We stayed at Killegruer in late May 2015 for 3 nights. The owner, Ann, was there when we arrived and made sure that we were settled in and showed us around. She also arranged for us to be close to the facilities as my wife has a blue badge. Ann was very helpful and welcoming – excellent owner.
All the pitches are on grass looking out over the Irish Sea to Islay. It was lovely watching the sunset out of the van over the sea to Islay – stunning. There are a number of pitches with EHU but there is also a field further down the site for no electric and tents. The pitches are generally on the flat with good drainage. You are right over the beach and although you can orientate your van which way you want I would recommend putting the front towards the sea for excellent views. A small word of warning – it can get very windy here and you may need a storm strap for your awning – suggest you check the weather for your visit. The major draw is the closeness to the beach and water, where the children can enjoy themselves.
The facilities are clean and well maintained, but there is only 2 showers in each side and no laundry – there is one in Campbeltown.
This campsite is an excellent base to tour the Kintyre peninsular. Campbeltown and the Mull of Kintyre are just down the coast. Campbeltown is the nearest supermarket for groceries and there is also a nice coffee shop there by the harbour.

Reading through the reviews already posted tells the story of a stay at Killegruer. I can only add that our experience was excellent. Loved the fantastic view from our pitch, the friendliness we found, with a special mention and thanks to the lovely couple who gave us a freshly caught trout which we very much enjoyed. We visited the Mull of Kintyre lighthouse, worth the drive on single track roads, Campbeltown, Machrihanish and Southend, where we had a nice lunch at the Muneroy Tea Rooms. The shop in Muasdale is very well stocked, even a microwave to heat up your snacks. Back to Killegruer, Ann, the owner, couldn't be more helpful. Most people we spoke to had either had a static there for many years, or tourers who were on return visits. We will certainly be back. Thank you for a super stay.

As asked constructive criticism first a wee stool in the shower so you don't have to hop about to dry your feet and put your socks on 2 that's about it now the good bits stunning location, a relaxing and not to rule obsessed site, most vans were turned wrong way round to look out to sea, and catch the views over islay, jura and ierland, the owner ann went out of her way to make sure her guests were enjoying there stay and apologised for her absence due to volunteer duties at the commonwealth games, nice flat site, beach assess at either end of site, which was great for our two staffies to bomb around on, also the Argyll beach hotel, a dooable walk along the beach was dog friendly with good food at a great price, the owners and staff were friendly and spot on with the service the site has limited facilities for kids or night clubs for adults, but if you want a relaxed holiday in a lovely unspoiled part of Scotland, then come here youll love it. The long drive from Aberdeen was worth it and the welcome from the owner and the regulars on site would be hard to beat, we found this one of the best sites we have visited and with one free night if you book over seven, great value as well highly recommended and we will come back

This is a fantastic site, one of our favourites. The warden is very friendly and cant do enough for you.
The touring pitches are spread along the seafront with fantastic views of Ireland, Jura and Islay. The site is well maintained and run. Toilets and showers are clean and tidy and very large. Lots of local tourist information provided for visitors to the area. The beach is fantastic and you can walk for miles on it. Great for dogs and local hotels are dog friendly.

Great site. Can't wait to return. Terrific position - pitches for tourers right on the beachfront with wonderful views - Northern Ireland one way and Islay/Jura the other. Good showers and loos. All spotless. Could have gone to a recommended place to eat a couple of miles away but we ate in to enjoy the gorgeous sunny weather and fabulous sunset - viewed directly from our van/pitch. Dog walking excellent with direct beach access. Site has statics but they are set to one side and arranged very sensitively. The area for touring vehicles is on a raised area above the beach with easy access. The base Is grass but the ground is firm and flat. Couldn't be more pleased we found this site. Bought 6 eggs too!
Inclement weather could mean pitches suffer from wind exposure but we were lucky!
If there is a minor niggle it would be that there are no separate basins within a cubicle for a separate all over wash - hence 9/10 for facilities but - really - who cares - it's such a great place to be and the owner - and her able unofficial assistant, Hugh - are such great people.
Would go back drop of a hat/tomorrow :-D
Thanks so much Ann

