We enjoyed a very pleasant long weekend at Dinas Farm. As earlier reviews state the site is an unspoilt gem. The facitilies are basic but clean and with plenty of hot water. If you want to avoid Club Houses, electric hook ups and other commercial stuff but enjoy beautiful scenery, this site could be for you.

The two main camping areas are generally level or gently sloping, both fields have slate aggregate trackways so access is easy. The site is sheltered by mature Oak woodland.

There are many footpaths around the area, some little used that add to the sense of getting right out into the countryside. Within 1km of the site we saw at least 10 different bird species, some we liked were Buzzards, Red Kites and Spotted Flycatchers. Watch out for the pesky grey squirrels they will be into the tent and munch your muesli but they didn't like my frosties or white bread! Keep foodstuffs in plastic containers if you can't, or forget to, fully close up the tent.

Thanks to Einer Pritchard for keeping such a warm welcome and an unspoilt campsite.

Date of visit was May bank holiday weekend 24th,25th and 26th.

Firstly can I just say what a little gem of a campsite!

My wife and I had spent several hours going through the various campsites listed on this site and time and time again kept being drawn back to this site.

We decided to visit this campsite for the bank holiday weekend and telephoned in advance where we spoke to the owner Einir who I must say was really helpful and advised us that if we wanted to get onto the site we must come on the Friday evening or early on the Saturday morning to be guaranteed a pitch, which I thought was a fair comment.

This site is located about 3.5 miles north east of the village of Llanbeder off the A496 Harlech to Barmouth road on a minor road.

We arrived at the site a little after 9am in the morning on the Saturday and was greeted by Einir the owner as we approached the farmhouse and cottage. She immediately welcomed us and told to pitch were we liked and she would be round later to see us and take payment. She also pointed out where to get fresh water and where the toilets and showers where all located.

The site is set out as 2 camping fields the top and the lower field, the lower being surrounded by a Oak woodland and small stream and all with reasonably short grass.

We pitched on the lower field below an old oak tree which was an idyllic spot!.

Scattered around the site are lovely wooden picnic benches for you to use if you wanted to.

The toilets and shower block are basic but have everything you need Womens w/c has 2 loos and a shower and a couple of basins and a socket for your hairdryer/straighteners etc, the Gents w/c has 1x loo 2 urinels a couple of basins one shower and a shaving point.

I must stress these facilities are more than adequate for what you need and were clean and tidy at all times with plenty of loo paper and hand towels!, and plenty of hot water I must also say the showers are free!.

Just outside the toilet and shower block you had an open air washing up area which consisted of 2 sinks and drainers with again loads of hot water.

We were advised by Einir that at busy times the water does cool down as people keep the hot tap running while washing up their pots and this does put a strain on the hot water.

Later that evening about 7 pm Einier came around on her quad bike and trailer delivering fire boxes and wood for whoever wanted a camp fire and to take payment for your pitch.

£4.50 per adult per night and a car £1.00 per night. The fire box was £2.00 to rent which I think was great as they keep the fire off the ground and the fire all contained and at £2.50 for a big sack of nice dry logs for burning, a small price to pay to have a real camp fire!.

This site is small and secluded and blends with the local scenery to create a really intimate back to basics camping experience.

The whole site is surrounded by breathtaking views and lots of nature at its best, a short walk up the hill at the back of the site gives a fantastic view of the local mountains and coastline.

On the Saturday night the owner Einir was turning people away and saying she was full.

In all honesty the site had no more than 25 tents of various sizes and there was plenty of space for 25 more tents and still be spaced out.

What we liked is that when Einir decided the site was full and enough people were on site, the site was full so not to cause cues at the shower block and facilities, I never once saw anyone waiting for the toilets or showers.

What more can I say what a fantastic little site away from it all and by the way no mobile phone signal on any network fantastic!.

There is a pay phone at the farm house if you need to use the phone or a public call box about half a mile down the lane.

We can not wait to go back for more weekends this summer as only under 2 hrs for us.

To sum this site up a little piece of magic in a beautiful rural location, a truly lucky find.

If you do go to Dinas Farm and you find it please dont tell the whole world as it will fill up to quick and get like Shell Island and we dont want that! so KEEP IT QUIET.

Thank you Einir and Dinas Farm for a Great camping Weekend.

Great little campsite. We ended up here after finding Shell Island was full (Bank holiday weekend!) it is so well of the beaten track we had almost given up and decided our map was lying to us!

However, we found it in the end and the fact it was so isolated was a real plus - it feels like you are really in the mountains despite being so close to the coast.

