We came here for the Bank Holiday Weekend, we were in the over flow field, nice friendly people who managed the site, didn't need a hook up but there isn't any that I could see in this field. The toilets and showers(token 50p) were basic but clean, well apart from the odd spider up on the ceiling, plenty of hot water.

The field wasn't busy so plenty of room for the children to play.Close to beaches, there is a Cost Cutter just up the road for basic needs. A nice walk to Berry Head just up the Rd takes about 10 mins, lovely views over the bay, walks around the coastal path, I didn't do them as I had just gone for a little walk after breakfast with the 2 oldest children. Nice little cafe and toilets there too.

I would recommend this site and will probably go again next year.

This was the second visit I have made to the campsite. This is a lovely place to stay for a few days or weeks. The toilets and showers are ok, you can use Brixham Rugby Club for a drink which takes 4 minutes to walk because I have counted it.

Going to try and go back for a few days this year, I have stayed in the over spill field in 2008 which was good, there was a caravan and camping club setting up there. The location for the site is good and very handy if you have a dog because this place is surrounded by paths. I would just say two words try it.

This campsite was very disappointing in that it was quite scruffy.

Not all pitches had electric hook up although we had specified and paid for it (we did overcome the problem).

The standpipe for water was overflowing and dirty.

The campsite was overpriced for the facilities and they even had the cheek to charge for showers.

The only pub was a good 2 mile walk (it felt like it)
Management response: Please note that as of 2018 this site is under NEW management with many years experience running holiday parks, and some aspects of older reviews may not reflect the current campsite.

We had a lovely few days on this site. The facilities are basic but clean and adequate. Good value for money. It was very peaceful despite some traffic going to the holiday parks and a CCC holiday week in the next field.

Lovely walks. Take footpath on right, about 50m further down the lane from the site entrance. At the end turn right to walk towards St Mary's Bay or turn left to walk round cliffs to the napoleonic forts on the headland where there are great views across to Torquay and beyond.

There is a Costcutter shop at the holiday park about 200m on down the lane.

We enjoyed the walk down into Brixham but usually caught the 17 bus from the quay. 12 minutes past the hour - ask for Higher Ranscombe Road.

I almost don't want to tell you all how good this site is. It's the sort of secret you want to keep to yourself. Situated approx 10 minutes walk from St Mary's Bay, the site is basic but completely adequate.

It is located between two holiday camps, and we were able to use the bar and games room in both. It is also possible to walk into Brixham although there is an almighty hill to walk back up.! (I got the bus back - no 17, runs every hour on the half hour)

There is a small prefab shower / toilet block with a couple of coin (tokens, available form staff) operated showers, toilets and hand basins, all spotlessly clean. There is a room for dish washing and a freezer to freeze your ice packs in.

The well maintained field is basically flat and level, there are water standpipes every third pitch or so, and electrical hookups for nearly every pitch (I didn't require one).

The staff are very friendly, and helpful, and though they are not on site all day, they can be contacted on their mobiles.

All in all a value for money campsite, quiet, clean and well maintained. Would definitely visit again.

I stayed here for 2 nights in September with my boyfriend and our dog and we loved it.

I usually try and avoid campsites with clubhouses and playgrounds etc, as I am generally looking for solitude when I camp and this site did the job very nicely. Got chatting to a couple in the pitch next to us who said they'd been here a few times, and that they also tend to look for adult only sites or places with less noise from families and small children, so it seems that this is a good place if you just want a quiet, simple break in a good location.

Small, basic field with basic facilities but all perfectly adequate and clean. There were only two other pitches taken when we were there, so we had plenty of room. The owner was friendly and laid-back and I felt very relaxed here. The location is ideal; Berryhead is beautiful and has some spectacular walks and views; Brixham is within walking distance where you can get boat trips across the bay to visit Torquay etc (dolphins can be seen frequently in the bay, they tend to follow alongside the ferries, very sweet).

If I was visiting the area again, I would definitely choose this site!

The management style at this site can best be described as relaxed - a lady comes around for about an hour in the mornings to clean the toilets and collect the money and other than that you are on your own.

There are two fields a small main field with electric hookups and an overflow field without. Pitches can be booked in the main field and are marked with a card bearing the campers name.

I phoned to book for the August Bank Holiday and was told the main field was full so we would have to go in the overflow field. Upon arrival some of the pitches in the main field were not marked so we took one. The people next to us said that they booked a pitch but couldn't find their name card and so took an unmarked one. As I said the management is rather relaxed.

