Right next to the town so an easy stroll in for food, sight, etc. It is next to the main road but that should not deter you as it is not that busy/noisy for a road in a city.

Pitches good size and laid out well.

Toilets, kitchen and lounge were spotless and a very good size. Even had kettle and toaster in the kitchen to be used free-of-charge. Unisex toilets but the cubicles are very large. No need to pay for water.

Great site for exploring Orkney; not the most picturesque place there but also nothing wrong with it, just a bit utilitarian. Grassed sites with decent drainage--warden warned us of a spot that was waterlogged from heavy rain. Facilities more than make up for it, though. It's at the leisure centre so has access to a great indoor pool, soft play, cafe, etc. If you stay more than 3 nights the pool access is free. Also has a playground, indoor kitchen/washing up, a common room with outlets for charging, new and efficient washers and dryers. Individual shower/toilet rooms. All brand new and kept in wonderful condition. Tr Tesco is less than a 5 minute walk, also a Co-op and Lidl right there. Easy access to roads to explore further, and simple to walk or drive into Kirkwall.

Good location in Kirkwall, very close to three large supermarkets and only 15 minutes walk into the town centre. The site was full for the first night we were there but there was no problem with number of showers, toilets, etc, all of which were immaculate - as well as the kitchen/washing up area. The wardens work hard but are all very friendly.

From here we walked up to the Highland Park Distillery for a tour - it took about 30 minutes uphill all the way, but meant we could do tastings without worrying about driving. There are a few places in town to eat but it was very busy on one day as there was a massive cruise ship in the port so the town was flooded with passengers.

We had a hard standing pitch which was good when the rain started but it did mean we were in a formal row of caravans/motorhomes, which was the exact opposite to our previous site Wheems Farm.

We booked for 5 nights, hard standing with electric hookup. The cost was just over £24 a night for August for 2 adults, no kid or pets. The site is easy walking distance to town, 10 to 15 minutes, half the time to Tesco, Lidl and Coop!

The facilities are very good all in the reception area, even a lounge area and kitchen if you are camping. The laundry in the same building had 2 washing machines and 2 driers, £2 for a wash and £1 for 30 minutes tumble drier.

Kirkwall is an interesting town with Cathedral, independent shops and plenty of choice for eating and drinking. The harbour is worth a visit if you like looking at boats. The Neolithic sites are a must especially Skara Brae, all 3000 BC! Most are an easy drive on mainland.

The part of the site where we were had good tarmac roads and pitches divided by grass where you could put up an awning or pitch a separate tent. There is a bit of traffic noise during the day but it was peaceful overnight. You can use the swimming pool nearby which comes under the same umbrella at no extra charge. Very good. The other area for vans/ motorhomes is not tarmac and some pitches are on grass, not a great idea this far North.

If we were to return we would request the part of the site where we stayed again. The chem disposal is good quality but is at the entrance near the motorhome service point, so is a fair way to walk from the furtherest point of the site.

What can I say about this site, don't bother about other reviews. This site is 1st class, best facilities ive used on a site yet. Showers are free and hot. Local tesco and lidil near by and really close to town with out being too close. Site also has free wifi and freezer block freezing facilities which I think all sites should offer. Would deffo go again

Very conveniently located for access to Kirkwall, ferries, supermarkets and shops. No it's not a rural retreat, but a great base from which to work. We stayed initially for three nights, then camped elsewhere for two nights and returned for our last night on Orkney mainland.

Facilities - plenty and well-maintained. The presence of a lounge and some kitchen facilities and washing and drying were much appreciated, especially in bad weather.

Wardens usually available or easy to find and very helpful.

A bonus was getting 10 free trips to the excellent swimming pool next door.

Stayed here 2 separate nights due to ferries. It is a big, well kept edge of town site - not my style at all but it has everything you would expect from that type of site.

It wasn't full, but still seemed busy, I don't fancy a night with a full site!

Walking distance of everything in Kirkwall, 3 big supermarkets nearby, fuel 100 m and 5 minutes drive from the ferry terminal.

When I booked this there were only two pitches left with EHU and they were grass ones up against the back wall behind some tent pitches. Other than having to reverse across these as yet unoccupied pitches to reach my own one it was not a problem, the grass was firm despite the recent heavy rain. The warden was very friendly and helpful explaining all that was needed. This is a small but attractive site on the edge of Kirkwall.

The only problem we and several other people had that we spoke to was the combination lock to the facilities-it seemed to have a mind of its own making entering the building very frustrating.

The facilities themselves were modern and spotlessly clean. Some dog owners were allowing their dogs to run free on the site seemingly oblivious to any nuisance that they were causing-I am sure that if I were to do likewise with my Ridgebacks they would be the first to complain. As it happens

There is a large green opposite ideal for walking dogs complete with several bins for waste. Just down the road is a large Tesco with plenty of parking for large units.

Kirkwall itself is a very attractive town with a wide variety of shops many of which you won't see on the mainland. St Magnus Cathedral is magnificent and a must see. The Highland Park distillery on the outskirts of town is well worth a visit as is the Italian Chapel a little further away. If you have a freezer in your van then Jolly's fish shop is a great place to stock up with more than fish. Further north at Birsay is The Earls Palace which again is well worth going to as is Stromness the second town on the island. Incidentally, when travelling to Orkney it is quicker and cheaper to sail from Gills Bay with Pentland Ferries rather Northlink Ferries from Scrabster. If you have a day or two to spare then an absolute must is a visit to Westray, one of the more northerly islands. When we came to leave several of the tent pitches in front of us were taken which meant a bit of wiggling was needed to get out had I not reversed in in the first place then this could have been a problem. Perhaps the owners should rethink the haphazard nature of some of the pitch layouts.

Don't be deterred by previous reviews concerning travellers on the site. We have been assured by the warden that this was a 'one off' that occurred last year.

This is a lovely, friendly site where the staff are very helpful with excellent information available on the site (updated daily) One or two of the pitches are close to the road, therefore there is some noise; however, there is a good mix of hardstanding, grass and tent pitches so a good choice.

The facilities are warm and clean - lounge, kitchen, laundry and a heated shower block. The site is adjacent to the leisure centre with a pool, cinema, concert hall and other facilities.

There are 3 supermarkets within a 5 minute walk, town centre is 15 mins away, car hire a 5 minute walk with garage/fuel close to the site. There is also a huge green area opposite the site - great for dog walks, served by dog poo bins.

The site is well situated as a base to explore the Orkney Islands.

Maybe we were lucky: we'd booked a GWE pitch and got a good one, sheltered by a good big wall. Most units were on hardstanding. We had trouble with noisy neighbours one night (out of the six) but otherwise was quiet. The site facilities are superb, including a washing machine at £2 and two rotary airers outside, plus there is room to put up your own airer/dryer in the laundry room. Nice green area over the road (for dog walks etc). The only gripe is with the wardening arrangements (or lack of them). The three wardens we met were all extremely pleasant and helpful, but only there for a few hours every day. We were there into June, when things improved, but in May the office was manned only 5 hours/day. Very difficult for unbooked people arriving outside those hours.
