I'd passed this site a few times, and was aware of it's location - a hundred yards from a lovely sandy beach. Kids were the priority, and there was a good play area, plenty of room for them to play.
I wasn't dissappointed then when we arrived. The site is nice and clean, although the shower / toilet block needs modernising. It is also a bit of a hike to empty your waste water / toilet as there's only one waste point.
Pitches are excellent - plenty of room, and although it's a big site with the statics, it is basically separate.
The railway line is directly next to the campsite, but didn't really bother us.
You do pay extra for the location, and the large pitches but will probably return in the near future. Recommended.

We loved this site, it's level and the pitches are big enough for you not to worry about the neighbours. It's safe to just let the kids go and play,
The beach is 100yards away and a bank of sand along the shoreline ensures that the wind from cardigan bay doesn't blow you away
The toilets are dated but clean. The pool is great but you are better to stay and watch the kids yourself as the lifeguards are not much more than kids themselves,
The site shop has all the essentials plus buckets and spades!
The walk along the beach to Pwhelli is lovely and the train back brings you 200yards from the site,if the weathers not brill you can get a family day pass from the haven site up the road,
The town of Cricceth is nice and the kids loved the castle. All in all this site is great and we will be back!

We arrived not knowing what to expect as it was our first time camping, we have two children aged 2 and 5 and I had always said that I would Never Ever go camping but my husband managed to talk me into it so booked abererch sands after buying all the camping gear. I was dreading it, sleepless nights 4 a week before we went. When we arrived I was absoloutley gobsmacked, it was great we pitched the tent and got set up then went for a walk around, the beach is literally 30 seconds away and is really beautiful, ideal for our dog to run around. The park is great for all ages and everyone looks after each other plus all the kids get on really well together. The shop is basic but there is an Asda in Phwellli 2 miles down the road that sells absoloutely everything plus a chippy too. Didnt notice any pubs within walking distance im afraid. We did notice there is cctv around the site and also in the pool room which helped ease my mind alot, also there was a police car that came around now and again. The showers were very hot but its a shame there isnt anywhere to get dressed but I went into 1 of the toilets. There is 1 hairdryer socket which you might have to queue for and it also works with ghds or any straighteners really. I didnt want to go home I could have stayed a week but I dont have anywhere to compare it to, we are going back on Friday with two other families so I will write up what they think of it, If you enjoy fishing there are fishing shops where you can buy ro, reels, bait etc.

Previous recent reviews say it all. Just returned (Easter), Family (2 ad, 2 ch- 11 & 10 & Dog).
Lovely site. Spacious flat pitches. Nice childrens play area, although a little on small side if site was full. Constant hot water in showers and indoor dishwashing area. So close to the beach that you can hear the sound of the waves. Staff friendly and helpful. We were a little concerned that it was so close to the train track - but needn't have been, safe and never noticed the trains passing. Nice indoor pool - warm and clean.
Nice that dogs are allowed on beach and dog walking area - although could do with more poop bins.
Asda in Pwllheli (5 mins), large camping shop down towards Porthmadog (20 mins). Criccieth castle, beach (caught lots of dogfish) and town area (10 mins). Glasfryn Activity Centre (Quads, Go-karting, Archery, Bowling, fishing etc) well worth a visit (15 mins).
Will be visiting again soon.

