This campsite is fab! Owners very friendly but stay away but are always a knock at the farmhouse away, it is quite and peaceful, lush green, soft grass and ground I didn't use my hammer. It has a converted out house one side is a toilet and sink cold tap only, the other a pot washing with 2 sinks and a converted electric shower unit on the wall with no shower head that produces hot water to wash your pots up. There are portaloos 2 by farmhouse and a portable shower block with 2 showers went in to have one but you need 50pence coins which I didn't so, went and had all over refreshing cold wash in toilet which was quite refreshing as we'd done part 2&3 of peaks. The views around when weather is clear are great Pen-y-Ghent in the back drop, there are 4 fields to choose from last field at the bottom which had all the caravans it had a portaloo unit, all fields are a very big size so you can pick anywhere there are slopes but the fields are big so flat spots are never a shortage. Its a 15-20min stroll along road or field to Horton.
Its basic camping and not for everyone if your a glamper, but its made up for the beauty of its position. Its by the river so midges were present so a hat or hood is a must and Avon so soft dry oil spray a plenty coz we forgot it and got bit, but that won't put us off from going again.
We had a group of 5 tents with 20 odd yrs old for one night whom we're noisy for a couple of hours till midnight ( why do these people come camping go stay in a travelodge and great drunk elsewhere) but upon speaking to the farmers wife in the morning whom said we should have knocked at midnight! Which we didn't, she told her husband and within 5minutes he told them to pack up and leave at 8am! Ha!
If you go turn left or right by Horton station and after 400-500 yds go left at the fork in the road as right under a tight bridge takes you into Hansons quarry! At £3 per person a night its a steal We will return as it suits us and is far by one of the best sites we, ve stayed at in the area.

Great little camp site with friendly owners, hidden away just out of village. Only three toilets on top field (one permanent and two portaloos)but were very clean. There was another block of portaloos further down site but I did not visit them. Free hot water in wash up area but showers were expensive(50p for less than 2 mins) and erratic hot/cold.
Nice 20 min walk to village over bridge and across fields. Great views of Pen-Y-Ghent and an occasional steam train passing on train line along side site, other trains on line weren`t a problem to us.
Overall we thought it was a good basic site at a bargaiun price, £3. 00 person per night! We would certainly go back again when we are in the area

This is a great site if you're looking for somewhere quiet and off the beaten path. There were three large fields to choose from, two flat and one on a slope and although it have been raining heavily for some time the ground was still well drained.
Facilities are minimal but clear. Views are amazing (assuming the cloud lifts long enough)
The access road is very narrow and there are only few passing places.
The other sites in Horton get busy and noisy, give them a miss if you want to avoid the crowds. There is a footpath into town so an nice easy walk.

This is a small site hidden behind the village in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, on a working sheep farm. It's run by the family, principally the wife, and our welcome was friendly and efficient. There's a relaxed air about the place, summed up by the fact that we were invited to get our tents up before worrying about payment, etc.
The main site in Horton is in the village just off the main road through the village but this site is a hidden gem - basic, yes, but away from the 'bustle' of traffic, walkers and campers in the main village.
Facilities are on the basic side - there's a toilet and a washroom, with hot water. There is also a portable shower block in the main field, but at 50p for 2 minutes of unreliable warm/cold/hot water flow it's not popular.
The camping fields are close to the Settle-Carlisle railway line, so passing trains are a regular distraction - the highlight is the occasional steam locomotive pulling 'Harry Potteresque' carriages! This didn't bother us, and the timetable means there's nothing using the line after 22:00hrs in the evening.
There are stunning views to Pen-y-Ghent (one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks) from the camping area and you can use public footpaths from the site to the village, across the river and adjoining fields, and be in the village in 15-20 minutes.
There are adequate water points in teh fields.
The one thing lacking (aside of sufficient and suitable showers)is the possibility for electric hook-up, which would make all the difference.
In terms of cost, this is one of the cheapest sites I've stayed on.
I will definitely return again. Maybe next time with the possibility of electric hook-up and a decent shower!

A cracking little campsite. A couple of us were backpacking and were the only people there apart from 2 people in a caravan when we camped here for one Friday night.
Facilities are basic as the other reviews have stated, but they are very clean and looked after. Note there is no shower, but hot water is available. You can't go wrong at £3 per person.
I've also camped at the other well known campsite in Horton quite a few times, it is generally always busy at weekends with 3 Peakers and can get a bit rowdy.
Crag Hill does have the trains quite close, but they stop around 10pm ish and start at 7am ish, which was fine for me. The Farmer had a sign up allowing you to BBQ so long as it is raised off the ground.
If you wanted to go for a drink, I would walk 20mins the other way to Helwith Bridge where the pub is better than in Horton with definitely more unique local character and atmosphere.