The overflow field is massive and was nowhere near full, even on a Bank Holiday with a good weather forecast, which makes this a good place for a last minute break during the peak season.

The toilet facitities are OK but one irritating problem is that none of the water taps in the main field are threaded to take a hose connector, which made it very difficult to fill up our campervan water tank. I did manage to find a couple of threaded taps in the overflow field but that means driving down the road to get to the entrance gate. Also the site doesn't have a manhole for discharging campervan/motorhome waste water tanks.

The site is very near the coastal path and there is a lovely cove with a reasonably sandy beach not far away (albeit down a steep path).

The site is within walking distance of the town although you have to walk up a very steep hill to get back.

We were not very impressed with Brixham although the harbour is quite nice (the town doesn't have a beach). The town itself is a bit scruffy and there are not many places to eat out - particularly if you don't like fish'n' chips. You can however walk from the site around the coastal path to the Berry Head Hotel which does very nice meals. It also has a great view out over the sea.

I would say that this is a good site for a holiday by the sea particularly at peak times when other sites may be full. The fact that it is walking distance from the town and the beach makes it particularly handy.

Just got back from a 5 night stay at this site and what can I say that has not already been said, not much really.

This is camping at it's most basic but it is such a lovely place and things are so close to the site that you really don't miss not having an onsite shop, bar, pool, etc.

As has been stated previously the toilet\shower facilities are in a large portacabin type of building but they were always clean and tidy and well stocked with the essentials, i.E. Loo roll, etc.

If I had any criticism it was the fact of not having somebody onsite that you could pay for your pitch. We spent very little time on the campsite during the day and that is when the caretaker/owner came round and collected camp fees so we missed them. However they do have an office that is open at about 9.30 each morning for a short period and you can wonder in and pay then.

All in all a nice site that we will be using again without any hesitation.

The previous reviews could not forecast the ghastly weather, so we will try to ensure the grim conditions do not colour our review. We stayed for a week and thought that the previous reviewers got it about right.

When we arrived, the friendly site warden was making the second of two brief daily visits. We paid her for the whole stay in cash, as there is no facility to use debit or credit cards. We also purchased a handful of 50p shower tokens, each of which gave 6 minutes of very hot water. So far so good.

We pitched the tent and then started to make the beds and kitchen. And get everything in. Connecting the hook up was a problem as our power lead was around 15 metres long. It did not even get close to the power point, which was shared between three pitches. By then we were less than thrilled that at the prospect of moving the tent to another pitch with a closer power point. The site warden had left for the night, so it was not even possible to ask to borrow an extension. The warden was nowhere to be found the next morning so we solved the problem by driving 15 miles to a caravan shop to buy a 25-metre extension for £25.

The site is indeed well placed for walking along the coastal paths and to Brixham. It is a cheap ‘no frills’ site and the facilities were basic and clean. It was disappointing that we never found a nearby shop for the morning paper although I am sure they must exist. The Maritime Inn on the way down to the harbour is a must if you want something to look at whilst you drink. The nearby Rugby Club was cheap and cheerful, but they did not do food when we visited. Our legs were aching after a few days of the hills but we were getting used to it by the end of our stay.

One thing we have appreciated in other sites, is the confidence that comes when there is a site warden on site to sort out any problems. I would have preferred to pay a little more for this feeling of security. For example, what would happen if there were a site power ‘trip out’ or a need to complain about ASBO fellow campers late at night? Luckily we never had to find out.

In summary a well placed, cheap and clean site that is worth a visit.

I stayed here alone for 3 nights over the early May Bank Holiday. Booked by phone - they were very trusting and friendly, didn't require a deposit or credit card number.

The easiest way to find the site is to follow the brown Berry Head signs. A nice small site, although (there was only the one field open when I stayed) there was nothing for children. Suited me - I felt safe there (my first time camping alone). The site was clean and well kept.

The facilities are basic (portacabin) but clean, hot water, soap, paper towels always available. The site doesn't have a full time warden, in fact I only saw one once, but certainly when I was there although there was a certain amount of noise until 1 am it was largely chattering (apart from what seemed to be a car door slamming competition from one pitch - what was that about?) which might be irritating if you're trying to sleep, but it wasn't "threatening" noise (i.e. Not kids riding motorbikes round the site).

Berry Head (a nature reserve) and the Napoleonic forts are nearby, as are the beach, Marina, harbour and Brixham town centre.

I was pleased with my "find" and would happily go back.
