This site now allows tents, which isopod as it is a lovely site, as people have said, loads to do in very scenic setting. There's also a small children's play area. Toilets are excellent, loads of space, plenty of hot water etc. People running the site were friendly, I believe it was taken over this season. There is now also recycling at this site. I look forward to returning, although I'd advise booking ahead, as it was full when we were there early August.

As an Affiliated site I wasn't sure what to expect. Really pleasantly surprised. The site is in an old walled garden, it looks well cared for and 'pretty'. The dog walk is in the grounds of the house, looks more like a castle, which I now believe to be a Rudolph Steiner school. There are many tracks around the estate with a river/lake at the bottom, this is complete with an island of monkeys, which are part of the next door safari park. The Rhododendrons were out and were beautiful, some over 20ft high. The showers were brilliant, double width with a hand basin, and you didn't have to touch the controls, just wave at them. Dyson hand driers. I was only there for one night as a stopover up to Skye, but well worth staying longer.

We just loved this site. Situated in a wall garden with lots of walks in the woods adjacent to the site. Children's playground well away from the main site. Showers and toilets clean and lots of hot water. We especially liked the many tracks just outside the site on the estate where you could walk or cycle in peace away from the traffic. Large loch nearby and a lovely river walk into the village of Doune where there were two small supermarkets. Would definitely go back.

This is the most formal, 'posh' site I have been to. I have only ever been to sites that allowed tents before (with a tent, as this was my first time with a caravan): this site does not allow tents. Most of the caravans were good quality and the owners were obviously experienced caravanners with every mod con available. This probably explains why, even on the Bank Holiday weekend, that the toilet and shower blocks were never busy when we were there.
When we arrived, the woman on reception was not very helpful or friendly. I enquired about some toilet chemicals and asked what the two types were for, only to be told, rather incredulously by the woman on reception, 'I have NO idea! I know NOTHING about caravans!' So if you're new to camping and think you might get some advice or assistance at this park, you probably won't get it from the staff.
As stated on the website and in other reviews, they offer very limited opening hours, however, they do have electricity hook up (1) and water in their car park and they also have a key entry to allow you access up till 8pm to the park.
Everything about this caravan park speaks of quality - a lot of money has obviously been spent on everything -the toilet block, the hard standings, the satellite dishes dotted around and the children's play area.
The toilets are warm - the gas central heating radiators were on all the time and the sink water was hot, but the showers weren't great: there is an ill-fitting shower curtain that does not stop the water soaking the whole cubicle and there is only the tiniest space to stand on the other side of it to dress/undress and to dry yourself after the floor is soaked. The showers are operated like automatic taps, so can just go off at random if you are not standing/moving close enough to the sensor and even up to the highest setting, it was only lukewarm when I used it this morning.
The site is not at all friendly. In fact, it is the most unfriendly site I have ever been on - fellow campers rarely even smiled at one another and did not say, 'Hello'. It was lovely and peaceful though - I was far away from the children's area, near the toilet block. I could have had peaceful lie-ins in the mornings if I had wanted to. Everyone seems to be in bed by 10pm. You won't find any late night drinkers or loud music at this park.
There seems to be no recycling here and it's not very eco-friendly - all rubbish is general waste in big bins outside the toilet block and the toilets have heating on all day often with the external door left wide open.
You can walk/cycle through the land in the private estate next to the caravan park with its lovely trees and loch and this route takes you to the back of the safari park (although this is not a way in). The safari park is a mile away and we got entry on other days for free after paying once at the caravan park, which was really good value.
We had lunch the first day at a pub in nearby Doune which was great and went to Waitrose in Stirling one evening. We also used a local Spar in Doune for bread and milk.
This is a really well-established site that is very peaceful and in lovely surroundings and would probably be most suitable for older (age 60+) experienced caravaners with beautiful caravans - the type of people who polish their car at least once a week.
Just not for me. I would rather slum it in a more child friendly place. This has a good children's play area but it seems like the children are shoved as far away from the rest of the site as possible and when other caravanners do see them coming to and fro - they don't seem to like young children being there.
All in all - great for retired people, or childless couples, not so good for families.

Whilst not exactly a warm and friendly welcome, it was quick and efficient enough. The site is mainly in an old walled garden, we picked a pitch just outside near the kids play area.
TV reception was poor, we got a fuzzy picture, no C5 and no sound on the BBC, very frustrating! However, pitches inside the walled area did appear to have tv hook, but didn't get chance to investigate.
The site is served by one shower block and it was great. Clean, warm and loads of free hot water and plenty of power from the showers, unlike on some sites.
Stirling is about 5 miles away, there is a good park and ride that was dead easy to find and is much underused according to the driver.
Visit the castle for a great day out, it's free to English Heritage members. There is also the Wallace Monument as well, there are around 250 steps to the top, its a breathtaking climb to the top and the views are amazing!
We preferred Stirling to Edinburgh as it's seems much more relaxed. Didn't get chance to see all that we could and will be going again, just get the tv reception sorted!

