Stayed here for 7 nights over Whit Week.
Wardens very helpful both when checking in and also during our stay. The site is very clean, toilet blocks immaculate. Only 3 showers but we used them in the evening when it was quiet.
Didn't try the fish and chips but can recommend the pizza delivery from pizzaworld. Shop on site sold the basics. Tesco Express in Strensall. Lots of supermarkets/shops at Monks Cross.
Lots to do in the surrounding area / York. Visited Eden Camp which was excellent value and really interesting (older children and adults). Visited Malton, very nice market town.
Can recommend this site.

Stayed here for the Whit bank holiday weekend for 3 nights - We usually stay on Caravan Club sites, and this was our first experience of a C&CC site.
We were warmly welcomed on arrival, and shown to our pitch by a friendly warden - The pitch was a Hard standing pitch with electric, very level, with Ample room for awning and car.
The site was full over the 3 days we were there, plenty of differing units, Tents, caravans, and motor homes.
There are only 3 showers each in the ladies and the gents washrooms - totally inadequate for a site of this size (100 pitches).
Site is handy for York (Park and ride) - and well situated for either coast or country, a fish and chip van visits several times a week, and you can have pizza's and curry's delivered to site if you want.
I think the site could do with a general update as things looked a little dated and tired (Compared to CC sites) - however everything was clean and tidy.
Overall a nice site, but there are far better ones in the vicinity

We were at Sheriff Hutton for 5 nights over the Royal Wedding Bank Holiday weekend. This site is lovely, in an ideal location for plenty of walking. I know the area quite well, and know it isn't too far to Monks Cross to be able to catch the Park and Ride into York City Centre if you wanted to.
We were on a grass pitch at the back of the campsite, which was on a slope, but no issues and away from the kids play area. The site got very busy over the weekend due to it being BH, but everything seemed to stay in order.
The shower / toilet block needs updating, and from talking to the site manager this should be done at the end of the season this year. We are fortunate that we tend to use our shower in the Caravan, but the in-laws were with us in their Trailer Tent and they were using the shower block. They had to wait several times, and because one of the showers wasn't working in the womens properly, the block was down to 2 showers for the whole of the site.
The furthest our car went over the 5 days was to the Tesco Extra at Clifton Moor.

An excellent site. The sister in law arrived 5 hours early and was still allowed on the site. This was good as she had kettle on when we arrived. The wardens ensured we were pitched together and assisted in unhooking and setting up after showing us directly to flat grass pitch which was very well maintained.
Checking in on arrival was very swift and dealt with in a friendly and helpful manner.
The chip van came round on the Saturday night, but I am afraid I cannot rave about the fish and chips,we found them over cooked with very thick crunchy batter. We only used the chip van the once.
Although not a lot on the site, the wardens will tell you everywhere to go (including the local Skeltons garage when there is a problem with the car)and are very helpful although always seen to be doing ground maintenance and cleaning.
The showers and toilet blocks were immaculate beyond belief.
It was a pleasure to stay and here and will return sometime in the not too distant future.
There is mention elsewhere in these reviews of the power cables which run across the edge of the site, these did not bother us but then we were a good 100 yards from them

Had a great visit to this site you really felt like you were getting away from it all.
Great base for the city of York or the east coast and north York moors.
Very friendly wardens and well kept site only downside bit of a walk to nearest pub but a mobile Fish & Chip van visited 4 nights a week and sold excellent food all cooked to order and very reasonably priced.
All in all super break in this little gem of a site.

A friendly welcome. Shown to a pitch which wasn't as regimented as some other c & cc sites we have been on. One electric point all to ourselves. Site was clean and tidy, well set out.
Only the one field so not too far from anything. Toilets were always lovely and clean, 3 showers in the ladys, queues formed at busy times but we just avoided the busy times. When they shut for cleaning, they opened the disabled loo for everyone to use.
We used the site as a base, and enjoyed days out in scarborough, whitby and the moors. Also spent two days in york using monks cross park and ride. £2.30 and adult and up to 2 children travelled free with each adult. That included your parking. It was 9 miles away from the site.
We used the tesco express in strensall about ten mins away which stayed open till ten at night. The baker came round when we were there, although we didn't use him.
The fish and chip van called 4 nights a wk, sat, mon, weds and fri. £4.50 for fish and chips and other things such as sausage and chips was £3.50, and very nice it was too! Freezer pack service available if your eleccy coolbox should fail like ours did! Would definitely use this site again!

