Just returned from a long weekend at this site, which is set in beautiful surroundings. The site is next to a working farm, so you will hear animal related noises during your stay.

The site is basic and doesn't look like it does on the website - it is very tired and in need of some tlc.

We didn't actually see the owners during our stay (no welcome pack on arrival, as advertised) you really can do as you please (and people do!)

I can't comment on the shop/reception/ cafe as these were not open at all when we were there, talking to others on the site it's not open unless you book in advance - which really bothered some people, but not us.

Facilities - washing up area, 2 toilets and 1 shower - not 2 as advertised on the website - wasn't an issue to us as we are up early enough to avoid the queues for the shower.

What a gem, if you're not into glam camp. Small basic campsite with huge customer service. We had a pitch in a overflow field, no hookup or water but loved the serenity and peacefulness of it all. The washing up area, toilet and shower are in the main campsite area as are the water, chemical and grey water disposal. Some people might be put off about the location and getting to the site but we would definitely come back if in the area again.

We have just returned from a glorious 10 night stay at this fabulous site.

The site is as the name suggests rural, several miles of country lanes to get there, but boy was it worth it!

The site was full for much of our stay but we never had to queue for the spotlessly clean loos and only waited a few minutes for the (again spotlessly clean) shower. Esther had a small shop on site that sold sweets drinks and a few camping accessories. The shop wasn't manned all day but not a problem for us.

There is a small children's play area, which was big enough to keep out 2 children and all their new friends entertained for hours.

Our pitch was lovely and level with hard standing for the car.

For us though the thing that makes this site a 10/10 was the owner. Nothing was too much trouble, a font of local knowledge and a very genuine lady who truly loves doing what she does. She visited all campers in the morning and evening to check all was well, and was on the other end of the phone to sort any issues outside of these times.

We will definitely be returning. :-)

Just returned from our 2nd visit, still as good as it was the 1st time. Had a lovely relaxing long weekend, with good weather and great company. Esther and her family still endeavour to make your stay as stress free as they can.

Good value for money, prices are still low and haven't increased since last year, which was a very pleasant surprise. No charge for hot showers, which is unusual as most sites do.

We still have no hesitation in highly recommending this site to others.

It's not often I leave reviews for camp sites, but. Wow!

We stumbled across this site while looking for a site that is quiet, small and friendly. We really weren't disappointed. On arrival, Esther was out, but we knew which pitch we had been allocated, so set up. Once we met Esther, we knew the week we were booked in for would fly by!

Friendly, attentive and ultra helpful, Esther did all she could to make our stay as enjoyable as she could.

The facilities were great, soap in the loos of a small camp site is a rarity! The shower was hot, clean and spacious and the loos impeccably clean and tidy.

Yes, the flies were a pest at times, but this is a working farm, in the great British Countryside, what do people expect? Camping is surely about getting back to nature!

I dabbled with the beauty treatments, having one of the best pedicures I've ever had!

The grass pitches are plenty big enough for our small caravan, a tent and our car, the bigger grass pitches were huge, and the hard standing pitches were massive!

We didn't bother queuing for the shower in the morning, the site was full and very busy, we simply waited until late afternoon and had long hot showers without feeling rushed.

This site has moved to the top of our 'must return to' sites.

Just spend 2 brilliant weeks during end of June & early July at this small out of the way site. This was our first holiday in our touring van. No problems apart from a broken jockey wheel and grab handle trying to move my caravan to my pitch.

The site was clean, tidy, & peaceful. Excellent value for money on a very large 'superpitch'.

The owner really trys hard to make your stay enjoyable. Lots of local knowledge and advice.

A trip to the Hive beach cafe at Burton Bradstock is must.

Showers and toilets were excellent, hot water all day long. Views of the Dorset countryside to die for. My feet still feel great after one of the owners foot treatments in her Spa room.

The last mile or two is not for the faint hearted though, as the road is single track but with passing points for the tractors etc. Makes for a bit of fun on the journey and tests your towing skills. We aim to return next year but this time with Grandchildren as well as the two dogs.

Graham & Christine.

Friendly on the phone and on arrival. Lovely site, good rural views, facilities all very clean. Close to several seaside resorts. Really enjoyed our stay. Great site but worth noting the website needs updating re the facilities as there is still only 1 toilet and 1 shower. Although not a problem for us we imagine it could be an issue if site busy. Cafe/reception not manned from 9 - 9 as advertised and we did not see the book exchange, or shop. We can only imagine these facilities are available during busy season. Really not an issue for us but could cause disappointment for some guests.

We booked this site for Easter weekend and cannot tell you how fantastic the scenery is here. The pitches are of good size. Great for walkers and cyclists. Shops and pubs are within short driving distance or for walking about 2 miles if weather is nice. This is a working dairy farm and you will get noises associated with it. I must say very peaceful place to be. Did not try the café as closed. What we did try was the treatment room where myself and my husband both had relaxing treatments. I would recommend this for anyone staying here. Esther is very friendly and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay just wish it was a bit warmer.

We have just returned from 10 glorious days at the site. Would recommend the Rural Retreat to everyone. Well out in the countryside, only cows, sheep and tractors for neighbours.

Ester was really friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

Lovely hot powerful showers, good facilities regularly cleaned. Ester also gives wonderful massages, (of which I had 3) just to make sure I was giving a fair rating!

We took our 3 grandchildren to this site and we all loved it. We found it very quiet, but it was out of the main school holiday dates. We travelled on one of the wettest Saturdays of the year and were brought to a standstill by a heavy flood.

Ester drove out and met us and guided us to the site. We found it very clean and with good facilities. Having 3 children to entertain I wasn't able to avail myself of Ester's spa but we fully intend to go back, just the 2 of us and I shall hope to have a little pampering.

Due to the uncertain weather we spent a lot of time in the caravan and the DVD rental facility was very useful.

Altogether the site was in a lovely location, the owner was friendly and helpful and we would love to return.