I stayed here for 2 nights, and was happy with the site overall, the owners were friendly and made me feel welcome.
It's a basic site tucked away from the main road down a narrow lane it can be tricky to find without a walkers map.
At £3 per night I could not complain.
The facilities although basic were perfectly clean and of a good standard with 3 multi gender toilets,
With sink and cold tap.
I did not explore the village much, did not notice any shops at all, had a couple of pints in the crown which was nice which is the closest pub to the campsite being about a 15 minute walk along the river Ribble.

We selected this camp site as a 'base' for a 3 Peaks attempt one weekend in late August.
It's about a 15-20 minute walk on from the other well known camp site in Horton, which is next to the pub.
But in my opinion, it's well worth it.
It's still only £3 per person per night. However, the facilities seem to have been somewhat upgraded judging by other reviews.
There are three toilets, one in a little stone outhouse and two more temporary looking ones. I must say that before using the temporary ones, I did brace myself for something like Festival toilets but they far exceeded expectations and were all very very clean with proper fittings and a wash basin - and even antibacterial handwash.
Okay, so there are still no showers. But in the wash house there are two sinks and a shower attachment that gives you nice hot water on demand. This allows you to have a perfectly good wash in a morning or after a long walk, and for a day or two, you don't really miss the showers! But if you're shy about standing in your underwear having a wash, perhaps this site isn't for you.
We only had two small one man tents and so pitched them in the field nearest to the farm. We had no trouble finding a flat pitch. We shared the field with a group of D of E teenagers and also a younger family who were a bit noisier at night but nothing to worry about (especially with ear plugs in).
There was also another larger field a bit further away which was sloping at the top near the wall (offering good shelter though) and flat at the bottom near the river. Given all the recent rain, the flat bit looked a bit wet, but a few people were camped there perfectly happily. There were midges around, but wearing repellent, I only picked up a few bites.
In total, we shared the site with about 10/12 other people during a warm and fine August weekend,
The 'hooting' trains generally stopped about 9pm or 10pm and on Sunday they don't start until about 11am, so it's not big deal.
Overall, a great basic site, with great views of the hills and in a nice peaceful setting, away from any main roads.

Easy to find down a track, I was offered a small field near the farmhouse without sheep droppings or use of the two larger fields which had sheep in them, choose the smaller field.
Basic, but clean toilets and wash room very near. 15 minute walk to nearby village, two pubs, shop and cafe. First pub, the Crown, small but friendly pub serving food and a choice of well kept ales. Nice! Second pub, Golden Lion, larger sized pub next to a busy camp site, not so welcoming with an unfriendly landloard, certainly will not go back to that pub!
However this did not spoil the weekend, local train station and 5 minutes away was Settle, small town with some great eateries and watering holes. All in all, a great weekend in a discreet campsite, with one nice pub nearby and many more a few minutes away by train / car.

Stayed just the one night, and arrived about lunchtime Saturday. Was pleasantly surprised (as it as school holiday time) as to how much space there was, as the other site was full. So pleased it was. We pitched our tent, had lunch and set off up Pen-y-ghent on a glorious July day. The walk from this campsite to the start of the walk isn't too far, across a field and a couple of footbridges into the village, even though arriving at the campsite by car seems a distance from the village itself.
We came back via the Golden Lion pub-we had a good pint of Black Sheep there-and had our meal sitting outside the tent, taking in the view of Pen-y-ghent as the sun set. Others were enjoying BBQs. There were only about a dozen or so tents/caravans here.
There were some people intent on playing music until fairly late, and another couple who were loudly talking and singing in their own tent, which carried quite a way, until about 1.30am, but otherwise a fairly good nights sleep. We were in the middle field, at the top of the slope, but didn't feel as if we were sliding down. There were a few sheep droppings to avoid when pitching your tent, especially when it rained the next day, and they became quite soft too.
The facilities were basic, but if you are just planning a nights stay, they are clean and adequate-toilets, sinks-no hot water though nor showers. If you are only planning a nights stay or so, this is a perfect place. For what facilities there are, and the amount of space we had, with the ability to park next to your tent, the price was very reasonable. I would stay again.

We have visited this campsite several times now, we first discovered it when the main campsite in the village was full(which, incedentally is fab!)and were directed there by the proprietor of the main campsite in Horton.
If you dont mind basic facilities, as mentioned in other reviews, then I couldn't reccommend this place highly enough.
Our idea of going camping is not to stay at a campsite with more facilities than my local town, the idea is to get away from the hub of life and soak up a bit of fresh air, have fun down by the river with the kids and relax in stunning surroundings. This is exactly what you get. The owners are lovely and leave you to get on with your stay, and at £3.00 per adult and £2.OO per child then I dont think you could complain. There is a lovely short walk along the riverside into the village and all the local hostelries are pleasant. We will return on a regular basis. Need I say more?
