Just back from a couple of days at Manor Farm. This is a lovely site in easy reach of York. The facilities are detailed in other posts and we concur with what has been said. On our arrival the site was full and we never waited at any time to use the facilities; which were spotless.
The owners take great pride in their site which they have developed to a high standard. They were very informative on local information and had a well provisioned shed with many leaflets on the area.
We will return at some point for sure.

We stayed at Manor Farm in February over a long weekend drenched in bright sunshine. The position of the site is ideal for those who wish to park their car up and walk in to the city centre. This is what we did on three consecutive days making most of the cycle route which leads direct into the city along the River Ouse. The cycle route is accessed after a short walk along a fairly main road which has a good footpath. In addition to the city of York the site is also ideal if one of your passions is horse racing as its only 200yds from the main entrance to York Races
On arrival we were met by Chris (site owner) who showed us to our pitch and assisted us in locating the van. Although the site is located adjacent to a main road the noise from passing traffic was not that intrusive. Once normal business hours had passed the traffic noise reduced considerably and didn't present a problen during the night.
The site was very clean with well kept grassed areas. The toilet block too was always clean with ample supplies of loo paper. One slight criticism is that in addition the site fees, which I would describe as a top end for a CL, you then had to pay an extra 50p for a shower. That little grip aside we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would definitely return and recommend this site without hesitation.

Picked this site after seeing a review in a caravan magazine, and looking up feedback on UK Camps.
This is an adults only site, no visitors under 16 years of age.
We telephoned the day before to see if there was any pitches available, took a little time to confirm after asking the usual questions, how many people, dog, length of van etc, etc, anyway there was room so we booked.
On arrival we called to the house as advised, and waited for (male) owner of the site to answer the door.
We paid for our pitch (either cash or cheque) no cards taken which we were made aware of at the time of booking, then there was a question of where we were to be put. There seemed to be a bit of misunderstanding initially where our van could go. There is different fields, the 1st one you come to takes 5 vans (3 were already on pitches), but as we were already passed this field when we arrived and parked to pay, the owner had to wait to ask his wife where we were to go as it would have been difficult to turn around, after some time which I would have thought this should have already been decided on before we arrived, we were taken into the 2nd field and shown some pitches. There was only 3 vans in this field at the time, I think the reason for the delay is that some pitches are very shallow, our van is 18ft + tow bar, anyway after a delay we decided on the pitch we liked and parked up.
The site only had 6 vans on it all the time we were there, but I dare say it gets very busy in the summer time as it is adults only.
I think there is 3 fields altogether and is part of a working farm. The 2nd field was well sheltered with trees around the edges and was very quiet. The first field as you arrive in near a B road, so you will get some noise.
Once we had settled in everything was fine and we enjoyed our stay.
The price per night was £16 for 2 adults + 50p per shower, even if you have a shower each per night, this is still cheap, but I think it would be better to inc this is the overall price. You pay an extra sum for full awning, porch awning etc.
There is 1 shower and 2 toilets and a sink in each mens/womens toilet block, as the site only takes 20 vans max I cant see this being a problem even when full if you time it right.
There was hand wash and hand cream in the ladies loos. The shower was 50p, but you get more than enough time to shower and wash your hair, the shower was nice and hot also.
What I liked about this site was the owner was friendly, we did not see his wife while we were there, and it was very quiet.
There is a bus runs just past the site although we did not use this, its a great area for walking. It was just over the road to York Racecourse, there was always people either walking or riding their cycles along the Racecourse paths. It takes around 50 minutes to walk into York itself along the riverbank which was nice. If you turn right out of the site and go up the road until you get to the old Terry's Chocolate Factory, just over the road to this is a ginnel which takes you down to the river, then you can walk into York, you pass Roundtree Park which is nice to walk around, you also pass the Caravan Club Site Roundtree Park which is next door. We had a walk around here, it was full all the time we were away, but is very close to York Centre.
The walk along the river bank was nice, we walked one way, then back the other side so far.
The path across York Racecouse goes to Knavesmere Wood which was nice to walk through, it comes out the other side into a private housing estate, we walked through here until we came to the main road into York, then walked along until we came to Goddards House, a National Trust Property which has just opened to the public this year, there is also a small garden to walk around.
Bishopthorpe was around 1 mile away, we walked there another time, turn left out of the site.
Also we were around 1. 5 miles away from a Park & Ride, so one day we parked the car there and caught the bus into York for a change.
All in all a very nice stay, great if you are fit and like to walk, if not a bus on your doorstep, or the park & ride not too far away.
::One word of warning, this site is very expensive if you like to have day visitors - £3 per visitor + £3 visitors car:: the dearest I've ever seen.

Highly recommend this site. The owners are really lovely and very helpful. They have been running the site for over 17 years and know their stuff. It might seem a bit of a faff when you turn up but listen to their directions and you'll be saved a lot of bother.
The facilities are very good with 1 shower and 2 toilets per sex and although the site was full we never had to queue. It's 50p for the shower but it lasts for ages and is very hot.
We stayed 3 nights at the end of September and it only cost £16 per night for everything. Also we came at the tail end of all the flooding and you wouldn't have known a thing about it at the site as it is very well drained and didn't get affected by the floods at all.
You can catch a bus every half hour just outside the site and cost £3. 50 return per adult into York. If you wanted to you can walk/cycle a couple of miles into city centre too.
In the other direction, about 1 & 1/2 miles up road, in Bishopthorpe there is a Co-op with cash point and 3 pubs. We tried 'The Woodman' for a drink and saw food being served which looked good and was popular.
All in all a very lovely quiet site, perfect for visiting York.

