I can't believe I liked this site and would recommend it to anyone. The showers weren't the cleanest (also bear in mind only 1 shower for the men and 1 shower for the ladies, same as the toilet. The toilet wasn't cleaned out in the whole week we were there, luckily it was very quiet. The pitches are quite uneven but the views are brilliant. The staff are pleasant although not there very often. Strait he's is a lovely little village 5 minutes walk down a steep bank where you will find a couple of nice dog friendly pubs. Just make sure you're ready for the steep climb back up to the site! Also along the street from the site there is a Fish Shop, the best fish & chips ever. Also site prices are reasonable.

Stayed recently, ideal location for Staithes & Whitby. The facilities although dated were clean but very basic. Never met the owner but the staff we did see were friendly.

The price to camp is way too high given its £6. 50 per person per night and not a great deal is provided, the shower block we used had 1 toilet and 1 shower for men and the same for ladies but there was no heating. The ladies shower area had no door. The showers were hot but there was very little room and in cold weather getting dressed afterwards was a race against time to keep warm as the building was freezing. There was no facility for drying hair by way of a power supply for your own hairdryer or a coin operated machine.

Excellent site, good old fashioned camping. No camp commandant just nice and friendly staff.

Toilets basic but adequate, shower was small and the curtain stuck to my body, but hey this is camping. O2 users, who get a bad signal, try standing at the breakwater on the beach. I was running around like a headless chicken try to reach our granddaughter to hear of her A level results. Lovely walk to the beach, by taking the path from the site. Much prettier and easier than the main road. We will definitely return to this site.

I almost don't want to post a good review for this site because we thought it wad just perfect and don't want to share it in case we can't get a booking when we want to! We stayed over the Jubilee weekend so it was busy as you can imagine but the owners were so helpful and friendly, especially Vanessa. The facilities are what some might call 'basic' but were clean and there was always toilet paper in the loos which I class as a 'result' at any campsite I stay at! There's a pub nearby with lovely views over the countryside and down to the sea, and a couple more in the unspoilt village down the hill. We walked along the Cleveland Way to Sandsend from the campsite, a wonderful day's walking and a bus back to Staithes - perfect! The fish and chip shop is to be recommended, where we found Vanessa wearing her 'chippie' hat ( a bit like the Tommy Cooper sketch for those old enough to remember!) - lovely fish, typical light Yorkshire batter and all freshly cooked to perfection. We can't wait to go back, we didn't have enough time to explore the village itself, and want to walk up to Saltburn this time. Wonderful place. Just don't tell everybody!

If you want 'glamping', this site is not for you. However if you want a good site that`s not over priced, with stunning views and are not afraid of walking, then this right up your street. Yes the site is a little 'frayed around the edges' but the owners and manageress more than make up for the shortfalls.

The toilets blocks are in wooden huts, a bit tired but were always clean, the showers are always hot(if you remember to pull the electric cord before entering them, something I had forgot)

The pitches are not flat, on a slight slope, plenty of EHU`s or non if you prefer.

There is a small playground just outside the site with a pub/hotel next to it and there are more pubs down the hill in staithes itself.

There is a post office back down the lane and a little further a co-op which is on the main road to Whitby.

The sea front at Staithes is very picturesque and there is also a good pub called the Cod and Lobster where you can sit outside and have lovely seaviews, (£5-20 for a pint and a a half of beer and 2 cokes, very reasonable)

I spent part of my holiday trying to get some replacement gas for my camp cooker(camping gaz)i had tried up and down the coast all day, even went as far as scarborough, but to no avail. I then came across Geoff(the owner)told him of my plight and he said 'leave it with me i`ll sort you out with something', not 10 minutes later he returned with a full gas bottle of calor gas and connection and it was just a case of connecting my rubber tubing to the calor bottle, and he wouldn`t take any money off me for his trouble or let me replace it, what a a star.

So in finishing it is definitely a place I shall be returning to, even though it is almost a four hour drive away.

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 day stay at this site, we had no trouble finding it using the satnav, even though it did not recognise the address, we entered 81 Staithes lane and it got us there no bother.

We had to cross a public car park to the gates of the site but even when the car park is busy it was not a problem.

Vanessa who is running the site is a lovely person, nothing was to much trouble for her.

We were allowed to park wherever we wanted not an allocated pitch which was fantastic as the site was not busy when we arrived.

