We visited this campsite at the weekend. It was our very first trip so I haven't anything to compare it to but will tell you what we thought anyway. Warden very friendly and we were ok to pitch anywhere we wanted really. He also gave us good advice about which way to position the tent to avoid the wind. The children's playground was very basic and as mentioned in other reviews, the swings were broken and that just left a slide.
The toilet block was very close to where we were and was clean and warm during our trip. Closed for cleaning between 10.30 and 12 noon which could have been a problem had we not taken a potty! On Friday night the bakers van and the fish and chip van called at around 7p.M and again the fish and chips on Saturday at the same time. There was quite a lot of noise from the nearby sheep through the night (which scared my little one, aged 3 on the first night) but you soon get used to that and he slept fine the next night. We took a trip to York on Saturday which was 15 mins away in the car but there are park and rides available nearby also.
All in all we liked it here and would probably go back.

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend in a tent with no ehu.
The site is on a main road, but don't let this put you off, there is 'road noise' but you don't really notice it.
As mentioned previously, the site is next to a sheep farm, again, the noise wasn't a problem, it added to the factor of being in the country.
Wardens were great with us, we were able to put our tent in any way we wanted, as long as it was 'in this sort of area' which was fantastic, made us feel relaxed from the start, as in comparison to other sites which are very regimented.
Facilities were good and always clean. There is a hairdryer in the mens and womens toilet blocks (20p).
Didn't get to use the shop as it wasn't open when we were on site, as we left early in the morning and not back until later in eve. There is a Tesco express a couple of miles down the road if the shop wasn't open.
The fish and chip van that comes a few times a week was worth a visit!
Monks Cross Park and Ride is only 10/15 minute drive from the site, which is great for getting into York centre. Also, the site is in a great location for other main attractions.
Will be back next time we visit York!

Went over the bank holiday weekend (fri-mon), site busy but not squashed in. Got to be 6mt apart after all.
Site wardens seem abrupt on first meeting but mellow after a while.
No opening times at the site reception / shop so catching someone in is a bit of pot luck!
Childrens playground very compact and at the time we went consisted of a slide, bit of climbing equipment and some broken swings.
Toilet block clean but basic - for the price they're charging per night it should be better (& warmer). They are also closed for cleaning between 10.30 and 12.00 each day (ladies & gents) leaving only the one disabled toilet available for everyone to use.
Site electrics need updating. Entire site tripped off at least twice whilst we were there.
Noisy birds and sheep (but it is in the country so you do sort of expect it) and also noise from the fast moving traffic directly next to the site can be a tad annoying.
Fish and chip van calls 4 nights a week, along with a bakers van which can be quite convenient.
Nearest village is Sherrif Hutton which is really a car drive away as the verges aren't the best for walking on - The Highwayman pub is worth a visit and serves decent food.
Plenty of attractions within a 30 minute drive so you won't get bored.
Site overall was fairly well kept, with tidy grass and hard standing areas, the roadway within the site could've been better though with large, badly repaired potholes - just needs a little tlc.
We would probably use the site again.

We stayed at this C&CC club site from Friday 2nd April for three days.
The weather had not been very good for the previous week but it was ok when we arrived, however the ground was soaked and we were pitched at the bottom of a slight incline. Over the next two days the area around us was filled up with other caravans, and despite people getting stuck up to their axles, the warden just kept piling them in. When we came to leave on Sunday we had to pick our way around 3 other caravans because there was only one 'escape route'. The alternative way out was completely blocked because an unfortunate caravanner was stuck.
We were helped by three other members to extricate ourselves and in spite of having a 4 wheel drive vehicle, we had to assist it by pushing the caravan out of the quagmire.
As to the site itself, the toilet block was immaculately clean although it was very cold inside, and access to the site was good. The wardens were friendly enough, but I do think that some thought should be given to the conditions under foot before cramming quite as many vans in.

Lovely small spacious site with friendly helpful staff. Toilet and shower block clean and warm, showers big with plenty of room to dress in the dry. Good central play area where you could see the kids all the time and also they were able to scooter/cycle round the site.
Local walks and a very nice pub a short drive up the road.
Very easy access to York especially if you used the park and rides which were just down the road, as were several large stores and a choice of supermarkets.
Will definitely be going back.

Went for a weekend (Friday afternoon to Sunday morning). Two adults and two children (6 and 8 yrs). Its a small site. Good facilities and we liked the layout. Staff were friendly and helpful.
We had pre booked hardstanding with electric and on arrival were given the option of a few pitches, but to be honest all were equally as good as one another. Plenty of room, hook up close, pitch flat. Spot on.
Toilets and showers were clean. Showers were always nice and warm.
The kids loved the site and we liked the fact we could (literally) always see them due to the layout with the play area central. A big plus for us as we like them to have some freedom (within reason) where its possible. We found the site very child friendly.
We drove to Monks Cross Park and Ride (about 15 mins away) and got the free bus into York. Had a great sunny day there - then a nice relaxed evening on the site.
The reception has lots of literature, bus timetables and a few bits for sale. There is a village just down the road with a decent shop and pubs. The road the site is on looked to be a popular cycling route.
We all enjoyed our stay and will def be going back for another weekend before the end of the year.

A lovely little site!
Everything was spotless - nice shower/toilet blocks, lovely planted areas etc.
This was our 1st outing & the staff were great in giving us a pitch easy to get onto & helping us get positioned etc.
The playground is right in the middle & can be seen from pretty much every pitch so the kids can play & you can keep an eye on them.
The only downside was the dog walking area - a very small 'paddock' for them to do their duties but no room to exercise & no walks directly off the site.
This didn't bother us too much as we were out & about & the dog was shattered anyway!
Would definitely go back there - made for a perfect 1st experience for us.

This is a very nice site, the facilities are kept very clean and the staff are very helpful.
We took the Park and Ride in to York and had a very exhausting day. Unfortunately we could not do much more sight seeing as the night before we arrived there was heavy rain at our previous site and we had to spend some time drying out our equipment.

We visited this site over the Holiday weekend just gone in our new caravan.
Nice Site - The Managers were very good.
Toilets and Showers spotless, showers were hot but water flow was poor.
Fish and Chip van comes to the site, and they are well worth having.
The site was nice and quiet.

First outing this year took us to this site, we came away with mixed emotions. On the plus side of things the site was as is always with the camping and caravan club sites, immaculate, the shower blocks were spotless, the staff were excellent and very helpful and the chip van and bakers were very good.
The down side is as others have wrote it is in the middle of nowhere, Sheriff Huton is two miles away and Strensall was 4 miles the other direction with no decent footpath.
Don't know if it was the time we went but in the field behind us there was a rookery that came to life every morning at 4.30am and didn't stop all day (don't know if it would be same if you were in a caravan)
All in all we had a good break but the lack of walks and amenities near by means we wont be returning in the near future.