We have just spent a week at Manor Farm and were absolutely delighted with the site. The warm welcome on arrival and personal siting of the caravan was appreciated. The information given about the locality and routes into York were very useful.
It is a clean and well maintained site with generously sized hard standing pitches, none of which overlook other visitors.
The toilet block is spotless and definitely adequate for the number of pitches. There was never a queue for the loo or shower.
York is a level two mile walk along the road/river and is illuminated for most of the way. The city is excellent with lots to see and do.
Whilst there we had a snoop at three other local sites and seeing how close the units were packed in and the state of the sites we were so glad we had chosen Manor Farm.
We were also shown the holiday cottage that has now been opened on site and were really impressed with the high standard of finish they have done it to. Recommended to those who are unable to enjoy caravanning.
The owners are very friendly and approachable. Chris tirelessly works on the site which is to the benefit of those who stay there. A lot of other sites could learn a great deal from this one.
Very much recommended and we'll certainly stay there again.

A very quiet & peaceful campsite feeling very much in the middle of the countryside, despite being so near York city centre. We stayed there for two nights & were pitched on the field furthest from the main road which we found cut out most of the traffic noise. We were early getting there but the owner was accommodating & showed us personally to our pitch & then after a brief explanation of the facilities, bus routes & walking into York etc we were left to get pitched up & settled. Its an ideal site & the facilities very clean, though I found that the facilities were in number minimal with only one shower in each of the lades & mens side could have meant a wait if badly timed. Found the owners pleasant & non intrusive will be happy to stay again.

Stayed here for 4 nights in Feb, one of the few sites open at that time of year. Although near a main road there was little traffic noise.
There are 3 pitching areas, one with about 5 pitches closest to the road, another with about 12 pitches behind that then when it's busy there is a further 6 (I think) pitches behind the farmhouse.
Excellent location for getting into the city, about 1 1/2mls, 40 min walk or ten mins on the bike. Cycle routes are excellent, you can cycle pretty much all along by the river into the city, plenty of other routes around as well including being able to cycle around York racecourse which is almost opposite the site.
Owners very helpful, facilities very clean, have to pay for the showers. Rates very reasonable inc hook up.
Yes there is just one shower each for the ladies and gents but it's not a huge site and we tend to use our on board facilities anyway.
Recommended.

Stopped here Sunday to Wednesday to break the journey up to Alnwick Castle northumberland. Ideally located for getting into York which we did on Monday on pushbikes, easy flat route along the riverbank took 20mins.
Cycled into Naburn on the Tuesday following the 'Planets' cycle path, turned off at Naburn to visit The Blacksmiths Arms for lunch which was very good and then onto the Locks, you have to enter the Naburn Locks campsite to get to.
Village of Bishopthorpe a good 25min walk, has 3 pubs all ontop of each other, The Marcia seemed quite modern, The Woodmans Arms is mainly into food, The Ebor seemed like a proper old pub, also has a Co-op supermarket. A large Tesco's with fuel is only a 5 min drive away near the college.
Site is 16yrs+ so very quiet even in the holiday period. 50p for showers that didn't run out at all. No washing up facility. Site split into 2 small sections, we had the back section which was furthest away from road.
Don't leave anything outside your awning near the grass on a Tuesday as 'it's grass cutting day' we had left our running shoes/socks out to air under our picnic table after a run in the morning, when we came back everything had been moved onto the hardstanding and not put back, there had been a big downpour whilst we were out and consequently everything was wringing wet and covered in grass and dirt!
Would return, although we found the assistance of getting onto our pitch a little too much, think so that you don't drive onto the circle of grass in the middle!

We arrived early at this site, to be given a lovely welcome from the owner's wife. After being given a quick initiation of the facilities and filling up with water, we were shown to our pitch, where we settled in for a couple of hours' well-earned sleep!
Site is situated approximately one and a half miles from York City Centre (along cycle path), which took us approximately fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace.
York itself is amazing: historical and informative, with an abundance of shops and eateries catering for all tastes. A visit to the National Railways Museum is a must, whether a rail enthusiast or not!
Site itself is small, but easy to find from York Ring Road, with spaces for 15 vans. Spacious, hardstanding pitches with electric hook-up. Toilet block consists of one shower and two toilets and one wash-basin in each. Shower is 50p for 7 and a half minutes for gents and 15 minutes for women. Facilities are kept spotlessly clean by the owner, which is a personal 'must', with nice little touches (vase of flowers and ornament) giving it a homely feel. Plenty of loo roll and soap, too.
Site was lovely and quiet: hardly any road noise and a good night's sleep easy to obtain.
All in all, a lovely, pleasant, Adults-only site, which we would return to without a moment's hesitation.

Having seen the Rowntree site was booked up until November 2011, we decided to give this site a go after reading the positive reviews and we weren't disappointed.
Site provides well spaced hard standing pitches, the rear half of the site is surrounded by 10-12 ft hedges which limit views, but make it very private and sheltered.
EHU, on all pitches, lovely toilets and showers which appear to be checked several times a day and are heated. The toilets appears to have been recently refurbished and the owner was also discussing the updates of the shower cubicles themselves.
The water, waste water and chemical loo disposal are all around the toilet/shower block. Everything you need is here.
The owners were very friendly and enthusiastic and were always on hand to answer any questions.
About a 20-30 minute walk into York, and a 15-20 minute walk into the local, and very attractive, village of Bishopthorpe - this has several shops, fish and chip shop, 3 pubs and lots of things many villages have now lost.
Was nice in February - will definitely be returning for longer when the weather is better!
