This is a sloped and uneven field. The shower block is a very low standard with a charge for the showers that were long enough for me but not for the ladies who all seemed to end up not being able to rinse their hair and wash as well. Toilets weren't clean and need modernisation.
Washing up facilities were outside and uncovered so no good in the rain. There is access to a freezer for ice blocks but space was always tight and several people warned they had had their blocks taken despite marking them. This meant that they in turn took other peoples perpetuating the problem.
Location is super, right on the cliffs but lacks the sophistication of other sites in the area. There are no pitches just space that has to be filled. This is made worse by the fact that there does not seem to be any maximum number of units on the site.
The amount you pay seems to be open to debate as well with someone next to us with exactly the same tent (yes exactly the same) being charged £5 per night less.
Nice pub just down the road with great food. I had to sample several of their beers just to know I would make it through the night.

We went to this campsite based on reviews from this website of both Acton and Tom's Field. The sites are very different. If you want basic camping consisting of a large field with one or two small hideaway places, a basic shower / toilet block and a van that turns up at 8:30 in the morning this is fine. The views are very nice too.
The field is quite undulating with flat sections and looks like a minefield! This is good if you can pitch in the flat hollows out of any wind and can't pitch near the hedges or walls. However there weren't that many 'ideal' spots to pitch when we turned up and it wasn't full at the time. There is also a magical kid-magnet in terms of a tyre on a rope hanging from a tree! This is visible from most points of the site.
The showers/toilets were reasonably clean during the day and night, and the paper towels, hand soap and toilet tissues were always in good supply. However the men's did get an overpowering smell to it during the later stages of the day.
You could easily walk into Langton and this took about 10 mins to the pub, post office & shop. It is down a long hill and up a long hill on the return!
BTW - Highly recommend a trip to Worth Matravers and have a pasty and pint in the Square and Compass, the Scott arms in Kingston, but not the rather too expensive for their own good main street Corfe Castle pubs.

My friend chose this site for a our 5 day weekend in Dorset which included the bank holiday weekend.
This site is very uneven and when busy you may, like us, have to be prepared to pitch on a 'hilly bit'. It is a turn up and pitch where you like site which, I suspect, can lead to people pitching too close by but we prefer to take the risk for the freedom. It is quite a big field with quite a few shelterd spaces, however the middle of the site which wasn't quite as well sheltered did seem quite exposed.
Our biggest concern was the fact it was a bank holiday weekend and we were worried that the site may get over crowded, however we didn't need to worry, we arrived on Thursday to a rapidly filling site and when we left camp 10ish on Friday the 'site full' sign was up and remained up until monday evening.
During the busy weekend the owner was onsite in a static caravan near the entrance, people who had booked were directed to them. Others like us received a visit from the owners in the morning, on which we paid for all but one of our nights stay £12/night for my 5 bed tunnel plus canopy, £9/night for smaller 4 bed tent (vango orchy 400).
The campsite mainly attracts families and for children there is plenty of space for them to run around, cycle and an area of good climbing trees with two tyre swings which were well used whist we were there.
As others have said the van comes every morning to crys of 'it's the doughnut man!' from the children. I did not actually investigate this but my friend tells me that there is a bit of everything in it so if you have forgotten something you wouldn't have to leave the site in the morning just await the van.
The toilets were genrally in a clean condition I did go in on Saturday night and they were in a bit of a state but I think that was due to late night slightly tipsy people being less conciderate than they may have been if less enibrated. The lady who cleaned the toilet block was very good and came daily. Only once did I not have toilet paper (on saturday night). The showers were 20p for 5 mins or you could put in two 20p for 10mins, they were nearly always busy except for the middle of the night but it was a bank holiday weekend, I didn't use the showers. The shower block/washroom was half male, half female, as we were a party of two females I can only inform you of them, 2 showers, 4 or 5 toilets and 4 sinks. There was also a freezer for freezing your ice packs, you do need to make sure you lable and bag your ice packs so the don't go for a wander.
There was a sign up at the toilets saying 'no open fires' which everyone seemed to be ignoring but one assumes the owners would prefer there to be no open fires.
Over our stay we went to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door we paid £4 for 4 hours which was just about enough time for a wander round lulworth beach, village/tat shops and the treck to Durdle Door, I think the stone by the car park said 1 mile to Durdle Door but because it is up a very steep hill it feels much further, it is definitely worth the effort all the coves you see are lovely and well worth the puff up the first hill (it is the worst hill of the whole walk), you can drive to Durdle Door car park whch would be a shorter walk but I don't know how much quicker/easier it is. In the evening we went to Swanage to have Fish and Chips, we bought ours from the Fish and Chip shop on the front although later on we discovered on the promanade in a square which clearly was the popular choice. We went in to the arcades and played on the 2p slots which was great fun. The beach at Swanage is sand so for any of you sandy beach fans this is the place for you.
Corfe Castle is a short drive from the campsite there are several car parks near corfe but all have a walk to get to the castle, all the parking in the centre of the village are limited to an hour, I am not sure what the cost of parking is as my friend left me in the village and parked the car. I had been to the castle before and it was just as impressive this time as last, whist we were there there were a few events at the castle, outdoor cinema and theater in the evenings. The village is very sweet and has some interesting buildings in it including the forge.
For Sunday Lunch we went to Kingston to the Scotts Arms, although the menus and pub give the impression you may be about to get a chain pub type food however on the recommendation of another reviewer we went, I had a gammon stake with two eggs, it was very yummy, we sat in the gardens overlooking the valley with corfe castle in the centre. The garden had a telescope where you could look in detail at the castle and surrounding area's.
We decided we couldn't leave Dorset without a spot of fossil hunting and so again on the recommendtion of another reviewer went to kimmeridge the road leading to Kimmeridge is a toll and we (a car) paid £3. The short walk down the steps to the beach were a little dissapointing there was a lot of rubbish lying around however the beach made up for this by being quite stunning. Fossils were few and far between if you really want spectacular displays of fossils you really do need to journey to Charmouth and Lyme Bay, how ever there were a few to keep us happy we had not left dorset without seing any on the beach. The rock pools as the tide went out were teeming with wildlife and there were many happy children and dads netting crabs and shrips. The lines that ran through the ricks facinated me. As we left we noticed a number of children had followed a strip of higher beach right in to the middle of the bay.
I hope in the future to return to this campsite there is so much to do in this area and you cannot do all of it in one trip.

