We have stayed at this site 4 times since buying our van last year and have booked again to go back in 2 weeks for the Youlgreave well dressings.

We love this site - OK, it's not got a toilet block or showers or any of the other facilities of a big club site but that is part of the attraction as it makes for a very peaceful site on which to stay.

What you do get is a very warm welcome from Steve who is always on hand to help and give advice if needed and a very well-looked after site that is being made more attractive each time we visit.

We think that this is probably the friendliest site on which we have stayed.

Yes, some of the grassy pitches are on a slope but many are level. Most, if not all, of the hardstandings are level and if you are lucky enough to get a pitch at the top of the site the views are outstanding. We have never had a problem getting a level pitch.

The location is great with plenty of walks directly from the site. The walk through Bradford Dale is stunning. Youlgreave village is lovely with 2 nice pubs. The food at The George is very good with large portions. They also do a take away service for fish & chips.

The site is well placed for visits to Bakewell, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall - all within about 15 minutes drive. Bakewell has a regular farmers market on the last Saturday of the month and is a lovely town with numerous pubs that serve food. There are some lovely individual shops and a very attractive river with a pretty bridge.

Yes, as many other reviewers have mentioned the access road is a bit of a nightmare to put it mildly but don't be put off by this. The road is narrow and the lane has numerous potholes but a lot of the problems are caused by irresponsible parking. We have never personally experienced a problem but once followed the milk tanker from the farm which did struggle getting past a parked car near the church. It managed eventually to get past so all was well. If a huge milk tanker can make it through the village so can your caravan or motorhome!

It's very quiet and scenic site. However it is very steep in places. We didn't want electric and were shown to a part of the site that was very steep. The longer your van the more you will need to be jacked up. We opted for a more level pitch but had to take the EHU with it even though the site wasn't full.

The approach road from the church to the site is 1 mile long down a very steep hill (about 1 in 8) it is narrow with bends, parked cars and dry stone walls. There is also a stretch of about 1/4 mile which is a rough farm track with bad surface and potholes. To be fair this is not part of the highway, it just serves the site and farm. Getting into the site is the easier bit. Getting out is a nightmare, if going up the hill you meet something. We did. On a bend at the narrowest point we met a tractor with fully laden trailer who couldn't give way. A bit to-ing and fro-ing on a hill so steep unfortunately took its toll on the clutch of the car. Lots of blue smoke and burning. It says in the members handbook 'access road narrow and care needed' Thats a bit of an understatement. There are lots of narrow roads and all roads need care so they are not being forthcoming with the true picture. So that's what I have tried to portray here.

On a more serious point. The electrical fuse box at the rear of our pitch had no door, it was lying on the ground. All the RCD's being exposed to the rain. I did report it but all I was told was that it was earmarked for repair. A bit of gaffer tape would have tied the door in place.

The is a quiet site and the area is beautiful and within a few miles of Bakewell for supplies. Access is tight through Youlgreave especially if you have a big rig. The access road is also potholed and unsurfaced in places so you have to take it easy.
This must be one of the only caravan and Camping Club sites with no toilet / showers / pot washing facilities which is unusual these days. I have 3 children and I would not stay at this site for more than a week because of this lack of amenities.

We chose a hard standing level pitch which was fine but some of the grassed pitches on the slope looked worryingly steep. Some caravans had many wooden blocks under them to get level and I am so glad that wasn't me. The staff were helpful and friendly and the site was clean and tidy. There is even WiFi available for your computer which was surprising when there are no toilets! But it is cheap so you take your choice I suppose.

The nearby village of Youlgreave has a pub, a garage and Bakewell / Matlock is only a few miles away.

Although the area is great, the poor access road and lack of facilities mean it is a short stop only site for me next time. Even a pot wash would be nice- but there is nothing.

Just returned from a well earned rest at this site and could not want anything better.

