We are a family of four with two young girls (5 yrs old).

We stayed at the Street Head Caravan Park for a single night during a recent visit to the Leyburn area to visit the Forbidden Corner.

We are very new to camping as a family.

We thought the site was lovely. As other reviewers have said the bottom field (where we pitched) does slope considerably but the effect can be negated by careful placement of you tent!

The area around the site is truly beautiful and it was lovely to go to sleep hearing the sheep in the nearby field and the occasion owl.

The facilities on site are basic but perfectly functional. During our short stay the toilet/shower facilities were spotless and the floor always clean and dry despite the weather being wet.

Although there are no children's play facilities our girls loved the open spaces and exploring the area around the site.

I can sincerely recommend a stay at the Street Head Caravan Park to anyone.

We have just spent two nights at this site. We thought it was a great site. We arrived Friday and the site office was closed with just a sign telling you to go and pitch.

As we don't have ECU we were in the bottom field that does slope, however it wasn't a problem. We pitched near the top of the field, the further down you went the more it seemed to slope. You don't have to book for this field and there was plenty of room. If we had wanted electric we would have been in the field above which appeared to me to be very cramped.

The toilets were spotlessly clean although a little basic. Not much room for your stuff if you only wanted to have a wash.

My husband liked this site for the lovely walks he was able to go on with our dog.

Unfortunately on Saturday it rained, and rained! We drove into Leyburn which looks a nice place, but to be honest we only went to the co op because it was pouring down!

We did go to to the pub on Saturday night, which was really nice, we didn't eat but the food smelt and looked nice. It was a bonus for us that dogs were allowed in the top end of the pub away from where people were eating.

The only down thing I could find about this site was the midgys on a night, I would take something for this another time as they were really annoying. But that isn't the campsites fault!

We will return to the site again, but would just hope for better weather

Units were placed too close together, (August Bank Holiday weekend), we came back on Friday PM to find a caravan sited 3 feet from our awning. We felt we had no privacy.

The site owners were very helpful with towing cars off the sloping site, which was very muddy due to excessive rain. Several inconsiderate campers did not clear up after their dogs.

Toilet & shower facilities, though clean to start with were soon messed up, and not enough loos or showers for the number of people using the site. Friday PM no hot water available, and one shower out of two not working in Gents. By Monday morning there was no toilet paper in gents, and no sign of owners to report this to.

Electricity kept going off, this could have been due to weather or some campers tripping switches. Very annoying, especially when off for some 4 hours or more on Sunday night, considering the cost.

If you do go, take some chocks etc. To level your 'van.

There is no obvious facilities for children, toilets & showers are a long uphill walk from camping field.

The area itself is magnificent, with splendid views and scenery, cute villages and some challenging roads. I will visit Wensleydale many more times, but I cannot recommend this site.

Just spent the weekend on this site, the weather was fantastic, we had a great time. There were some down points though I'd like to make people aware of.

We have 2 small dogs, and the pitches with electric are right by the gate onto the road, so dogs have to be tethered at all times.

There is a lovely pub at the entrance to the site, which allows dogs, but we couldn't believe it when we went for an afternoon drink to get out of the sun, to find it closed 2-6. 30.

Also the showers had no 'dry' area to get dressed in, you were standing in a puddle. Apart from that, it's a lovely site with great views.

Aysgarth falls are lovely, and Hawes is a beautiful town well worth a visit.

The campsite was great, owners very welcoming and helpful. The site was on a slope and it was pouring down when we arrived, so not such a good start, but after a very nice meal in the in the pub adjoining the campsite we had dried out.

The campsite was lovely and quiet at night so we could all get a decent sleep, and on our last day we weren't rushed off or told we had to be out by a certain time which was a welcome change.

The showers and toilets could probably do with a bit of sprucing up but they were clean and tidy and there was plenty of hot water.

We would definitely return to this campsite, there's loads to do in the area and it's one of the best we've stayed at.

If I could make a recommendation it would be that the site could be enhanced by the addition of a children's play area.

Lovely little site with very friendly, helpful owners.

Yes the site does slope but most people will overcome this.

