Recommended to me by a friend. They know me well because the campsite was just what I needed. Small, quiet, it was really getting away from it all; nestling at the foot of the mountains of Snowdonia in a beautiful valley, with a cascade of water running past the site to lull you to sleep at night - and what views!
The facilities are basic - but I've given it top marks because they work well, and are kept in good order. If you want something all singing, all dancing and all the comforts of home, this isn't for you.
Midges were a bit lively - so take your Jungle Formula (other anti-insect lotions are available).
Ian and Anne were the perfect hosts - welcoming, full of advice and information to make the week come alive. As is generally the case with camping, this was also a great place to meet families visiting from all over the world.
And if you're feeling really adventurous, the campsite is right next the Watkins Path that takes you on an energetic walk up Snowdon itself.
It was recommended to me. Now I'm recommending it to you. What are you waiting for?

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at Hafod Y Llan and I cannot recommend it enough. The peace, quiet and surrounding views of the beautiful countryside are the best things about this place.
The self check-in is an excellent idea - you park your car, fill in the form, pop the correct money in an envelope and then write your car registration on a tag which you tie to your tent to identify you to the warden. Although it asks for correct money only, Ian the warden even popped up to our tent to give us our 50p that we had accidently over-paid. The campsite is extremely basic - it is simply a field with a basic shower, toilet and washing up block. No hot water apart from in the showers and we took our own drinking water with us as the water on-site needs to be boiled before use. However, if it is tranquillity, beautiful views and relaxation away from civilisation you want, then it is perfect.
My one and only problem were the midges which were a complete pain but then that's what you have to expect when camping. Parking the car in the car park at the bottom of the field could become a problem for some as it involved a bit of carrying back and forth, however we didn't find it a problem.
I would recommend this campsite for couples, small groups of friends interested in a quiet break and families but if you want to be up late, making any noise, then choose elsewhere as it is a very quiet place after 10 pm and noise at this time is frowned upon.
The surrounding area is fantastic, with lots of walks for all fitness levels. We climbed Mount Snowdon which was challenging but definitely worth it. Also, the nearest village of Beddgelert is well worth a visit and has the most fantastic ice-cream shop. Syggun Copper Mine on the outskirts of Beddgelert is also a good way to spend an afternoon, although it may be unsuitable for younger children as the tunnels you walk through are quite dark and the commentary is definitely aimed at adults.
In short, regarding the campsite, what a wonderful place! For purely selfish reasons, I hope it stays this way and doesn't become overly popular as it surely will do with anyone who stays here.

I stayed here on a recommendation and was not disappointed. A lovely, quiet site in a beautiful location. The Wardens, Ian and Ann, are really nice people and are very helpful and happy to chat and just pass the time of day.
The site is very basic with limited facilities, but is kept spotlessly clean. As has been mentioned before, quietness is the order of the day here and I for one found it perfect. If peace and quiet are what you seek, then this is the place.
I think if you are part of a large group then seriously you will probably find Llyn Gwynant more suitable.
I will definitely return.
PS: the midges are a pain!

This is a gem of a campsite. Clean, quite, and the views are just stunning. At £5 per person per night you just cannot go wrong. The self check in makes things so easy, find your pitch, pay your money and away you go.
There is no hot water in the toilet basins or the wash up area, and you have to boil your drinking water. But for a back to basics site this is just perfect and the staff could not be more friendly if they tried. I will be going back there again at some point.