We love this site.
We've been going for the last 4-5 years, we have been in Tents, Trailer Tents, Folding Campers, Caravans, and Motorhomes (Ok not all me, but the groups that we have been in have all consisted of them) So this is a good all round site that caters for everyone.
Just got back from our 3rd trip there this year and yet again had a great time. (Even though the facilities were closed, but what do you expect in mid October!)
As it's the end of the season it's not fair to base this review on this weekend so will review it from our August holiday instead.
Good play area for the kids, All done up for this year. Toilets and shower block all kept to a good standard and cleaned at least twice a day. Free Showers, Lots of hot water (so you don't stand there shivering if you shower at 12am) A few people have commented that sand builds up in the shower/toilets but I'v never noticed that (Although I always wear sandels) Dishwashing facilities (indoor) again with lots of hot water. The staff and owners are really friendly and very helpful (always willing to jumpstart flat batteries, or lend a hook up extention) The shop is reasonably well stocked, with lots of bits and bobs to keep the kids happy, and all the essentials. There is a gym, Pool room (although it's a bit old and battered, more of a meeting room for kids) There is also a snooker room (which I'v never seen, I'v heard it exists but never been able to find it, Very strange!) also the pool is a great way for the kids to burn off some energy, they must be supervised by an adult but it's nice to sit and read a book whilst they splash around. No deep end, it's the same depth all round (I think it's about 4 1/2 feet so young kids will need floatation aids regardless) and the comments about chlorine are all true so goggles are a must have item.
The railway line almost runs through the site which is great for getting into Pwllheli to the pubs and shops (trains run every 2 hours) but after you notice one go past you'll be hard pushed to notice any more so noise is not a problem (The trains all slow down as they go past the site and the only time I'v heard them sound their horn is when there are children waving at the drivers during the day) The beach is great, Sand dunes for the kids to jump off, sand and stones to help with sand castles and good fishing. We had Dogfish, Red Gurnard, Weavers (very rare, never seen them on the beach only caught them at about 40 Yards out but I make my kids wear sandles when in the water) and Mackrel. If you walk down the beach away from Pwlhelli you come to a headland (about an hours walk, even though you would never think that from looking at it) and this year there was a school of Dolphins which spent the full week we were there playing for the tourists. This isn't a very well publicised thing and we only stumbled across it by chance but this weekend they were still there but a bit harder to spot. The fishing during summer is good from the headland and this is where we had our most luck, only stopping when we could carry no more (we still have some in the freezer)
Back to the site!
There are plenty of hookups and taps dotted around the camping fields and it seems that it's normal for the owners to add a couple more most years, Only 1 Elsan point which is a shame for such a big site but it's not too unpleasant (Low level, so no lifting the waste container up high like some sites I'v been to!) Also there are clothes washing and drying facilities but not much so be prepared to wait till a quiet time or queue up. There are seperate areas for tourers and general fields for tents and tourers, no specified pitches so if there is a group of friends you can all get pitched together with no problems. (or if you want to be alone you can tuck into a corner out of the way)
The large field on the left (that another poster commented on) is for Caravan Club or organised events only and whilst it might seem silly to have the other fields full and this one empty it will often fill up overnight with organised meetings. There is a dog walking path along the back of the dunes and whilst dogs are meant to be kept on the lead at all times on the site it's common for them to be let off and run round on the path (this is suitably far away from the main camping area and I'v never seen any dog mess or lost dogs on the site itself)
The no ball games rule is sometimes ignored and the middle of the camping field is the ideal place for a game of football or cricket and whilst we have never had to ask people to be carefull I can see why others might.
Overall this site is perfect for families with pre-teenage or late teenage kids (as the older ones can go by train into Pwlhelli and entertain themselves, and the younger ones can have the run of the site)
Almost forgot! TV reception is only good with a tall mast (most people won't be bothered about this, but when you'r wife is addicted to Big Brother it's either take the telly or don't go on holiday!)

Only been once. Nice site. Nice people. Almost on the beach. Cant get bread from shop, not sure why. Other stuff available there. Keys used on toilet blocks. Nice pool, very clean too. Only one small problem, its alongside a train track. Good news is that its a very quiet track so not many trains at all and the ones we saw were going very slow as there is a station just down the road. You can walk to Pwhelli down the Beach. Will go again.Nice.

First time we went camping and we chose this site. Very close to a beautiful beach, excellent for the children. We could pop back to the tent for supplies etc. Working CCTV on the site. Children's park Hot powerful showers which are free Helpful staff when we had flat car battery. Very near town with asda, Woolworth and lots of others shops, as well as large camping store 20 minutes down the road. Swimming pool on site but we didn't use because the weather was great whilst we where there. I have read the other reviews about the toilets. They are basic but I have been in worse public toilets and it doesn't help when people leave the showers untidy.(empty bottles left behind) The site is sandy and the sand does tend to be walked into the shower/toilet block. They are cleaned on a regular basis and you are provided with a key to keep them secure. There was always toilet roll and always hot water. Have already booked to return next year. The site was fully booked whilst we where there, that is a very positive sign.

A good overall site, we have been twice, the showers and toilets are a bit dodgey, but the site is is a godsend for the beach access. Children's play area is good, and the nearest town not that far away. We will be returning this year again

Large, slightly run-down site, right by the most beautiful sandy bay. Well stocked shop and large, clean, cheap swimming pool. Easy access to lots of local attractions and close to local rail network (luckily not too noisy at night).
Unfortunately, the showers were very small, right by the main door to the toilet block (rendering one cubicle effectively unusable) and the dirtiest I have ever seen on a site! (and I have been camping since I was 6!) The drains were full of hair, scum and mold and some sort of orange slime was growing all over the walls, doors and floor. I complained and the showers were cleaned but they still were not what most people would call clean. A shame really because this could be a fantastic site if it were modernized and cleaned more thoroughly.
