Nice site, good facilities and a grand welcome, even for a solitary tent-camper.
This is primarily a caravan site but there is a field reserved for tents too, which had wide flat areas for pitching and good soft soil for pegging. The facilities I used were the shower (20p piece required, hot but not very powerful) and the toilet block (good, clean and comfortable to use - bigger and better than most of the more basic sites I used this week).
When I arrived the owner was very friendly and accommodating, even though I gave her a twenty pound note for my five-pound one night stay, making her hunt around for change for me.
The pub next door is very welcoming too, and does excellent beer and food.

After leaving it too late to book anywhere for the Bank Holiday weekend we couldn't believe our luck when we rang here and they said no need to book just turn up.
The site is situated about 8 miles from Leyburn, so it is a little remote but the scenery is stunning.
On arrival the owner was very helpful and obliging and told us we could pitch up more or less where we wanted. On leaving reception you go through a first enclosure that has statics in.
The next section has tourers round the perimeter and pitches in the centre with EHU. If you go on a little further the next field is massive and that's where we camped.
It is a little sloping, but considering it was a Bank Holiday there were only a handful of tents there and we pretty much had our pick of places to pitch. The kids had loads of room to play ball games without fear of annoying anyone. This made up for there being no play area.
Because we were in the furthest field it was a bit of a trek to the toilet block(especially at night) but that would be my only criticism.
The Shower block had 2 showers (20p for a good 5 mins) and about 4 toilets. There was an electric point, again 20p, if you wanted to take your hairdryer. The showers and toilets were clean; the floors got muddy from people walking in but there was a mop for people to clean up after themselves (if they could be bothered).
There is a pub that does food just at the entrance to the site; we found it to be a bit pricey and mostly cooked our own food.
Leyburn has some lovely shops and a small supermarket.
We visited Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton both lovely and not a very long journey.
A bit further is Hawes, they have a great fish and chip shop and the Wensleydale cheese factory - lots of free samples in the gift shop!
We will definitely be returning here again and at £13 a night its great value.

This was our first visit to this site so not sure what we would find. We only stayed for two nights but have to say I will return to this site soon.
The staff were first class and very helpful. The toilets were clean. The camping field was ok but be careful if the weather is wet it can be come slippy.
There is a nice pub at the entrance to site good food and not too pricey and the bonus for as we have two dogs the pub has a room were they are allowed in.

On a positive note the site setting is beautiful and ideally placed for discovering North Yorks spots like Aysgarth falls, Hawes etc. (although we hadn't realised it was beside a road!). The pub right at the site entrance is also good and we had a nice meal which was good value.
The other aspects of the site are less positive; the touring caravan area is small and pitches are cramped and the only view we had was straight into the windows of another van. We had thought all the pitches were hard standing but this is not the case; we were placed on a strip of grass in the middle of the other vans. It was impossible to get any degree of levelness in the van. I fell over twice on the slippy grass and mud trying to get back into the van; there needs money spending on drainage and improving the standard of pitches.
The site office was rarely open at the times it said it would be and the only time we ever saw the owners was when we came to pay. I expect a better standard of site and service for £17.50 a night. There is no shop on site or dog walking area.

We have had 6 breaks at this site over the last 4 years, the staff are so lovely, very helpful and relaxed. It is perfect in location for aysgarth leyburn & hawes but quaint and quiet and not too touristy (if that makes sense).
The scenery is lovely as is the pub ! there is a slope on the tenting pitch however that can sometimes be an advantage. There is hard standing and hook ups and the site is well maintained
There are often walking groups/D of E type groups that stay which can make the showers a bit messy however there is a mop provided, showers are 20p and do their job but can be a bit dull (but then we nearly always have been in the chilly october months) and I have never been to the loo and not had loo roll.
There are pot washing facilities and ample bin space. The outside is well lit at night if you need to nip to the loos. There isn't a play ground, however it is child friendly in that the owners and residents are happy for the kids to ride their bikes, play ball and shout about like kids do. I love this simple site and have stayed at it more times than any other.