Just back from a 2 night stay at this site. It is a turn up and book site with a self check-in facility of how many nights you want and find yourself a pitch. When we arrived the wardens were there cleaning up and we were made very welcome.
It was about 5pm on a Friday evening and all the firepit pitches were taken.
The field is sloping but not a massive issue and all that is requested is a 6m spacing between the tents of other groups and find yourself a space.
The site is indeed basic, take your own water filled up from home is good advice, we loaded up with water to save boiling on arrival.
1 shower for men and 1 for women, 50p for 5mins and this was long enough to get cleaned up for me but my sister used 10mins for hair washing etc.
All the water is cold on site, washing up, face washing - cold water only.
No vehicles are allowed in the tent area, there is a car park over the other side of a wall with a gate. A bit of lugging of tents and cooking equipment etc but it keeps the site nice and open.
I took my campervan so slept in the car park whilst my sister and her b/f used the field in a tent.
We chose the site as it offered access to a path up Snowdon without moving. The Watkin path is the hardest path up Snowdon though.
We had a glorious sunny day to do the walk but would not recommend this route in bad weather due to the very steep scree to climb near the top.
Price of 5pppn was very good.
Midges were a pain in the evening so some repellent is recommended.
The weather for the next day is put up on the notice board on site as well.
No EHU, no noise allowed. We saw the warden get straight onto someone in the carpark who had their music on quite low really but with the door open.
I would go back to this site, again for a weekend. I would prefer more facilities if staying for a week or so.

Well I think this must be one of our top Campsites.
It was basic, but very clean the showers we're lovely & hot after a long days walking, 50p for 5 mins was more than enough time to get clean. It was great having a the fire pit & for £6.50 per night to burn as much wood as you wanted was a reasonable price.
The wardens ( Deb & Martin ) at the campsite were absolutely wonderful, friendly, & helpful & made the stay even more pleasurable.
We stayed for two weeks some days were a little wet but the ground stayed firm. The location was great for us with the Watkin path & other fantastic walks on your doorstep not to mention a short drive to the sea.
The nearest village of Beddgelert is a lovely small village with some great places to eat. The ice cream is yummy !
Porthmadog has a ATM, Tesco with a Tesco petrol station, plus other shops.

Just got back from staying here for 2 nights - what a lovely place. The facilities are excellent and both the NT volunteers were very friendly and helpful. I would strongly recommend this if you need a relaxing break, I would recommend to pack some insect repellent etc when those midgie's are out !. Having a open fire is a must, paper and wood supplied. We will definitely go back.

This is one of those sites you don't want anyone else finding out about. It is located on a working sheep farm next to a river with waterfalls further up. It's also next to the Watkin Path if you want to climb Mount Snowdon.
We stayed here over the last May Bank Holiday. It is now £5pp and £6.50pn for using a firepit and as much wood as you can burn in a night. Even though the site was full, there was a relaxed quite feel to the place. The toilets and showers were basic but clean. Showers cost 50p for 5 mins. The water has to be boiled for drinking and there is only cold water for the washing-up sinks. The new self check-in system is great. Just fill your details in, put the form and payment in the box and away you go. The wardens(the farmer and his wife) do come around later and check.
All weekend the wardens came around every day and made sure everyone was alright, they helped people light campfires. They were so helpful when we got a puncture and helped us change the wheel.
The nearest pub/shops are a 5 minute drive away in Beddgelert. There is also a piazza take-away there.
We will definitely be going back here but whatever you do, don't tell everyone about it.

A very simple site but with adequate facilities. Clean but basic toilets and shower. The site slopes so even though we stayed over the wettest weekend ever the ground did not get boggy. The Watkin path passes the site so it's a great place to start from straight from the tent with no driving. The warden was extremely helpful - good luck with the cycle ride.
Excellent cafe just along the road with real home cooking and even the option to get a packed lunch for £5. The nearest village has pubs - The Scimitar does good food. No mobile signal but there is a phone box on the main road.
Would definitely stay here again. Our only suggestions for improvement would be to have a few more hooks in the wash room as we had nowhere to hang dry clothes while we changed and a better sign on the main road would be helpful. Oh and turn the rain off next time we come.

Ideal base for exploring the area close to Beddgelert, Llanberis and Porthmadog. The camp site is well priced at only £3.50 per adult a night and £1.50 for children. The camp site allows camp fires at £6.00 per night with as much wood as you can burn. The warden on site is very helpful offering to start your fires for you for newbies like my wife and I this is very helpful. Only down sides to this site are access, the entry to the field is very muddy on wet days. Facilities are minimal, basic toilet block 50p will get you a 5 min long shower. No drinking water you have to boil all water. All in all I will continue to use this site as although basic it provides all you need.
