Just back from 4 days at this delightful small site. We arrived late because of rain/floods by Esther was very welcoming.
For a small site (15 pitches) the facilities are outstanding. Half are hardstanding and half grass, but with hardstanding for a car. All have electric hook-up.
The shower/toilet block are brand new - at present 2 toilets and one shower, but a further shower and vanity cubicle are under construction. Lashings of hot water - no miserly push button and a temperature control.
The site had 5 units when we stayed and there was never a queue for showers/toilets/washing up. A small cafe on site where Esther will prepare meals - we had a bacon roll one morning. WiFi available.
The location is very rural and lanes narrow and windy - not a problen for us in a VW T5 conversion. Bridport/West Bay/Seatwon/Charmouth/Lyme all a few minutes away.
Also Beaminster and Forde Abbey both worth a visit. There is also a children's play area and they are encouraged to see the farm animals.

We had a lovely time at this site a few weeks ago. It's very tidy and well organised with lovely views. We were initially concerned that it's right by the road, but there's so little traffic it was no problem at all. The loos, shower and washing up facilities were excellent - very posh! The playground is also nice, so it's a site to come back to another time with the children. Another child-friendly touch was the toddler step available in the loo block.
The site offers home-cooked food and beauty treatments and although we tried neither this seems a really nice option.
Overall, a well thought out and well maintained little site.

We have just spent 4 days at this lovely, 'away from it all' small site, it's been refurbished so everything is new and will mature as time goes on. We arrived in the rain quite late. Everything is close at hand so quickly set up. The shower and toilets were clean with lots of hot water. It didn't really stop raining all weekend so it was a real bonus having a hard standing pitch, which half of them are. The area is so beautiful with many walks inland and coastal, only a short drive, to Charmouth, Lyme, and Bridport. Esta was very kind and helpful. We will be going back again as it's reasonably priced, especially as we have 3 small terriers, for which there was no charge and it had everything we like in a small site.

Every now and then you discover a gem! My wife and I have stayed on many a campsite throughout the UK and Spain, I have never really bothered writing a review but the hospitality of the owner and facilities on this site are worth a mention.
This really is great little find and we will be back. I completely agree the comments made by Shiqella in a previous review who camped at the same time as us. Their review is written far more eloquently than I could write but the comments made are accurate
We had our own fenced pitch which was fantastic, the new toilet/shower and washing facilities were fantastic too and don’t bother taking breakfast, there’s a mean bacon ‘butty’ to be had from the kitchen.
I didn’t get my legs waxed whilst I was there but I am sure if I had done it would have been to the same high standard as the rest of the facilities!
If you plan on a stay in this area, I would gladly recommend with confidence that you plan a stay at the Rural Retreat

We stayed here on the Jubilee bank holiday weekend when the site was full. The site was easy to find using the owner's instructions and helpful signs at intersections on the way pointed the way. It's a small, tidy camp site but the pitches are huge (see the site plan on their website).
Our neatly grassed pitch was more than enough for our 5m bell tent and I think it would comfortably hold even the largest family tent.
The owner was friendly and made our little family and our dog feel very welcome and she made sure we had everything we needed - we bought a bag of wood for our wood stove and she fixed us up with luscious fresh milk from the dairy when we discovered late that we didn't have enough.
At night the site was wonderfully quiet and peaceful and the generous pitches and good spacing mean that there is no noise from neighbouring pitches. There is a lovely rural view across the fields to greet you in the morning and the smell of home-cooked breakfasts from the tiny site cafe was enticing. Our two year old son was fascinated with the cows as they came and went through the neighbouring field for milking.
The owner also operates a small beauty salon at the site and I was delighted to be able to arrange a leg wax, even on a busy bank holiday weekend. She also does massage and I wished I could have indulged myself!
There is a little playground, which seemed very popular with visiting children, though our little man was a bit young for it.
I think some of the previous complaints about facilities may be a little obsolete as the new shower and toilet block was clean, shower is spacious and had lots of hot water and we never saw a queue, even with the site fully booked.
The location is handy to the coast and other local attractions. For dog owners we noticed some signs indicating public footpaths but as you walk through the fields the right-of-way becomes unclear so it would be worth buying an ordnance map to help find your way if you plan to do a lot of walking.
All in all we felt it was a little gem of a site and we will definitely be back (just hope we can get in next year as I think it will book out quickly once word gets around!).