The staff were helpful and very friendly and told us we could go wherever we wanted. We chose to be side on grass area with views to die for.2 days just chilling and enjoying a lovely quiet restful site . The lack of facilities were not a problem, the site is on a slope but again we didn't find this a problem .

The access is a nightmare though! We arrived on a Sunday and lots of parked cars in the village made it difficult to navigate and the road to the site was single track .Just crossed our fingers that no one was coming the other way!

This was the only reason we may not go back again as we could not fault the site or the fantastic views , worrying about getting off again spoilt it for us.

Had a lovely weekend at this great site. The warden was really helpful, giving us a choice of pitches for our trailer tent - we opted for the one which was more level. He also came to help on our second night when we had problems with our electrics late evening after the shop had closed.

The lack of facilities did not affect our stay. The surrounding area is a walkers paradise.

We have just had a fantastic 4 days at this site. It is in a beautiful location, with excellent walks straight from the campsite (Bradford Dale is breathtaking). The warden and staff are very helpful and friendly and the little reception block has basic provisions on sale, including fresh farm eggs!

It was completely full for the Easter weekend but because the sites are well spaced it did not feel cramped and we were not very overlooked. It was very quiet and the sound of birds and happy (but not noisy) families was a real pleasure. Due to the rainfall/mud we did not move the van and just walked everywhere, so the location was especially fantastic. The 3 pubs in Youlgrave are all good, esp the Farmyard, which has a lovely garden.

We will definitely stay here again and recommend to others!

We stayed on this site for bank holiday and it was brilliant. The pitches were soggy and we did get stuck half way up the hill! This was no problem to the wardens who simply got out the tractor and parked the van up for us (and a few others who had the same problem).

We were not rushed off the site on the last day, allowing us to go and meet friends and have a good walk from the site to Lathkill Dale.

~The meals in the George looked brilliant, huge portions and home made chips etc. Unfortunately we didn't have chance to try but as we'll head back again there is always another time.

The site has good views, caravans and tents well spaced out and not at all regimental. There are no loos/showers but that isn't a problem. People are friendly and I soon got chatting at the tap - many people just return year after year.

The only downside is that entrance, we missed it so had to turn and try again only a driver in the other direction prevented a turn. So whew we had to turn the outfit around again. And it is a bit nerve racking if someone is coming towards you! On our last day we managed to get right up to the village without a problem when a young girl in a small car decided she was going to cause us problems and it took a while to sort as she literally wedged herself between us and the church wall! Passers by immediately came to her rescue but on does have to wonder why on earth she didn't just reverse back a very short distance to allow us out onto the main street, would have saved her a lot of stress!

Lots of vans on the site so I really wouldn't be put off with the road.

Lovely and quiet site, enjoyed the walks, but the access road is a joke, I spent all my break worrying about the drive back out, it needs to be a tents only site.

Yes its tranquil and when I wasn't mentally driving back out I did enjoy the area, I was lucky and only met motorhomes coming the other way when I arrived and on my exit the local calorgas lorry was delivering and he could back-up. I don't think that however nice the site is, the drive should be so extreme.

Spent 9 days on this peaceful site even our 7yr old grand daughter said how quite it was with so many on site. The playground could do with a bit more for children, the getting to the site can be a bit of a problem if it is a weekend when you arrive.

There is plenty to do in the area and would recommend the grouse and claret for a meal.

An absolutely stunning, well kept, peaceful site. Had a totally fantastic 4 days here, in the glorious sunshine. The peace and quiet was wonderful- no noise, not too many kids (despite a very very full site). Heaven!

Only grumble (From the driver, not from me.) is the access lane - a little hair-raising but you`ve only got to do it twice!

The surrounding area is beautiful - views of the Dales as far as the eye can see.

The pub in the village - the George -was fantastic - really friendly and the best fish and chips you could wish for!

Cant recommend it highly enough- dont let the lack of loos and showers put you off this place, it is simply fantastic.