The site itself is an old world war 1 army camp, but the facilities were clean and adequate, plenty of hot water, loo roll's etc.

The toilet and shower blocks are closed but the hut's were open for our use, this is an advantage as there is plenty of hut's and the site got busy over the Jubilee weekend.

Situated on the top of a cliff the views out to sea are breathtaking, surrounded by farm land with all the usual countryside noises it really is a peaceful place to relax.

The site itself is not large, and its all grass which had just been cut and the grass clippings are not collected, we just took our shoes off before we went in the caravan, the site is sloping but everything in this area is, there was plenty of tent's pitched and they did not seem to find it a problem.

The walk down to the harbour is lovely, little winding street with quaint little cottages everything you would expect from an un-spoilt old fishing village, the walk back up is not for anyone with back or knee problems or the faint hearted as it is a steep climb, but there is stopping places with seats if you need a rest or just want to enjoy the views.

There is a tea room close to the site, take away's, chip shop, Captain Cook public house and the co-op for groceries all in walking distance.

What you wont get here is a phone signal, we are on O2 and vodafone other people we noticed were also trying to find a signal, this did not bother us as it added to the peace and quiet.

This is an ideal location if you want to visit Whitby, Scarborough, or even Bridlington or the surrounding areas, or love walking the moor's but do not want the noise that goes with them.

We will definitely return to this site again in the future, a truly enjoyable stay.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend here, we found it easily enough using previous reviewers directions. There was plenty of room on the camping field and we chose our own pitch with EHU. The normal toilet and showers were closed so we had the use of one of the huts facilities which were clean and very close to the tent area. Although there is no children's playpark on the site there is a public one a few seconds walk away and there is ample room for ball games without disturbing other campers. The views are lovely on the site itself and they get even better if you take the path down to the harbour. As soon as we arrived we realised what a peaceful and tranquil spot we had found and vowed to come again and again. There are shops, pubs and takeaways in walking distance if those are needed, we used the chippy which was lovely and we had a drink down in the Cod & Lobster or rather outside at the waters edge. Prices are reasonable, £6. 50 per adult, kids half price and £2 a night for electricity, dogs are free and welcome. We can highly recommend this site to anyone looking for peace, quiet and beautiful surroundings.

Brilliant place. It had everything we wanted. The owners were friendly, helpful and welcoming. I had sent them a few emails confirming various details and they replied back very promptly. The site was very quiet and there were no other tents around. It was perfect.

The directions given took us to right place, but we didn't see the sign for the site straight away. We had to look for it, although not for long. If you stop at the top of the hill, the road leading to the site is just behind you on the right. It's also the sign for the car park.

Also as you go up that road there is a sign which says no parking beyond this point, this is just the boundary for the car park. The site is past that sign.

Staithes itself also had everything we needed. Several excellent pubs, which also served good food. Both the camp site and the village offered fantastic views.

If you want a nice quiet holiday, this place is perfect. We will be coming back here again.

Starting with the positives, this site is in a lovely location; sea views, a lovely walk down to the village and access to the Cleveland Way. I received an extremely friendly and helpful welcome from a family who were looking after the site while the owners were away.

The negatives were quite significant. The place is extremely run down which does ruin the ambience to some extent. Rubbish bins were overflowing with black bags dumped all around them. The owner's description on this website says that the facilities are 'basic but clean'. I disagree with this. One toilet was out of order, at least two of those 'in order' leaked when flushed so the floor was always wet. One had a broken seat. Presumably some of them didn't flush very well. Either that or there were people staying there who didn't flush at all (?). However, the toilets were well stocked with loo roll. I didn't use the showers but they were very small cubicles with curtains only, I couldn't see anywhere private to dress/undress/leave clothes etc.

The grass was in need of cutting and old grass cuttings suggested that when they do cut the grass they don't collect the cuttings.

Chemical/waste emptying facilities were in line with what one would expect on a £4/night CL.

This site is very overpriced given that it is essentially in a state of disrepair. At half the price I would happily stay here again as I have my own facilities in the caravan.

Arrived on a wet evening, windy not good for setting up! Got a hookup from manageress. site on a slight slope but views great!

Showers and toilets in a separate block. Clean to start with but children playing around and in gents climbing on seats etc! No one looking after them. Rules are rules I say!

Lovely new bed and breakfast rooms might consider staying in there next time. Owners said they are closing outside shower and toilet block and having all inside facilities, should be good!

Will come back as we like the site and the area.