Just back from Street Head and the site deserves some up to date info.
Its location is first rate for walking, waterfalls, cycling or castles and gardens type of stuff. Leyburn and Hawes are both worth a visit and the waterfalls of Hardraw, Aysgarth, Ingleton and West Burton are must sees.
The camp itself is in three distinct areas, one for statics, the second is for tourers and tents and is only slightly sloping. But, the third and most easterly (as you look at google earth) is on a fair slope which is steeper than it looks. Mainly tents seemed to pitch here and it pretty much is used as the overflow and has no EHU.
The site office was closed on our arrival so we called the owner on his mobile and gained his permission to pitch where we liked. It being a Thursday we had a large choice to go at and so found a sheltered spot but surrounded by great scenery. The camp did fill up over the weekend with all sorts of patrons from Italian, Dutch to backpacking Duke of Edinburgh award types.
The site is well kept with a low key approach to discipine with no overt 'briefings' from the owners. However a noisy party of revellers were pulled into line sharpish on the Saturday night so full marks to the owner and a peaceful night ensued.
The toilet block was acceptable and was kept fairly clean. Two showers and three loos in the gents and two showers and six loos in the ladies.
The showers are electric and at 20p a go ran for more than enough time. The instructions are on each shower door how to oerate them.
No soap or paper towels/drier in either so think ahead.
There is a mop and bucket to clean up after yourself and a few cleaning products for the use of.
The potwash on the end of the building is free of charge and the hot water comes through after a short time.
For entertainment if you wish there is a pub at the site entrance, the Street Head in was ok and fairly priced at £2.75 a pint upwards and £1.50 for a bowl of proper big chips. Picnic tables outside offered the pub experience with a glorious outlook.
All in all we found it to be a popular site in a great location with a relaxed attitude to rules and regulations.
At £80 for 6 people over 4 days we think it represents great value for money.

Just returned from 3 nights at Street Head on our first camping trip.Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Slightly sloping field, 250yds to toilets, showers, laundry and free washing up facility. Plenty of hot water and mop and bucket to clean shower. Plenty of offers of assistance from Mark for us novices.
Lots to do in the area which is beautiful. Good pub next door and the Wensleydale Semer Water beer was divine. Nice, relaxed atmosphere and would certainly use Street Head again.

The camp site is on a severe slope but the upper part - for caravans is flat - it was pouring with rain when we arrived (not their fault) but it was a problem for vehicles on the steep slope - other sites we have used have large rubber mats etc to help you move around - the toilets were 250 meters (at least) away & unfortunately were not as clean as one would expect - cobwebs even !
The hand wash sinks had plenty of hot water - the showers 20p in a slot were terrible - I had 60p worth & NO HOT WATER AT ALL - Just Cold. There was no disinfectant/water/bucket/mop to clean the shower after you used it - not very good at all - however if I thought this was bad it was nothing to the lack of hot water in the washing up sinks (you pay here as well) & the room had dirty floors, filthy windows and matted cobwebs on the door.
Plus side - lovely area, decent pub at top of site
Needs some time spent cleaning the place & bringing the facilities up to standard

Whilst the weather wasn't kind, we got to sample the local pub. The menu looked fabulous and the food that was served to others looked good enough to eat!
The tent field was on a 35-40 degree angle and you may need to think about the way you pitch your tent. The tent field was about 250 metres away from the toilets and the showers. The static caravans are right next to the toilets, but the land at the top is slightly more horizontal, so I guess that's why.
The shower floor was filled with mud and there wasn't a bucket and mop to clean the floor with as there is on other camp sites. No hand towels in the toilets which was disappointing and I'm sure against Health and Safety standards.
Not the best camp site I've ever been to.

Site is well signposted from the main Leyburn to Hawes road. Site is split into 3 areas - statics, tourers and tents. Tents needing EHU can be accommodated on both static & tourer areas. Tent field has a few level pitches but is mostly sloping. 2 taps for water in tourer field, another outside toilet block next to CDP.
Toilet blocks basic, showers cost 20p. Hot water for washing up also costs 20p, but lasts long enough to fill a sink. There is no shop, but site sells calor gas. No play area & as the site was very busy when we visited there was not so much room for children to play.
There is a pub right next to the site that welcomes both children and dogs. Wonderful views & plenty of wildlife - we had to evict a hedgehog from the tent at 3 o'clock in the morning. One black mark - no soap in the toilets to wash hands - no-one appreciates having to take a bar of soap with them every time they need to use the toilet! Departure was relaxed and unhurried.
