Arrived on site 11am booking in was smooth and straightforward. We could pitch anywhere in the tent field there was plenty of room.
Facilities
Tea room / shop, children's play area both outdoor and indoor, pub just outside the main entrance so as good as on site, electric hook up,toilets /showers. We never used the facilities because we had no children with us and we went into Whitby (only about 3 miles away) a 5-10 minute drive but the facilities seemed perfectly fine judging by other campers.
Surrounding area
An ideal base for Whitby (see above)or for North Yorkshire's attractive places ie York, Flamingo land, Scarborough, Lightwater valley etc.
The only slight criticism being the ground was sloping and uneven in a few places having said that I would definitely return to this site in the future.
Ps a very reasonable price to stay at this site

We stayed in a tent with electric
Good points:
Campsite good value for money @12 per tent for 3 people non electric
£17 tent for 4 with electric
Within 4 miles of whitby
Ice cream parlour and cafe on site
Pub just outside the site which does food
Quiet site
Small park for the young kids
Small bouncy castles for younger children
Sea view
Dont mind bbqs
Was not affected by the easterly wind
Negative points:
Only 2 showers per male and female.
Only 1 sink was washin your face in.
Not the prettiest of campsites
Owners were rude to our children when asking for directions for the electric hook up
Most pitches are on a slope
Overall a good campsite in close vancinity to whitby 7 out of 10 we will go back

Having just recently visited Beacon farm I must say this is a little Gem of a campsite not a huge site by some standards but a nice size for peaceful relaxing with a great tea room attached to the working farm where they make there own ice cream.
We found the showers clean but a little temperamental at times 20p for 3mins. The campsite is split by a small park central to two camping areas. The left hand side is longer and thinner and pitching is on a slight slope, the other area is more squarer and flatter.
The site is about 5 mins drive from Whitby town centre where there are a couple of small supermarkets. All in all a good little site and happy to recommend to others wanting to stay in or around Whitby. The owners we found to be friendly and around the tea room external area were provided some toy tractors & play sheds to entertain little ones. NB be careful when ordering ice cream it tastes great however it can be quite expensive

Just returned home from 4 nights at Beacon Farm. We didn't decide to go until 4.30 so were late in arriving and after reception had closed. However this wasn't a problem we were welcomed and quickly booked in.
The weather was fantastic and made the view down to the Abbey wonderful. We have 3 children ranging from 8 to 11 and they all loved the site. A small but adequate play area kept them entertained until sun set and they made plenty of new friends.
Everywhere we went there was Beacon Farm ice cream for sale and the tea room was a welcome site when the heavens opened. We ate at the pub one evening which is a stones throw from the site, children are not permitted in the main bar area but there is a family room with pool table and games to keep them amused.
The site has 2 toilets and 2 showers for each sex and whilst not 5* they are cleaned daily and kept clean.
This was our first visit to the site but certainly not our last.

We had a fabulous time - as a family of 4, with the youngest being only just 2, we struggled to find somewhere to meet all our needs, but Beacon Farm did just that.
The owner was friendly on the phone when booking, and then friendly on arrival, and helpful despite being obviously very busy.
The site was lovely - a large field for tents, with a playground towards the middle. The one criticism is that most of the site (including where we ended up pitching) is on a slope. The flat pitches were all gone!
The views from the tent field are amazing from the top - straight across to Whitby Abbey, with beautiful countryside around.
The playground is a good size with things to suit different ages. There is also plenty of room for ball games etc. The toilets were clean and well kept, with 2 showers each for ladies and men, and a shared washing up area.
In addition to the camping facilities there is a lovely ice cream parlour and tea room - the farm actually produces ice cream which can be bought all over, and is lovely after you've finished pitching your tent on a hot day. The tea room has a large outdoor area where children can entertain themselves while you have a drink and something to eat. They also sell a small range of gifts and souvenirs. We didn't use the on site farm shop, but that is also there. The full English breakfast from the tea room on the second morning went down very well and was good value at £3.95.
There is a pub just outside the campsite grounds, but we didn't try it. It is a 5 min (or less) drive to the nearest small town with supermarket, and only 10 minutes drive into Whitby itself.
All in all I would say this is a great family campsite. We will return again if in the area.

Good basic site, lovely views. I liked the fact that the pitches weren't marked so tent orientation was up to us - there were 3 families of us meeting up, and that was handy.
We were next to the play area and there were the usual groups of children hanging around at dusk, but they were no bother. It's a site more suited to younger children than teenagers.
Teashop and site shop were adequately stocked with the essentials and by and large staff were friendly.
Showers/toilets still limited. I have read the reviews from 2007/08 and there seems to have been no significant upgrade.
It's still a working farm and ice-creamery, so the farm yard bit you have to drive through is well covered in working vehicles, but only to be expected.
We had a small problem with the bookings though, arriving over 2 days, and with different names. The paper-based bookings sytem didn't seem able to cope and for a while there was a question about whether or not we had paid.