Although the site was quite basic and the facilities are dated, it was lovely and quiet. The field was gently sloping, but with flat patches which was ideal for pitching your tent. We never had to queue for toilets or showers at what ever time we went and there was always soap and toilet roll.
There is no onsite shop, but a local shop keeper comes round with his van of products every morning. We really enjoyed our stay.

Visited this site for the Augast bank holiday weekend.
You cant book here, its just turn up and pitch where ever you like, and the friendly lady comes round to collect money in the morning.
I arrived mid afternoon on the Thursday and got the last flattish area that had enough room for the 2 medium sized tents we had. By Thursday evening the site was very full, so on Friday and Saturday they put signs up saying site full (this wouldnt have been great if you arrived on Friday planning to stay on this 'no need to book' campsite)
The site has lots of slopes but their are lots of flattish bits as well so its not a huge problem. It also has lots of mounds that remind me of telly tubby land!
We camped by the stone wall which is less exposed than the hilly bits in the middle of the field.
The toilets are perfectly adequate, cleaned and well stocked twice a day (and the cleaner was friendly). There are 2 female showers which give VERY hot water and 20p gives about 5 mins. It was a very busy bank holiday weekend so you can expect queues. The queue for the showers would have been shorter if a group of 4 teenage girls hadn't used 3 20ps each.
There is also 1 plug socket for a hairdryer etc
Unfortunately planning permission has been refused for a new toilet and shower block which is a shame as this one does really need updating, but ultimately it is clean and functional, just not pretty.
There is a shed with 2 chest freezers for freezing ice packs. Even on this warm and full weekend there was plenty of room in both freezers.
A van comes round about 8.30 ish and has a great stock of things. Newspapers / milk / eggs / sweets / fresh bread and doughnuts and other random bits and pieces
The area is beautiful and the views amazing. There are lots of walks and priests way is just a few moments walk from the campsite, and then over a few more fields to the coastal path / cliffs / caves etc.
There is so much to do in the area. We visited Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Swanage (fish & chips on the beach) and Kimmeridge for fossil hunting.
We went down the road to a pub in Kingston, the Scotts Arms. The views are just amazing and we were very impressed with the food which was good value, freshly cooked and deliciouse. We drove, but saw a few people from our campsite who had cycled there.
I recommend this campsite and would definitely return