Nice little site this with good toilet block and very friendly staff. For all you dog owners there are no dog walks directly from site as all the land surrounding is private farm land.
Having said that this is a great base from which to visit all the local attractions. Flamingo Land, Eden Camp, North Yorkshire Air Museum and York City just to name a few are all within a short drive.
Nearest pubs are a 10 min drive but have good food and real ales and there is a Tesco in the next village for supplies and also visit the farm shop down the road it's excellent.

We wanted to go further north in 2010, and York with all its heritage was calling our names.
Sheriff Hutton is a great base to visit York and the surrounding area.
Faculties are great, very clean.
There is plenty of room on site, you wont be falling over each other.
It did rain, quite a lot, whilst we were there. But what's camping without getting a little wet.
With the National Railway Museum, Eden Camp, Y/Jorvik Centre that's 3 full days already.
Getting into York is easy too. Park and Ride is only 20 minutes away, and is very cheap.
Visit The Shambles in the heart of York. Loads of little odd shops in this 14th Century street. Find the Sausage shop ASAP, you will not regret it!

Stayed on this C&CC site for three nights. The two of us are members and we took our tent. We didn't opt for electric hook-up. As members we paid £18 per night for the two of us.
Check-in was friendly, quick and efficient. Shown to our pitch straight away, which was close to the middle of the central grass area bordered by the circular access track and overlooking the children's play area.
Being a weekend in the school holidays the site was busy so it was standard C&CC practice to be regimented pitching, leaving 6m between you and the next pitch. There was room for just one more row infront of us, say five units maximum.
The site itself is standard C&CC Club Site. No noise after 11pm. The access barrier is closed between 11pm and 7am. They don't allow the freezing of your own ice packs. There is a deposit to pay to rent theirs and then the charges are 50p per ice pack per freeze The reception stocks basics and is closed when the team are cleaning the facilities.
Adjacent to reception is an information area with maps, leaflets, details of what's in the locality and in this site's instance, how to reach the Park and Ride into York and when the Fish and Chip van and baker visits.
There is just the one facility block. Can't speak for the Ladies but the Gents comprises three toilets, seven basins (two of which are in separate lock-up cubicles either side of the toilets) and three showers. It's not a lot of provision particularly when the site is busy. If you factor in that they are closed between 10.30am-12.00pm for cleaning, you can expect to queue if the site is busy.
There is a laundry and washing up area attached to the facility block. I couldn't quite fathom why they were locked at 10.00pm though. There are two rotary clothes lines outside to dry your laundry.
There isn't much else in terms of facilities on the site apart from two rubbish and water point enclosures, the children's play area (the swings were fixed) and a dog walking area.
The lack of toilet/shower facilities if it's busy and the odd closing times of the laundry and washing-up areas notwithstanding, we had no criticisms of the site. It was tidy and well looked after, the facility block was always very clean, the staff were friendly and the grass areas were well maintained.
Traffic noise from the main road didn't bother us although the speed at which some people travel on it maybe a cause for concern. Ambient noise from sheep and birds is what you expect from such a setting.
Away from the site, there's a Tesco Express 10 minutes drive away in Strensall, which also has a chemist, post office and pubs. Sheriff Hutton, even closer is worth a visit and so is the pub. Further afield and no more than 15-20 minutes drive, is Monks Bar on the outskirts of York. This is a major retail park including Sainsbury's and Asda (24 hours) plus it's also a Park and Ride. Pretty good value for trips into York at £2.30 per person for the return bus journey and free parking.
All told, a decent no frills site in a good location with easy access to York, Howardian Hills, North Yorks National Park and onward to the East Coast. However, it's expensive for what it is and does need extra toilet/shower facilities.

Just returned from a beautiful weekend at this site. We were shown to a nice level pitch by a friendly site warden. The toilets are very clean, and not too far from any of the pitches as the site is not huge.
There are a couple of water and rubbish points, and the bins are emptied regularly. There is a small play area in the middle of the site, which seemed to be adequate for the number of children we saw on site.
The best bit - complete silence on site by 10.30 at night!
All in all a good weekend.
