A well laid out site and being adult only was very quiet, we stayed in the Millrace section with a nice view of the river. The payment envelope system is quick and convenient and while the toilet and shower are both in garden sheds, they are both warm and cosy. We only saw the owner to wave to, but had no need for any other contact. The gateway into the site is tight so make sure you line up for it. Wifi is cheap and reliable with 4 channels. Two pubs nearby, but probably driving rather than walking distance, there are also 2 village shops, not sure why there is a 7 night stay rule for bank hols, by Easter Monday most vans had gone, still it was cheap enough to pay for 7 nights and go when you wanted. Happy to recommend this site and we would return.

A well laid out site and adjacent CL with a river running through which gives lovely outlook in good weather, but worrying in heavy rains.
This would be a good site if your caravan had full toilet and shower facilities, but as a previous review states, the toilet and shower facilities are basic to say the least, ie both housed in 6ftx4ft garden sheds. Cleanliness levels are obviously in the eye of the beholder.

This is a perfect choice for visiting the Northern Lakes, the site is nicely tucked away and is exceptionally well maintained, the owner is very laid back and friendly, and has obviously spent a of of time and money making this site what it is today - all services are high quality, and location is great for Carlisle, Penrith, even the Scottish Borders - if you want to stay in the Northern Lakes look no further!
We stayed for 5 nights and enjoyed perfect weather, towing is easy, and the shower and toilet facilities need to be seen to believed!
All Pitches have Electric hook up, and all seem fairly level.
The site is split into the Cl area, and the Millrace which is open to all - we will definitely return

Stayed there for 4 nights and what a lovely site it is! Its adult only site. Had lovely views of all woods, was right on the river, and mountains in the distance.
Had great tv freeview reception, no phone signal but had brill wifi for only £1 per 24 hrs so could keep in touch with family that way. Was only £14 per night and such a bargain!
The camp itself was so picturesque, it had picnic benches set around and if you are lucky you can spot red squirrels. Only 15 miles to Keswick and around the same to Penrith.
The owners were really nice and all the campers were really friendly too. They were done out shed's for the loo's & the shower's but was done so nice, it was like walking into a little tardis!
The only reason I am giving 9/10 and not 10/10 is there is a pub 2 miles away but is on a long road with no lights so would not risk walking it on a night. We Would really really recommend this site and we definitely intend to return next year!

We have just returned from a three night stay, 22nd to 24th of July 2011 at this fabulous little site. Facilities are as it says, 'unique' and immaculate. We stayed on Millrace Park on the first pitch which was ideal for our motorhome with easy access to water via our hose for our water tank. The site is by the rivers edge as the name might imply! It is very tranquil and relaxing. We had a wonderful break in a lovely area which was new to us with lovely little local villages. Thanks John and Dawn, we hope to be back very soon!

Having just arrived from a 7 night stay at Riverside on the Millrace part of the site we have thoroughly enjoyed the stay. However the facilities on site were basic.
The site itself is in a stunning location with red squirrels visiting the site each day and Riverside views from most pitches. The road on site made for a tight squeeze for us when manoeuvring the van around (and we have a mover at that). The site itself is well worth a stay, being Adult only there is perfect peace & quiet with just the running water of the river - lovely.
Within 3 miles of the site there are 2 villages each with a pub each. Heskett Newmarkets Old Crown is a small brewery pub serving their own brewed beers and serving food. Caldbeck's Oddfellows Arms serves superb food with a good selection of Jennings beers and gives a very warm welcome. The fells offer stunning views.
There is a pay envelope in the loo which has a list of all the prices you need to pay. The couple who own the site are extremely helpful and keep the site fairly tidy.
So my opinion is that if you like stunning location, peace and quiet and are not too fussy on what the loo and shower are like then this site could be for you.

Third visit this year, no kids, no noise, adequate facilities kept spotless by owners, great for exploring the North Lakes and not to far from the tourist spots. Easy payment system when you arrive, select a pitch get organised, put the kettle on, pop your payment in the envelope, no waiting. If you are looking for a small site that offers all of the above plus friendly owners this is the place. Good eating places nearby at Hesket New Market and Caldbeck.Easy to find from the M6 motorway, John's sandwich boards at the various road junctions ensure you wont get lost

It is a very friendly site, good size pitches, and everyone getting on although it is split into 2 defined areas, one for CC Certified Location and one for anybody not in the CC. Both parts have the same facilities (basic).
The toilet and showers I will explain in detail, the toilet is a wooden shed with 1 toilet bowl for male and female, with a sink, a few books on a shelf and the envelopes for your payment which you fill in and post in the box outside the loo. The shower is another wooden hut exactly the same as the toilet one but without the sink, I must say these facilities are spotlessly clean and warm.
There is a small dog walking area within the site and a public footpath immediately outside for the more energetic dog.
The area is in a perfect location for lakes and two of the best pubs I have visited recently both the oddfellows and the old crown serve good food reasonably priced with very friendly service indeed.

Fabulous site - very quiet and tranquil. Lots of space between pitches, we stayed on Millrace and a lovely view down to the river.
One toilet and one shower on each of the small sites. Both are in what are in fact garden sheds - but don't let that put you off. Absolutely spotless and kitted out very well and homely.
The owners sell frozen chilli and lasagne and although we didn't purchase night be good as no pub or shop close by.
Some nice walked near the site - not too strenuous. The village of Hesketh Market is picture postcard pretty - pub and its own brewery.
Overall a lovely site and we would stay again.

We have read the other reviews and are in agreement over the state of the facilities on this park. 1 unisex toilet and 1 shower between 11 pitches. Campsite is very pleasant with good sized standings and good value for money. Did not see owners at all as they were away during our stay Would not hesitate to return if new sanitation block was built. They also have a small dog walk by the river but really not big enough to exercise your dog.