The showers have plenty of hot water although could do with more hooks I guess, a mop is provided to clean up any water and people did use it, so they were never dirty whilst we stayed there.

Don't let your grey water get too full though as it's all up hill to empty it out! (Had to get the other half to sort it).

The fantastic views and excellent walks make this site perfect for those who like to get out and about.

The pub close by is an added bonus.

Kids of 10 and 9 yrs both loved it.

Will definitely be returning here.

We Visited Street Head with little expectations and before I start I would like to say overall we had a good weekend.

£14. 50 per night with electric hook up

1. Toilet/shower block although was cleaned was far from being clean. My better half thought it would be cleaner to dodge the showers completely.

20p got you enough time but unfortunately the pressure was extremely low despite me being the only one in the block and the temperature was very difficult to set. 2 showers each in male and female blocks.

2. Pitch was on a hill, quite a steep hill, whilst looking for our pitch we nearly got stuck in the touring field, the grass was wet though. The views however are really worth seeing flanked either side by sprawling hilly countryside. The site is made up mostly of static caravans which looked well looked after.

3. The washing facilities were not very good. Again low pressure with a push to operate tap meant it could take 20mins to fill a sink. Better off boiling the kettle. We never used the laundry room which had coin operated washer, dryer and iron

4. The owners seemed really nice and we were informed whenever there was bad weather they would dutifully tow people from the touring field if stuck.

5. Street Head Inn was fantastic, food was really nice (steak 16. 95 - steak and ale pie 10. 95), pint of fosters 3. 00, the staff were chatty and the bar, games room was always busy.

There was also a small pub in the neighbouring village well within walking distance called the George Inn. They serve food but we never had any, pints again were £3 and the staff were very friendly.

6. We visited Castle Bolton nearby and had a really good time despite the weather being horrendous. Well worth a look around, they have falconry displays, bee hives, gardens, boars as well as 4 or 5 floors of castle to look around.

7. As a note the site had a lot of children on despite there being nothing for them to do. I can imagine younger children would be difficult to keep amused without actually going off site.

I hope the review isn't too long and I have wrote the information down that I myself would find useful when researching a new site I hope it is of some benefit to yourselves.

We stayed over the May Bank Holiday and although the weather was poor we had a great time. The lower field does slope but this was not an issue.

The facilities are fine, very clean and well looked after, loads of hot water for washing up and the showers were only 20p. The owner regularly checks the site and is friendly and helpful.

There are no specific kids facilities, but the ones who were there seemed to having a great time without, playing tennis, cricket etc.

The site is in a beautiful position, gorgeous surroundings. Wharfedale and Wensleydale both very close for great walks.

A very friendly relaxed site, ground is slightly sloping, ( take chocks). Toilets, 3 mens+ urinal, and 2 showers, they were clean and kept clean, mop and bucket provided so you can clean up after yourself. And they have a hand dryer.( I didn't investigate the ladies ), 1 elsan point, 1 grey waste point, 1 tap for fresh water in touring area,

If you are used to large commercial sites this site could be a bit of a surprise, It is like a certificated site but with facilities.

A small site with quite a few permanently sited tourers, a very nice pub next door, good beer and food ( you may need to book for this). The site has a good mix of bods, families, couples, duke of Edinburgh kids, None were rowdy ( mark deals with this very firmly)

The site is very well placed to explore the region, aysgarth, forbidden corner, walking, etc.

Like many sites in the area it is not a children's play site, there is no play area, but there are trees to climb, and hide and seek to play, or other games which means you need to spend time with your kids ( isn't that why we have em).

Oh did I mention its very relaxing, splendid scenery, we will certainly stay there again.

A great campsite. Good value for money at £13 per night for a family of 4 in a largish tent.

We spent 3 nights here and really enjoyed it. We were on a bit of a budget so Street head really helped the cause.

We stayed in the lowest field that is on a bit of a slope but that was fine with us. The lavatories are a shortish walk but again not too far. The whole site felt safe and friendly.

There is very little to do in the immediate area but jump in the motor and the Dales and the Lake district are all within easy reach for great day outs.

The owners we very helpful and friendly.

I highly recommend this campsite. We loved it and the kids loved it.