After driving what seemed for ages finally reached this site which we had booked for 3 nights. And we couldn't have picked a better place.
As we had arrived a day early the owner said as they weren't too busy just to find a pitch we were happy with which we did and she would come and see us when she arrived on site. What a lovely lady she is and a big thank you to her for making our stay so good. The toilet block was always kept very clean with loads of hot water.
Being right on the beech the dog thought it was excellent to be able to pop out of the motorhome and run straight down on the beech.
If you take about a mile walk along the beech you will reach the dog friendly pub (Argyll Hotel) which is run by 2 very nice people and very friendly. The food looked really good although we didn't eat there.
There's not loads to do if you are a party animal but thankfully that isn't what this site is about
We will definitely be returning some time

This is the most beautiful site we have ever visited. We arrived to a pitch with stunning views of the beach, we were set up and having rolls and sausage within half an hour. The site owner Anne popped in to see us later in the evening to see if we were happy and settled, lovely woman!
With miles of sandy beach literally feet in front of your caravan, with the light constantly changing, families surfing, boats, kayaks and fishing going on, there was always something to watch. We travelled a lot while in this gorgeous area of Scotland and visited Machrahanish, Southend, Carradale and popped over to the amazing Isle of Gigha with its white sandy beaches and clear perfect sea (only 20 mins on the ferry and £4 odd per person - definitely worth a visit).
Each area we visited was more beautiful than the last, we have 2 dogs who loved spending hours running up and down the amazing beaches and falling asleep in the sun after their dinner where we watched the most outstanding sunsets over Islay.
I cannot recommend this site enough, paradise is exactly what we have found and we are currently trying to persuade friends to join us for another week in September!
We met a few people on this trip who were all friendly but we did meet a lovely couple from Cumbernauld who were great at letting us know what was in the area for walks and eating, they also made us laugh a lot, especially when their caravan decided not to go home half way out of the site.
Anne came and chapped our door on the last morning to say goodbye and that it was lovely to meet us, now you cant ask for more than that in customer service 10/10. Can wait to go back!

Just home from 2 weeks at Killegruer, we usualy stay at another site close to it for our annual 2 week break but they have stopped campfires on the beach, so thought we would try Killegruer a we love the west coast. We booked over the phone and was told there might not be staff on site when we arrive but to look for our pitch, as we drove into the site we saw our name on the reserved pitch. Doing it this way made things run very smoothly and you don't get that awkward feeling driving round and round looking for a pitch. After a little while the Owner came down to introduce herself, what a lovely lady she is, she runs a great site, and the toilets and showers were kept spotless. The toilets are very spacious with lots of wash hand basins and even though there is only 2 showers in the ladies I never once had to wait.
The shop at Glenbarr (1 mile walk) is brilliant as is the coffee shop and garden centre.
During the 2 weeks we met various families as always some nicer than others and although we never had children with us the kids on site were always being looked out for by other parents. Last week a lovely couple pitched next to us which was great, and today as we left we were ever so grateful for their help, because although we were reluctant to leave Killegruer to come home as we drove out our van decided it didn't want to leave and fell off the hitch as we drove on. Thankfully after a bit of pushing from our neighbours and a stern warning not to show us up like that again, we made it home safely.
Killegruer has the most amazing views from your pitches and last week we spotted some seals and a dolphin. The weather can be bad at times but in our 2 weeks we had mostly sunny ays, in the reviews people say about how it can get really windy there so take a few extra ropes and tent pegs for awnings etc. We will definitely be back along with other family members next year. Thanks for providing this great wee place.
I doubt anyone would get better for their money than what Killegruer offer, £16 a night in the high season for a caravan, 2 adults and EHU and a special offer of 1 free night when you book 7. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous no wonder most of the people there were regular campers and love to visit this little piece of paradise

Super site, the lovely owner greeted us by name on arrival and took us to a fantastic plot she had reserved for us, within yards of the sea and still gave us the option of another plot if we weren't happy!
Spotlessly clean toilets with plenty of loo paper, spotlessly clean free showers with hot water.
Didn't seem to be a great deal to do around the area but is definitely worth visiting this site when travelling between Arran and Islay.

Spent 1 night here during August Bank Holiday as a last minute thing to take advantage of the predicted nice weather! Lovely site, has everything you could need with regards to washing, showering etc.
Tent pitches right on the shoreline, fantastic sunset and breeze keeps the midgies away! Storm pegs were recommended, but we didn't need them.
Beach is fantastic, can walk for miles and hardly see a soul, the dogs loved it! Very long drive for us for one night (145 miles each way), but we'll definitely be back again when we have more time!
Only drawback is there is limited things for kids to do if staying more than a night unless they have good imaginations and love the beach. I must be a big kid as I could explore rockpools all day and not get bored!
