within walking distance for the evenings!
Definitely a site to return to.

Lovely site in a wonderful setting, large open common just outside the gate has to be the best dog walk ever with a stream in the trees for a dip.
The showers/toilets were unusual for a CC site but have been re-decorated and were clean and all worked very well, there were some queuing in the mornings but after tea they were empty and found it much better to have lots of room.
The wardens were friendly and did their usual good job, a fish and chip van was on site a couple of times in the week and was quite popular.
Good places we found to visit were Hythe to watch the liners over in Southampton, Beaulieu for the museum although a little expensive and we had a trip to Poole harbour on a wet and windy day that dried up in time for a walk around the quayside shops, it was so bad that night some boats we saw were damaged in the storm.
Downsides we found were there are speed bumps on the last part of the approach to the site and are not good towing a caravan and in our opinion are not needed, there is a 5mph limit on site which is totally ignored by the children and as there is quite a slope on either side of the site they were travelling far too fast on the down side which we were at the bottom of and we subsequently had to pick up quite a few injured children on bikes and skateboards who had lost control. The wardens seemed powerless to stop this even though we were all told about the limit and about a child killed on a CC site previously.
We had some fairly heavy rain and as we were at the bottom of the slope even though we were on a hard standing our awning was flooded and the people behind us on the grass had to leave early with all the contents of their awning soaked, more drainage required.
The road system in the New Forest cannot cope with holiday traffic and a couple of small by- pass roads would make things much easier especially around Lyndhurst which we did not visit because of the queues on all the roads in and out.
Would we go back? YES

We love visiting this site as it is so peaceful and you can hear the owls calling all night at this time of year. Lots to do especially if you like walking or cycling. I think a previous reviewer must have stayed on the Caravan and Camping club site at Aldridge Hill as there are no tents on this site. I was surprised how shabby the service block has become, the wardens keep them very clean but they do need a revamp, the ensuite shower rooms are very popular and get a lot of use. Although we stayed here in November apart from the grass pitches not being in use all the hard standings were fully booked and we were glad we reserved months in advance. Popular with dog owners but some seem to be reluctant to clear up on the area adjacent to the site where children also play. Our batteries are fully charged after this quiet interlude.

Just come back from a very enjoyable stay at this site. I was disappointed at how pitches were squeezed in at the back of the hardstanding pitches, right next to the fence. It did not give them much space at all and they were right at the back of you. The area is lovely and great for lots of walking and cycling as you are right in the New Forest. The train station is near by in Brockenhurst if you want to take a trip to a seaside resort. The shower facilities were good but queues in the morning could have been avoided, if the toilets were separate as they are at most other sites. They were more geared up for families. Considering how full the site was I was impressed at how peaceful it was.

This is a lovely site-nice and quiet with stunning views of the forest. We had ponies around the tent which was lovely and in the mornings, if you were up early enough, you could see lots of deer roaming around. There was a stream that children could play in and lots of space to ride a bike on site or many walks/cycle paths close by. There are no designated pitches so you can spread out and just hope you don't get someone pitch up too close! This site is perfect for walking/cycling but obviously no facilities means you have to have your own.

Another return visit to Black Knowl for us. We love the site and its position within the New Forest. It's always so peaceful (even when they're full - which is most of the time!) and friendly.
Toilet/shower block has individual shower rooms (sink/toilet/shower) - yes OK, they do need updating but they were always clean. There is also another shower 'block' - 3 showers in each ladies and gents and separate toilets.
Small shop with essentials in reception and daily newspapers can be ordered each day for collection. Booking in can be an ordeal especially if you turn up at 12 noon or shortly afterwards, but the wardens were always friendly and cheerful!
Hardstanding (decent sized pitches) and grass both available. We were lucky enough to get a hardstanding in the cul-de-sac by the shower block, nice position!
The walking/biking from the site is what makes it for us. Fantastic. As much off-road as you want with just ponies, donkies and cattle for traffic! 20/30 min walk into Brockenhurst (or 10 mins on the bike!) - doggie friendly pub (The Forresters) and tearooms (The Butterfly - outside seating) - both lovely.
All sorts of shops in Brockenhurst - including a Tesco Express, butchers, bakers, and many takeaways. We also had a meal at the Forest Park Hotel (on the Rhinefield Road) which was also doggie friendly. Food was good (not cheap) but the bar was run by some strange people!
Already planning another stay next year IF we can book early enough and get lucky with a pitch.

