We have just returned from a long weekend at the Syke Farm camp site.
The location of the site is great, very convenient for walks, swimming in the lake and access to the pub!
The site has a number of other good points:
We often camp as a group and this site has no restrictions
You can choose where to pitch your tent, the only limiting factor being finding a flat pitch.
There are however some bad points:
The toilets and showers are the worst we have encountered, there is only one ladies and one gents shower (which are 50p).
The toilets and showers are not cleaned frequently enough, when people prefer to use the nearby public toilets because of the smell that tells you something!
No hot water for washing pots
Only a small amount of rain makes the site very muddy
There is definitely a smell of sewage in the evening
If you can live with the above bad points, I'm sure you'll love the site.

Perfect site for walkers, you can sit outside tent and view Haystacks, and the rest of the peaks surrounding Buttermere and Crummock Water. Facilities are fairly basic, though a new building offering seating facilities, an area for drying kit and an additional shower and toilet does improve these (also a power point to charge mobiles can be very useful!). You do have to park in car park and carry stuff to tent, but this is primarily a basic site and if you choose to bring the kitchen sink then be prepared for several trips across the bridge to tent! Wonderful charismatic owner real 'salt of the earth' character who will be around to collect site fees which at £6 per person are more than reasonable for the fantastic situation this site offers. Site does get a bit muddy in wet conditions and the last few days have certainly been that! Fish Inn a definite plus - great selection of real ales and also good food.

Just come back from a great weeekend here. Setting absolutely fabulous with views of Crummuck Water and Haystacks. Very friendly owners. Toilets clean and tidy, plenty of loo roll. The Fish Hotel, a very short stroll away served a wide selection of good real ales and served a tasty cumberland sausage and chips (bit pricey though!)
Had my dog with us which was no problem at all on the site (not allowed in either pub though) and stayed an extra day as it was so lovely.
Just brilliant - will be back soon - Thanks.

This is a 'back to basics' site, which is why we chose it. We already knew the area around Buttermere. We were lucky because there were only another couple of tents already pitched, as the ground was quite 'hilly' in areas and was quite hard to find a level pitch. Please be advised that you cannot park next to your tent, you have to leave the car in the car park and lug your camping equipment across a little wooden bridge. The washing facilities were at one end of the field, they consisted of a toilet block and a shower for both sexes. I would imagine in Summer there is possiblity that they are very busy!
Having said all this, we definitely will go there again! We loved the no car, No bar, No fun park set up! To lie in your tent at night and hear nothing but the babbling brook that runs along one edge of the site and then wake up in the morning to the sight of mountains is exactly what the camping experience should be like!
If you need a hearty meal (or breakfast) you MUST go to the Bridge Hotel, we had a fabulous meal in the evening which was fresh, well cooked and plenty of it! The service was good and the staff were very friendly and at reasonable prices too! We had children with us and we weren't kept waiting very long between each course. And the best thing about it was that is is a 30 second walk to the Hotel. And maybe a 2 minute stagger back to your tent!
REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR TORCHES.NO STREET LIGHTING AT ALL!

Just returned from my second visit to this campsite and again found it to be excellent. The owners of the site are friendly and welcoming.
Although the site is basic it is sufficient to meet your needs. As well as the toilet block there is now an extra shelter where you can take refuge which contains an extra sink toilet and shower plus a table and chairs.
The location and the views are what really sell this site to me though. At only £6 per person per night with free parking you really do get value for money. Be aware that weekends can be very busy and parking can be a problem. Once parked up it's best to leave your car where it is or you might not find a space when you return!
Nearest shops some 10 miles away so be sure you've taken everything you need with you!

We arrived late and paying in the morning wasn't a problem. Mrs Myle was happy to engage in friendly informative chat whilst collecting fees in the morning. Two pubs close by. Excellent real ale served in the Bridge, didn't go in the Fish - no need! Mrs Kyle's son makes ice cream from the dairy herd which I can heartily recommend. Site was quite full but not overly and despite being situated next to a river and experiencing quite a lot of rain the ground did not become too soggy. Another toilet block in the lower field might be useful. Car parking was a little tricky owing to the numbers staying. On the whole enjoyed this site.

Brilliant and really different! Unlike any site we've visited before. The fact that it was so hilly, was great especially for the kids to go exploring. The views were amazing. The shower and toilets are basic but they are clean and well kept. It is in a great location with 2 lovely pubs just a few minutes walk, that served delicious food and made children very welcome (but if you plan an evening drink in either of them, don't forget your torch, there are NO street lights) We had a brilliant time and are already planning our second visit.

This is a lovely but fairly basic campsite. Buttermere is such a pretty area of the Lake District, it's great for walking and there are 2 pubs in the village which serve a good range of beer and decent pub food. The campsite is mostly hilly but there are flat spots to be found and the scenery all around the campsite is just gorgeous. It really is in an idyllic location. You can pitch wherever you like and it doesn't matter what time of night/day you turn up - a welcome change! Facilities are fairly basic - separate ladies and gents toilet block with 2 toilets and just one shower in each. Dogs are allowed on the site which is quite surprising as there are sheep grazing on the site. The one draw back is car parking - you have to park your car and then cross a bridge over the stream to get to the site so if you've got lots of gear (which we did) you can expect lots of trips to and from the car!

Nice site but crowded the day we were there (bank holiday weekend). Can be difficult to get in the free car park and the pay and display is £5.50 per 24 hours.
Quite a struggle humping kit up from the car to the pitch, so don't go too far away from the gate if you've tons of stuff!
Facilities basic and approaching grotty - could really do with renovating. Take 50p pieces to use the shower.
And the farm ice-cream is definitely to die for.

A Fantastic Location! Great Views. Quiet, BASIC site. Tents only, no electric hooks or waste disposal. Access difficult, small gated car park then walk across short wooden bridge over fast flowing (ideal for cooling beer) stream. Long thin site, very hilly but plenty of level(ish) areas. Sheep roam here. Best keep your boots on. Stone built toilet/shower block adequate though basic, may be busy at peak times. Only 1 (we saw) fresh water tap by shower block. Very popular with walkers and cyclists. Big Hills, Tranquil Lakes. Village pubs both very good, 200 yards from camp, though the Theakston's Old Peculier was better in the Bridge Hotel. Site owner very friendly and chatty old fellow. Gorgeous local ice-cream and, if you ask the right people, FRESH UN-pasteurised milk, out of a cow, into a jug. Mmm Creamy! A great site to explore from, but not really suited to a family break.