Really nice site, with excellent facilities, we had a 3 night stay and was given our own fenced pitch which was really great.
A very family and pet friendly site with the added attraction of the cows on their way to milking.
If you don't feel like cooking, the on site cafe is a good option, as a minimum the bacon sandwiches are great.
I didn't use the on site beauty parlour, but talking to some of the ladies on site that did, its a real treat.

Hi everyone we are newbies to this and retired so on a huge learning curve - but we'll do our best to give a fair review of one of our first visits to a small CS site for the C&CC network. This is a lovely little site it only has 11 pitches but it packs a lot in - we stayed for a long weekend and wished we had longer - it is not a site you will be glad to leave it has amazing views of hills and fields and they are unspoilt and uninterrupted. The prices are more than fair for what you are getting. Some things some people may not use but I think you will want to try them anyway- the take away is only in use at busy weekends and high season. Shower block was not complete when we stayed but work was continuing apace. The old shower was more than adequate and clean with lots of hot water. Very friendly on the phone when booking and that was the same when we arrived. We were the only ones on site last week so that made it a bit more special for us! all in all and excellent little site and we hope to be back.

We are just back from a wonderful week on this 'find' of a campsite and we have just got to tell you about it - we casually booked the pitch using your website and so had no previous knowledge or experience of this site. Wow were we in for a treat - it is a perfect little site - it has everything to make a superb break from it all - as they say on their logo 'get away from it all' Esther was so helpful and patient and got us settled in on a huge pitch with water and waste right there on the pitch and we arrived late- and yes that's right it is certified site with superpitches - I was a bit gobsmacked to say the least. Then we had piping hot showers all clean and, a reception and shop (albeit still being finished while we were staying) but that didn't matter - it was fun seeing progress each day! Finding the site was easy with website info and good signage. All in all thoroughly recommend this clean and well organised site with some of the best views I have had on a CS!

We left this site a few days ago and had a wonderfully relaxing time (just we did last year)
To all of you that weren't happy, improvements are in progress and we are really looking forward to going again when it's complete. Last year there were intermittent problems with the shower but these have been rectified with a new lovely hot shower unit.
The site is as it states a 'hideaway' site so don't go expecting playgrounds, shops, or main roads but if it's peace and tranquillity you're after then this is the place for you. Massages, reflexology, manicures and other treatments are available too which makes this site even more special. These are carried out by Esther the site owner in a beautiful treatment room.
Esther and Mike are a lovely welcoming couple who would go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

I have just returned from a really nice stay at this site with my wife and two young children. We were after a nice, quiet, reasonably priced campsite in order to explore West Dorset and in particular Bridport, West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
I could not disagree more with the other recent reviews of the site. We paid £12.50 per night and were thus expecting something very basic. On the contrary, we had a hard standing (something you pay a premium for on other sites), hookup, and a perfectly adequate toilet and shower. I enjoyed lovely hot showers every day we were there, even though the site was full.
Mike and Esther, the owners, made us very welcome and really made the children's' holiday by letting them meet the new piglets and see the cows being milked.
The children at no time got bored as there were the cows to watch each day and room to run around. Again we were not expecting from a 'Certificated Site' a huge children's play area.
The site has recycling bins for glass, tins and paper/cardboard which many sites do not have.
We found it a great base from which to explore this part of the country and would recommend to anyone who wishes to explore this part of Dorset and experience a little something of farm life.