Managed to squeeze in this site by ringing the warden direct as CC website said it was full for four months! Managed to get in for 2 nights mid week out of school holidays.
Arrived about 2pm on a Tuesday to a packed site. Site is in a lovely location right in the middle of the forest, no road noise whatsoever so idyllic for lovers of peace & quiet.
We were disappointed with the layout of the site - seeing as it was in the middle of the forest you would think some thought would have been put into how you pitch/your outlook on this park but every inch of green space was taken by a pitch (which I hate!) I much prefer to have a bit of space and green/planting around units and some open ground but alas - it looks as though squeeze as many spaces in as you can on this site.
Even though it had been raining for the past couple of days we only had choice of grass pitches, which were ok but not perfect (bit squelchy underfoot).
The major downfall of this site are the showers/loos - I was actually gobsmacked when I saw how old they were. Yes, they were clean and just about functional but this is not what I expected of a CC site.
Everywhere from the individual shower rooms to the communal areas are very tired. My individual bathroom shower was covered in limescale and was not inviting at all. The loo required 2 goes at the flush to flush anything away and the hairdryer is in amongst the communal toilets rather than in with the showers.
Part of the block was closed off whilst we were there due to flooding and my husband's time in the shower was cut short due to the mens shower block temporarily running out of water.
To sum up -
Positives:
Beautiful location Quiet, peaceful, no road noise Direct forest access Perfect site for dog owners Yummy chip van calls on a Tuesday Plenty to explore by car journey - within the forest or coastal
Negatives:
Shower block awful Too many units crammed in for our liking Not enough hardstanding pitches Atmosphere - never seemed as friendly as other sites we have visited
We would only return to this site if major revamp work was carried out to the shower block and considering how busy the site was I am very surprised that the CC have not re-invested into this park as it's location is second to none.

We attended Black Knowl for a few days in early May. A really well looked after campsite with friendly approachable staff. The washing block was immaculately clean, very warm with unlimited hot water. The block was very unique and spacious, ideal for those with smaller children who need a shower without being in the way of other campers. The campsite pitches were level and on our arrival there was a good choice of spaces available. The campsite is right in the centre of the New Forest, as you leave the site you cross the cattle grid and come across wild horses, donkeys and highland cows. During the early evening we saw deer on the other side of the fence to our caravan, it was simply fantastic.
The only negatives are that the approach road is very narrow. We arrived later in the afternoon so we fortunately did not meet any oncoming caravans. Passing would have been almost impossible. In addition the speed humps are unbelievably high and our caravan 'bottomed out' on most of them. Judging by the marks on the speed humps it would appear that we weren't the only ones who experienced this.
This aside we will definitely be returning to this gem of a site with our walking boots and bicycles to make use of the numerous paths and trails on the doorstep.

Visited this site for the first time early october & had a really great time with good weather too. We found the site very quiet as only the hardstandings are in use this time of year. Excellent location for all the new forest. Walks direct from the site ( we did several )only 25 min to walk to brockenhurst itself.
Cycle tracks everywhere, a very relaxing time of year with no crowds. The annual red deer rut was a great sight & you can hear them bellowing early morning from the site.
We visited brownsea island in poole harbour, a great place to see red squirrels, the lovely exbury gardens & we love the sea front at milford & mudeford.
Can recommend a meal at the rose & crown in the village & a lovely pub at bank called the oak.
If you like the great outdoors this is a marvellous site & area & i can see why it is almost always full.
