We camped by the river, which is very scenic. Dartmoor is a beautiful part of the country.
The campsite offers a first come basis NO BOOKING.
The facility has two toilets and one Cold water tap in the farmer’s ground, which is a good five minute walk.
Due to a high number of people using the facilities, it became dirty quickly. People should be prepared to clean up behind themselves.

Nice location if you are on the lower (main) site. Booking system doesn't really work as people just turn up. Probably a bit annoying if you can't get on site due to this.
Overflow site is the same price, so £30 a night is not cheap for a family of 4.
Bring or forage for some fire wood as it's another £5 for a box.

Great location but expensive with very poor facilities. With some investment this could be a great campsite.
Improving access off the lane dangerous pulling out and very narrow.
Installing water in the camping field, putting in a path to the toilets and cleaning them.
There is no shower and you have to take your rubbish home.

E mail from campsite owner was friendly. However when we got there they failed to mention how small the gateway was despite the fact I had informed them of the make and model of my van.
This would be a brilliant place to stay for someone with a small car and tent definitely not for vans.
Beautiful location but sadly where unable to camp here because of gate width.
Such a shame as was my kind of camp site eg fabulous location and simple facilities.

Beautiful location, but with VERY basic facilities. Two toilets and one shower for the entire campsite, which is a bit of a uphill trek away. The washing up area is also the used for teeth washing and is cold water only.
The toilets are pretty filthy most of the time and the one small swing bin is the only bin for the entire campsite and was permanently overflowing. No recycling available.
If this site had better facilities it would be fantastic as the location on the River Dart is perfect. Open fires are allowed and you can buy wood from the site owner in the evening.
Its £5 per head per night paid each night in cash, which is fine, but if you have a lot of children, then it starts to add up.
I really hope that the owner invests in another toilet/shower block and a washing up area. Perhaps a freezer for ice packs would be a good idea as well. Fresh water down in the camping field would be a big bonus too.
It doesn't need electric hook ups as I think that would spoil things. Its a dark skies area and doesn't need to be polluted with light.
There were a couple of big noisy groups whilst we were there insisting on playing music until late on the first night. The music was much quieter on the second night as I think someone had a word. I'm sure that at time this site is lovely and peaceful as it should be, but does seem to attract some 'party campers'. Pity.
The kids loved the site as they could play and swim in the river and in the trees. Just down the road the river turns a corner by a road bridge and has created a really nice beach and swimming area. We spent our two days there just swimming and relaxing. There is a pub up the hill but we didn't go there.

Fantastic site. We got married in the chapel next to the campsite and hired the second camping field for our guests and for parking. Nothing was too much trouble when booking here.
The views from here are stunning. Plenty of toilets and wash facilities including a shower. The Forset Inn laid on a campers breakfast too which was amazing!
Our guests loved the site we even had a section by the river roped off for pictures. If you love Dartmoor and all it has to offer this is a perfect camping site for all ages.
Awesome rope swing over river dart for kids!

Just got home from another 4 night great stay at this site, peaceful well located spot next to river dart, most areas in the field are level unfortunately the near by Forest Inn has closed but we came prepared with our own supplies.
There has always been a toilet and outside tap and sink available to wash dishes but the owner told us he is soon taking delivery of a unit which will house further toilets and hot shower facilities, although no electric hook-ups are planned but personally we feel that would spoil the ambience
Of the site it is perfect as it is.
If your looking for a quiet relaxing spot this site cannot be beaten.

I love this place. We just been for a few days to have a short break.
We call them to book a pitch and to ask about the review below.
1) yes there are come planks but no way unsafe as they are railway sleeper planks which are there so you don't walk through a boggy patch when raining. You can walk to the toilet via the road so you have two ways of getting to the toilet and water (tap)
2) when you get there you got a tight gap which you need to remove the gate to get your car in and out or you can park on the road in the church car park or the lay-by a few yards down the road. When your there you will enjoy yourself.
3) you got a lovely river with a large slow moving or standing still where you can swim in and the water was nice so bring yourself a towel.
4) you are able to have an open fire to warm your toes up if your getting a bit cold or like the feel and sound of them, or maybe just to toast some marshmallow. You can collect your wood from the moor or buy a bag from Dave (the owner) for £4 to get a big bag of wood and logs to last you a few days.
When you go make sure you have fun but if you want to go back to basic and only want a toilet and a field then this is the place for you. If you want showers internet and everything else you get at home then don't go, as here you won't get a phone service which I loved as this meant there was no hassle from home or work.
I have to say go and try it to see it this place is for you. What have you got to lose at £3. 50 per person per night dogs are free as long as they are friendly and don't upset other campers or dogs.

I've used this site several times on hiking trips in Dartmoor. Well, it's not so much of a site as a field. There is an outdoors loo available for use, and a tap for drinking water. Both of these are about 100 yards walk away from the camping field and require crossing a small stream over some dodgy planks. The field can get very boggy. I'm not selling this very well, am I?
The big plus for this 'site' is the location: in a wonderful part of Dartmoor, off the high moor and just down the road from Dartmeet. The camping field itself is next to the River Dart which is very swimmable in, both at the campsite and at many spots up and down the river from here.
The Forest Inn is about a mile up the road, very walker/fisherman/dog friendly with good Devonshire hot food on offer (try the lamb shank: lovely).
I'd be more than happy to spend a week at this site, especially at just £3 per night. Just don't expect a hot shower!
Highly recommended for the brave and mad.