Just returned from this site after staying for a week with the wife and 3 kids (8yrs and 4yr old twins). Very nice site, staff were pleasant enough and helpful when needed. The road to the site has been repaired since last year making it easy to get to the site. Access is easy, it's about a mile past the safari park and sign posted.
The site was clean and tidy and spacious, big pitches. The toilet block was very clean and showers were free and hot! There was a family shower room which could accommodate my three kids easy and was handy to shower them all at the same time.
The site is split in two, the walled garden and the play park. This was handy as we pitched right at the park and the kids loved that. The park itself was good, kids loved it and the woods were nearby so walks were also fun.
The site has a limited shop which we found not really helpful, but a 5 minute drive and you are in Stirling where there is everything you need.
The pitches were all hard standing (make sure you have rock pegs) and you arrive and pick your own pitch. The one complaint about the arrival system is you can't arrive before 2pm and must be in before 5pm! Not the best.
WiFi is available, £5 a day or £20 per week. Good cover too. Another bonus is if you purchase your tickets to Blair Drummond Safari Park at the caravan site, you can re-enter the park as many times as you want while you stay there for free.
Only bad points, no chemical point in the top park, toilets close between 10-12 for cleaning and silly arrival times.
All in all this is a good site and we will be going back soon.

First visit to this site in many years. Pretty spot, pity about the dirty approach road, but this was down to the local farmer and nothing to do with the site.
Excellent facilities. Nice friendly welcome. TV reception was a bit hit and miss.
Easy access to Stirling and the Trossachs, with Glasgow and Edinburgh being within easy reach. Ideal for someone looking for easy access to the towns while being based very much in the country.
Will return, actually kicking ourselves for missing this site off our regular list for so many years!

To find site:- On the A84 two miles south of Doune watch out for left turn at sign for Cuthil Brea and camping site. Access is at far end of lane with passing passes and speed humps. People are asked not to arrive before midday and the reception is closed 1. 00pm to 2. 00pm.
Blair Drummond is a Caravan Club affiliated campsite. The site is open from mid March to early January and non member are accepted but not tent campers. The main part of the site is enclosed in a former walled garden. There are some pitches around the outside of the walled part. There are many mature trees in and around the site. There are 88 pitches of which 85 are on hardstandings, some on chipped granite but mainly open block paving which the grass grows through. Some pitches are occupied by seasonal users. There is one toilet block which is of a very good standard with spacious shower cubicles. Toilet cleaning times seem to be a bit elastic! Reception sells a few essentials. Site wide WiFi is available, you sign up and pay online. Television seems a bit problematic and getting a satellite signal requires careful pitch selection. For children there is an adventure style playground and a small kick about area. For those arriving late there is a parking area outside the site barrier with electrics. Whilst Blair Drummond is a very nice site at £23. 50 a night it is a touch expensive given that we are outside the peak season.
There is plenty of opportunities for days out from the site. Stirling is only a few miles away and Stirling Castle is well worth a visit. Stirling itself has a good shopping centre. There is a Park and Ride near the M9 which is worth using as parking in Stirling can be difficult and expensive. For children the Blair Drummond Safari Park, virtually, next to the site will be popular. For shopping there is both Sainsbury’s and Tesco in Stirling.

Stayed here for four nights in mid July 2011 and enjoyed much better weather than a few weeks previous in Devon.
My wife and I REALLY like this site. It is away from the cities and a little out in the wilds. We particularly enjoy walking and cycling, although we're not keep fit fanatics. This site has so much 'off the beaten track' appeal, yet it provides first class facilities, well maintained flat pitches with 16 amp power and being half a mile from the main A84 road it has excellent security. Watch out for the speed humps in Cuthill Brae, as they're not too clearly marked.
There is a large adjoining wood/conservation area where we walked for a couple of hours (without seeing a soul) and came across 3 roe deer not 5 metres away from us.
We do most of our own cooking, but there's a great pub restaurant in Thornhill only 5 minutes by car. Splendid menu choice & really good food. Bread & milk are available on site as well as a small selection of tinned food, but you need to think of going the 5 miles to Stirling for general food shopping.
We shall certainly return here, as there's so much to do and we've still got to visit all the usual sightseeing places such as Stirling Castle.

Blair Drummond caravan park is easy to find but lady at wardens office was very unwelcoming (nails). On asking about the discount for the safari park she replied in an off manor you just buy them at the entrance to the safari park, we then found out after reading some leaflets that you can in fact buy the tickets right at the wardens office and it gives you unlimited access to the safari park for the duration of your stay for the same price as a one day entrance ticket.
Unusual you get to pick your own pitch and then inform office about where you are. The play park is great and is in a separate area with about 18 pitches around that area, which is great if you have kids! Ours had a great time. Main walled site is even nicer but you can't see the playpark. Toilet and shower facilities are excellent, plenty of them and very clean. Site is very well kept. 3 Miles to nearest shop is the only downside.
Great value if you are visiting the Safari Park. Would definitely return.