We tend to stay on a lot of farms and Beacon farm certainly did not let us down. We arrived on the first day at around 10am, there was around a dozen caravans in the caravan field and in the tent field only one trailer tent.
There are no marked pitches its basically a well kept field. Initially when setting up we realised the closest you can get to the electric hook up point was approximately 20 mtrs away, however this never concluded into a problem as the owners had hook-up extension leads to lend out.
As there was no marked pitches we could pitch both tents facing each other which we enjoyed. Toilet blocks clean and tidy, 2 showers for men and the same for women.
On site cafe / ice cream parlour. Very reasonable prices and had breakfast here both mornings. Site owners very friendly and cant do enough for you.
From the tent field there is fantastic views across whitby and whitby abbey and you can see as far out to sea as possible. There is also a walk into whitby which takes around 1 hour, taking you through forests and over streams eventually ending up on the dis-used railway line leading you into whitby.
Next door to the site is a pub we didn't eat here but was told the food was good.
All in all we would certainly recommend beacon farm. We will definitely return ourselves.

We stayed here in Aug. We have been before and will go again, we love it, friendly little site, could be a bit tidier at the top. We like the closeness to Whitby, never had a bad holiday here. The toilets are clean and showers are too. It is quiet which means alot to us. The tea rooms on site and the little shop are very handy and the people who own it are very helpful. The tents are in seperate field to caravans, which works well. Small playground for kids, and a pub next door, what more could you want.

A disappointing site for us as facilities were somewhat lacking - only 2 toilets and 2 showers for each sex. Handbasins in toilet cubicles leading to long queues especially in the morning. Showers soon got very muddy and nowhere clean to stand or places to hang your clothes. Quite a walk from the bottom field to the toilets/showers.
We arrived during a rain shower and the field soon got extremely muddy. Fellow campers had to push our car out of the mud!
Good playground for children - but again very muddy. Inside play area for children when tea rooms open - but dark and a little run down/unsafe (bouncy castle plug kept coming out - wires hanging down).
Lovely views of the Abbey. Pub close by - though check opening times. Basic provisions in campsite shop.
We felt that there was a conflict of interests with this site - nice tea room/ice cream parlour with a camp site added on as an after thought.

Just got back from three nights camping at this site in our tent with our 9 month old son. It was his second time camping and he loved it!
The site was everything we needed for a short break away. Cheap and cheerful. It was relatively easy to find and had a superb view of Whitby and the Abbey. On arrival we were a little concerned about the facilities in comparison to the size of the site, 2 toilets and 2 showers in the ladies and the same in the mens, however not once did we have to queue for the showers. The facilities are basic and require a 20pence piece for the showers but they were lovely and hot. One of the toilets in the ladies has a baby change table and I think there was also one in the mens. Great thinking guys.
Spoke to the site owners who advised that they are hoping to upgrade the facilities at some point soon and have hair dryers that they intend to fit. The only downside of the facilities was that there are only 4 electrical hookups for caravans and no plugs in the shower/toilet block. There are 2 sinks for washing up in a room which are clean and again didn't have to queue for.
It was very windy one night that we were there and rained quite heavy for a night and a morning. This left the fields very boggy and the play area flooded - well more of a mud bath! Some people seemed to have trouble getting cars off of the site because of the mud.
Great little shop with friendly and helpful staff. Didn't use the tea rooms but I believe they will cook breakfast if pre-ordered.
The location is great - 10 minute drive into Whitby and half an hour into Scarborough.
Both towns have loads to do and lovely beaches around and about. Great fish and chip shops in Whitby! Good shopping in Scarborough as well as loads of seaside touristy things to do.
A bit disappointed with the Sea life centre at Scarborough - very expensive to park, expensive to get in, not pram or wheelchair friendly at all (had to carry pram up and downstairs) and even the old folk were complaining and finding it difficult. Baby change room dirty and bins overflowing and that was only midday. Cafe was so busy we had to sit outside in the rain to feed our son and no high chairs! Also we were a bit frustrated at the Abbey as it was a very wet and blustery day so decided to drive up rather than subject son to backpack and walk up. The parking was £1.50 for an hour (!) and £5 to enter the Abbey. We gave it a miss.
We did have a great few days and we were sad to pack up and come home. We will definitely return to the site as we love the area and it had all we needed. Highly recommended!
