Really liked this site. Was situated on the infamous Donkeys Nest which as others have stated is on slight slope.
Toilets and showers are clean but they could do with more showers. Only 2 in the gents. In fairness only had to queue one day (and not for long) but could get busy I guess.
Takeaway on site good as there is little nearby.
Booking in advance is a must for restaurant which sells everything from cheaper bar type meals to restaurant quality higher priced meals. We opted for the latter and the food was very good.
Be aware that the takeaway and restaurant are CASH ONLY.
Appleby is only a couple of miles away and although it's not the biggest town it has everything you need including a small SPAR and CO-OP. The butchers and bakeries all looked great and you do have to queue for them.
Be aware that parking is Appleby town centre is limited and required a Disc which can be gotten free from most shops.
Appleby swimming pool was very clean and warm, the water was nearly bath temperature.
All in all a nice site which we enjoyed very much

This is a lovely site, went in between the 2 bank holidays so it wasn't as busy. Grass area bit on the slope side, kids loved the pool, could of done with being a bit more heated. Toilet block was very clean plenty of hot water. Quite close to the camping field so not far to walk to get to the toilet. Playground was clean and plenty to do on them, kids enjoyed the games room, always on the pool table. Hope to go back in august.

Just got back from a mid week break at the Wild Rose. What can I say. It was without doubt one of the best sites we have visited so far, where to start, friendly upon arrival great pitch (Chesters) Toilet block very clean at all times. Food bought on site can be a little pricey but you don't have to buy it if you don't want to.
Dog walking area was ample they even provide the bags if you happen to forget yours.
We visited Penrith and was very disappointed (it took us longer to drive there)
Appleby however was great the people very friendly 3 or 4 cracking pubs and a nice walk along the riverside.
Overall I would recommend this site as a great value for money site

Visited this site in April just as the weather was changing for the better for 3 nights.
We were very surprised at the standard of the site as we had not read any reviews, but it was a great site with loads of facilities.
The toilet and shower block was immaculate, there was a cafe/bar a well stocked shop and even an outdoor pool.
The ground was a bit soft after all the rain previously but it started to dry out nicely when the sun shone,
There is quite a bit to see locally all not very far to drive or walk,
All in all a good site and we will return this year sometime

Fantastic site. Love the spacious pitches. Toilets and shower facilities were clean + well kept, possibly the best we have seen. Staff were very friendly + helpful. Beautiful views. Excellent value for money. One negative would be children's play area could do with being updated. However an excellent site + brilliant weekend away.

We took advantage of the parks offer to leave our van here for a month for £ 150. What a bargain considering they wanted £125 to stay for 5 nights in Feb half term. We live 1hr 15 mins away.
The site is large with several playgrounds, tennis court ( not the best but kids love it) an outdoor pool - not recommended to use in Feb!, games room, bar, restaurant and shop.
There are statics, seasonal tourers, tourers and camping pods not too sure if they take tents. Lots of areas, we were on a super pitch with main water and drainage. The pitches were large and hard standing with small hedges between them.
We had a toilet block facing us which was cleaned several times through the day. There were only 3 showers in our block but lots of wash rooms and toilets. 2 of the showers had underfloor heating. There were several shower blocks around the site, but I would imagine they get really busy at peak times.
There are several walks nearby and it's just over 3 miles to the three greyhounds pub which serves good food at reasonable prices.
The only downside we found was that if you want to go out for the day it's 90 mins drive to Ambleside 60 mins to Grasmere and 30 mins to Penrith.
Penrith really is a small town so if you are looking for quaint shops you might struggle, although there is an aldi and morrisons. Appleby is 3 miles away with only a few small shops and cafes. There is also a swimming pool.
Overall if you like walking and are not bothered about driving a long way to visit villages in the lakes this site is wonderful. There are plenty of things for kids to do on the site and amazing value for money when we went.

Just got back from a weekend break at this site and it is a lovely site. The pitches are well spaced out and very easy to manoeuvre caravan into.
The super pitches look excellent but we were using The Sun newspaper vouchers for this break and we were still very pleased with the pitch we were allocated.
Very clean, swimming pool looks a decent size, shop sells most things and the restaurant looked nice but didn't eat there. Will stay here again sometime. It would be nice if there was a club with entertainment on site.

Just come back from an amazing week at Wild Rose Caravan Park. Camped in the Donkey Nest area which is described as slightly sloping by the site, but it is very very slight. Toilets / showers were close by, always clean, never didn't have hot water and the block was heated. Washing up facilities also part of the block - undercover but outside.
Camped with our dog and the site is well set up for them - place to tie your dog outside the toilets and outside reception. Dog shower was great (for us anyway - not sure she appreciated being jet hosed in cold water.) Dog walking area isn't huge and is well fenced in if your dog is a fair size, but not if its the size of ours (Jack Russell).
Restaurant wasn't open much whilst we were there (due to season I guess) but the menu looked good - although not the cheapest - main meals were aroudn £10, starters near to £5 from memory. However had one of their take away breakfasts on the last day and no complaints at all. Also found out that the let you eat in the conservatory area at the front of the restaurant with your dog.
Played pool a few times (badly) in the games room - not helped by one cue being bent and another missing the tip - but it added to the fun and gave an excuse for my appalling game.
All in all would definitely go back again.
Incidentally - we went on a Mirror 95p per night camping offer - best value holiday I've ever had - however would also be happy to pay full price for this site.
Appleby itself is a 5 min drive away from the site and is very quaint - lots of independent shops. Don't go expecting large supermarkets - there aren't any. Did find a quite small Morrisons in Penrith but that was all. However do buy meat from the butchers in Appleby - it was amazing.
Well placed site for walking in both Pennines and Lakes - also went on Settle-Carlisle railway so through the Dales into the mix as well

We really enjoyed our stay at Wild Rose,we booked a full serviced pitch and it was definitely worth the extra money.
The site was very clean, there was plenty of play areas for the kids and a games room, the outdoor pool was never to full and was also kept very clean and tidy.
There was plenty of toilets, showers and family rooms to choose from with hot water from morning till night. We ate at the restaurant and found it ok,we did feel there should have been a small bar area where you could just have a drink rather than sitting at a table set out for food.
The shop sold everything you might need and the staff were friendly, reception staff were also very helpful and friendly.
We walked into Appleby, enjoyed the walk but very little there.
We would recommend Wild Rose to anyone and would definitely go back.

We arrived at 5.15 unfortunately the reception closes at 5pm so we had to contact the warden to book us in. The site looked very nice and tidy and well kept.
We stayed in the Hazel Heights section of the site which is at the top of the site and the pitches have hard standing there own water point and electric and have their own grassed area and a hedge round three sides of the pitch.
Although our caravan had a shower we both found the showers in the toilet block to be very tidy and clean. I have read the reviews on here about the toilets and showers and all I can say is that the ones they used (donkey paddock) must have been very different to the ones on Hazel Heights as ours was spotless and the showers were free and hot and very roomy.
The site does have a heated pool but due to the time of year and the weather we decided not to use it. It also has one of the most impressive information rooms iv ever seen on a site. The rolling hill are gorgeous round the site and the local town of appleby looks nice.
You can get a barrier card for £15 refundable so that you don't get your car locked out if you stay out past 9pm but even if you do they do provide you with a late arrivals carpark.
All in all the site was fantastic and for £9 a night you couldn't ask for anything more. We would certainly recommend this site for touring caravans we had a fantastic time and can safely say that we would come again.