We've visited this basic campsite twice this month, for the Bank Hol on 3/4th May 2008 and then again on 28-31st May, as we'd loved it so much the first time! There is good and bad to this site though as we didn't have great second visit, but I'll start with the good!
Firstly superb views, relaxed atmosphere and friendly owners. Facilities always clean enough, and plenty of loo roll, seemed to be checked/ filled frequently. Ladies showers have a hook on the inside of the cubicle door and there was no queueing unless you happened to go in just after a family group. Hubby reports tricky shower in gents, but ladies was better than at home! Freezer for blocks switched on on 2nd visit. No playground for kids so make sure you are ok with them playing between pitches, though there was enough space for this on our visits and the hills should tire them out! Bring a mallet for occasional stony ground.
The Purbeck region is stunning and there is so much to do and see. Durlston Country Park has fantastic walks and views (with a shady forset walk which is great in the hot sun) car parking is up to £4 for 4 hours and £5 all day; we walked up from town) and Swanage Town is fun and friendly. The South West Coast Path can be reached easily from this campsite, our main reason for choosing, and it's possible to walk different sections on successive days without needing to move camp. Grocer's van in mornings in summer, which is handy for milk etc. We didn't visit any of the pubs as we took food out with us and cooked at camp.
Sadly our second visit was totally ruined by noisy neighbours on each night. First night; Teenagers from a big group and 3 unaccompanied boys next to them, making noise until 1.30 in the morning and only shutting up at third time of asking, the 3 boys then got up at six am and took two noisy hours to pack up. Second night; a new group of blokes further away drinking and playing a guitar from 11 ish until nearly 2am, thankfully teenagers were quiet; third night the same group of teenagers being loud until I complained to their parents (who luckily for them were in a caravan and had some soundproofing) We had none of this on the first trip so I guess it's pot luck as to who else turns up. The majority are lovely friendly campers.
The owner is a nice chap and will happily have a firm word the morning after but of course its a bit late by then! We didn't see him on the site at any time other than rent collection and the gates are always open.
If you have ear plugs/ a campervan/ don't need much sleep and like old fashioned camping you could take your chances! When its quiet, for us, its perfect.

Well what can I say. Yes the campsite was very basic - toilets were always clean (with plenty of toilet paper) only a couple of showers which there was always a que for but hey thats the beauty of camping - leave behind your home comforts. My children loved the site as they could run around and enjoy themselves. The area and views were outstanding. Swanage Town was clean and had all the amenities and studlands was on this side so no waiting for the ferry! We loved the van that came around every morning at 8am - the kids especially loved the chocolate donoughts!
Will definitely be going back again this year and the price was brilliant.

We have been going to this site as it is fairly close to home for the past six years and we love it and will return for as long as we are able. We love the bumpy, hilly site and the fact that it is so remote but with the most amazing views and very peaceful. It has male and female toilet blocks with a few loo's and two showers in each, but keep very clean at all times but only having the basics is fine by us with the area being so amazing. Everymorning a little van comes round the site selling the basics; newspapers, bread etc. So if you arrive prepared then you dont have to worry about leaving the site.

Acton Field is quite literally a large, sloping, bumpy field with a lovely view of Swanage Bay and some little stone cottages. It is surrounded by short-grassed fields maintained by sheep, with public walkways winding through them. The facilities are basic; there were only two showers in the female toilets (20p a go)and about three toilet cubicles, which were clean-ish and well-stocked but by no means stunning. There were also some freezers near by but that was about it. However, although the standards of this campsite may have been somewhat basic, the atmosphere was jovial. Soon after we pitched up, other campers were advising us on the best routes to and fro, and the haphazard pitch-where-you-like layout definitely had a chilled-out and care free quality to it. The man who came round and collected the money (very reasonable at only £8.00 per night for a six man tent) also personified the relaxed atmosphere. The local pubs were only a fifteen minute walk away, and I would definitely recommend The Ship Inn, which had good food and a happy set of workers. Wildlife was also abundant.we almost stepped on a badger whilst walking back from The Ship Inn one night. I'm not sure who was more surprised, us or the badger! So, in summery, if you don't mind giving up a few luxuries, Acton Field is a great place to camp. It is bumpy, tricky to pitch on and completely crooked.and an absolute breath of fresh air in a world full of rules and order.

Considering the large size of our tent (12 berth) we were able to find a pitch without intruding on others. The facilities at the site were basic but adequate, showers, toilets etc. Were clean and tidy the price per night was very cheap at £10.00 per night. As we were only staying two nights the site being basic did not bother us a great deal, we would use it again for a shot stay.
