Just got back from a wonderful holiday in Scotland and while on Skye stayed on this campsite for one night (having been there many years before). The view takes some beating.
We appreciated the hard standing and hook-ups. The toilet block was clean but provision for chemical disposal would have been useful. We sited ourselves and the warden came in the evening to collect the fee.
Sligachan Hotel provided us with a very nice meal in the evening. The weather was good but cold enough for there not to be any midges (yet).

Stopped here for one night in Sept 2010. This had everything we needed for our trip. The campsite is flat.Tent pegs went into the ground fully, always a bonus! There is no hedge or fence around the site to speak of so you are fairly exposed to the weather elements. Fantasic views. The toilet block was fine.Clean. There is 3 outside sinks for washing dishes etc. Plenty of Hot water. The owner lives on site in a caravan and he will find you for the fee. There is a gravel track around the campsite and so your car shouldn't get stuck nor should you get muddy walking to the toilet block. The fee for us was £5 per person per night. There is a large hotel across the road with bar that serves good food. The bar is large and has log fires. No problems here basically. You can leave your car in the car park for free and walk right into the cullin mountains.

Camped here after a few days of quite heavy rain. Managed to find parts of the site that had dried out sufficiently.
The ground was reasonable with tent pegs needing a bit of persuasion to go in.
The facilities block was reasonable with warm showers, sinks etc. Kitchen sinks round the back for washing up.
There's a hotel just the other side of the road which servers good food and local beers. On our visit seemed to be full of campers.
The campsite is basic but it's clean and has great views out to see.
Not sure I'd like to stay there if windy as the site is quite exposed.

A mainly backpacker/climbers site. Get there early if you want to find that nice level pitch as it soon fills up. The bus passes right by the entrance so ideal for those on a walking holiday but don't forget your food as there's no shop on site. Although there is an inn just over the road that serves up a good meal at reasonable prices, also has a games room and playpark outside for the kids. Just turn up and pitch, the warden will come over either in the evening or morning to collect fees, £5pn for 1 person with 2 man tent and motorcycle. Toilet/shower block I found better than a lot I've been to and always clean with plenty hot water. A small laundry room next to the wardens office and plenty sinks round the back of the block for washing up. In all I will certainly be using this site again as I found it a great base to tour the island and beyond.

Dated but adequate facilities - gents in the process of being updated. This was the most basic campsite we used on our fortnights round Scotland trip. Very reasonably priced.
Isolated and windy location with only the Sligachan Hotel and the Cuillins across the road.
Very relaxed - pitch anywhere and friendly, helpful (thanks for use of washing line and pegs) warden who has a caravan on site will come and find you. Hard standing or grass. Level pitches
Midge repellent essential!

The is a handy stopover, possibly the first one you hit on Skye. Breathtaking mountains as a backdrop, this is a very basic, or rough, mainly back packers campsite, with no chemical toilet disposal.
No booking needed the chap just knocks on your door to collect. Campers pull up in a car park type area which has plenty of electric points.
Over the road the hotel is very nice and does food all day, portions are small but its nice enough (300 whiskies and internet).
The site is right on the road but the noise drops over night.
A reasonable stop over for me this one certainly not a holiday site! Its very basic and not that cheap at £14 with electric, herself wouldn't touch the showers but I survived OK. Hotel over the road makes this place a good stop over rather than anything it offers itself. Nothing else but a bus stop in the location (oh yes a micro brewery to).

In terms of location, you won't find a better campsite on Skye. It has a view of the sea and is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. However, if you go in the summer, take midge repellent as they are a problem here.
The site itself is fairly basic. There's a no booking policy, so you have to turn up and squash in if its busy, but this was not a problem at all, and was far less regimented than some of the commercial sites in Scotland. Facilities were adequate but very dated, but they charge far less than other places so we were happy with it.
Over the road is a nice pub, which does good food. Main courses were about £8-£10.

As other reviewers have said this is a fairly basic site but has everything you need and is surrounded by spectacular mountains. Friendly owner. Positioned in the middle of the island for easy access to all parts. Hotel opposite is very welcoming and has free wifi if you need it although I couldn't connect. We didn't eat there but the food looked good. Apart from its own beer it had 255 whiskies to choose from. Excellent Swimming pool etc at Portree only opened last year.

Stopped here one wet summers camping on skye. It is possible to wild camp for free in the very near area but if you need a shower and want to go to the local pub which is very good and nice food to its great. There is no protection from the wind what so ever. But the views make up for that is a great location.
There are toilets, showers, sinks, drinking water tap. Is basic stuff really.
I will be back at some point and would stay on this site again.

Nice site, in beautiful scenery. Weather good.
Wonderful walks mostly uphill, but when you get there the scenery is spectacular.
Good food in hotel bar, reasonably priced, hot and plenty of it after a full days walk.
Facilities clean, showers hot.
Good site.
