Stayed at Trig Point 49 for one night in August as a little mini-break without the kids with my partner and two of our friends. As we didn't have the kids with us, we weren't too concerned about facilities and thought for £5. 50 per adult per night was cheap enough.

Upon arrival we struggled to find the site. It's behind what seems to be a large car park for residents/permit holders? There was a large, rather scruffy 'Trig Point 49' with an arrow that wasn't easily spotted but we did get there in the end. We couldn't find anyone to check us in and had to search around the huts but eventually found a lady who directed us to the pitches. The tent field is a small-ish area behind the huts and is rather sloped but this didn't pose any problems.

The toilets were in one of the hut style buildings, with a separate room for sinks/mirrors and a separate room for showers. They were very creepy and weren't very nice. Two of the toilets were out of order when we were there. However, even though the rooms themselves weren't very nice the toilets did seem clean and the toilet paper was fully stocked.

There is a playground back out of the site which seemed good and it did strike us that we would be happy to bring the kids to the site for a night or two. There was a pub/inn just near this also but struck us as a 'local for locals' kind of place. The nearest shop was a Co-Op which was a good walk away, but we enjoyed it in the fresh air.

We also discovered a lovely little trail leading out of the back of the site and down to Staithes giving breathtaking views of the sea and stunning village. We really enjoyed our walk down there and managed to find a little ice cream shop to treat ourselves. The seaside seemed like a fab place to take the kids and we are sure they'd love it. The houses are beautiful and the people who live there seemed friendly. The walk back up to the site was a little more tiring than the walk down!

Overall, the site was fab for a night and would be great for I'd say three nights at the most with the kids. There is, as mentioned, the lovely Staithes to visit and also Whitby isn't too far away either.

Would consider returning with the kids for a couple of nights.

Visited this site for the Staithes music weekend we have been using the site for a number of years It is a nice site in a lovely area,

If you want all the mod cons, don't go, it is a basic old fashioned camping and caravan site with basic toilets and showers, there are a few hook ups.

There are pubs, fast food outlets, the harbour and a grocery store all within easy walking distance.

There are some fantastic walks from the site along the cliff tops.

We stayed at this camp site last year, a few times we found it on the off chance drive by and pitched up, and as said it looks a bit like a war camp but the owners were very pleasant and accommodating. They were thinking of selling but we were pleased when they didn't.

We are a large group and it does get a little rowdy but they didn't mind. They opened a hut for us to use the facilities (showers toilets fridge and sink) although there is a toilet and shower block.

We returned this year in may and were not greeted like normal and were told we couldn't use the hut. Prices were expensive compared to last year for less facilities. £4.00 last year kids half price £5.50 this year kids £4.50. Made it an expensive weekend. Dont know whether we will return, although we may give it another chance.

We stayed at this campsite to complete a section of the Cleveland way, and in all honesty I don't think we'll return.

Upon our arrival at the campsite, we were not even sure that it was a campsite. It is a collection of 'war time' Bunkers-turned huts with a grass camping area to the rear, and we were the only campers on site (for the whole weekend).

After confirming (by telephone) that we were at the right place (and that the nearest toilets were the - closed - public toilets in the adjacent council car park) we set our tent up and lit our BBQ.

We tried the 'recommended' pub just down the road, to find it boarded up, and dilapidated, however a wander down the hill into Staithes met us with a little more life.

Because of how empty the site was, and because of the adjacent car park being a 'local meeting place', we were actually a little afraid to go away for the day and leave our tent - but we did.

This is where the review picks up a little. The campsite is near the bus route from where Scarborough and Whitby are accessible, and the walks between said locations and this campsite are a (long!) breeze along some of Britain's most beautiful coastline.

We were also eventually given access to one of the huts where we could go to the toilets and showers. The man that took our money and gave us the keys to the hut (but not the owner/manager) was really friendly and said we were welcome to use the BBQs left in the hut etc.

He also told us that the owner was thinking of winding down the business, which could explain how quiet it was.