The facilities are fairly basic but I think that is what makes camping so much fun - otherwise you may as well be in a caravan. The site's best asset is that it allows fires - the fact that the owner had run out of braziers didn't stop us from enjoying a fire - she dug out some ground and we built a stone hearth which was fab!

I first found this delightful site in 2006, it was the site I'd been looking for in North Wales for years but never found. If you want a quiet, basic site off the beaten track this is for you. Well away from the single track road (which is quiet anyway) and surrounded by protected woodland and hills. Birds of prey seen frequently. Good walking direct from the site via public footpaths (Rhinog Fawr is do-able in a day if you're fit), or drive to the end of Cwm Bychan - where parking is available for a few pounds, for a farly easy climb to the Roman Steps.
Llanbedr, some 2.5 miles away, has a handful of shops including a surprisingly good delicatesen for such a small village (the sausage rolls are fantastic), and a pub. Harlech with restaurants, chip shop, Indian takeaway, and Chinese takeaway is only a 15 minute drive - very handy if it is pouring with rain. The chip shop (at the bottom of the road down from the castle towards the station) even does breakfasts.
Nearby attractions include: superb beaches within 20 minute drive - the car park at Dyffryn Ardudwy is free, the one at Harlech is not; RSPB Osprey nest observation site at A498/B4410 junction; Ffestiniog Railway Tan-y-bwlch station easy to get to.
No major bad points for the site, but being on the edge of woodland and adjacent to a very wet meadow you can get a lot of flies during good weather, but hey this is the countryside. Showers are now free though you do have to keep pushing the button every 15 seconds. Also there are three gates to open which can be a tad annoying if it is pouring with rain. And beware of the squirrels - they will sniff out any food you leave in your tent, so leave it in the car!

If you like a quiet site with a really friendly owner, then this is the site for you.

We've just spent a really happy 12 days at Dinas with four other families and we were made to feel very welcome throughout.

Einir, the owner, is a lovely woman with a welcoming and friendly personality. If she is not about when you arrive just pick your pitch and settle up with her later in the evening.

Einir chops the firewood, delivers it to your tent, keeps the grass in check, cleans the lavs and also finds time to stop and chat to her guests. Each morning in high season she prints out and pins up the snowdonia mountain weather forecast and pins it up along with the BBC regional forecast for Llanbedr - a really useful touch.

The site is split into two levels; the upper and lower fields. The lower is probably the quieter of the fields but it is also the wetter - the lovely trees that grow in and around the site mean that the lower field gets the morning sun later in the day and is the first to lose the light (and get the dew) in the evening.

In wet weather it can be a little difficult to drive cars easily up and out of the lower field.

The two fields are divided by a small wooded area with plenty of rocks and tree branches to keep small children happy for hours - do what we did and take a length of strong rope to form a swing and you might not see them between breakfast and dinner!

Washblock facilities are very basic - two washing up sinks and only one shower and toilet per gender. There are two face washing sinks for each gender and a (coin metered) electrical socket in the ladies. The showers are free (hurrah!) but the water pressure is minimal; those with long hair will have a hard time washing the shampoo out.

The small and relatively isolated nature of this site mean that there is very little vehicle movement on the the site during the day - a real plus if you have small children as they can roam freely around the site most of the time without fear of being struck by a moving vehicle.

Einir will take in your frezer blocks by arrangement - leave them in the ladies loo in a carrier bag before her evening clean and she will take them, put them in her own freezer and leave them there in the morning for you to collect - but be warned, her freezer doesn't work all that well!

The ability to have fires is a real plus - don't be put off by Einir's insistance that you use the fireboxes provided - the help to avoid damage to the grass, prevent the spread of fire (not something you want in such an isolated area with no fire brigade nearby!) and provide space underneath for drying te following night's kindling.

We made a firm friendship with the owner whilst we were there which really addedd to the enjoyment of our stay. This is a lovely, peaceful site in a wonderful setting. It's character more than outweighs the minor niggles. I would thoroughly recommend it to the camper who is looking for a good location, great price, basic faciltities and who can keep a secret - we'll be going back so you must promise not to tell others about this lovely place!

Other thoughts:

The area is farming country so you will need to take the usual precautions against ticks.

The warter at the site comes from the small lake above the camp site. It has a slightly peat-y colour after it has been treated and filtered but otherwise it is fine to drink. My wife and our three childrenn have all been drinking it for the last 12 days wth no problems at all.

The Victoria Public House in Llanbedr didn't call time when we were in there - we were served quite happily at 12:15am

Watch out for the beach car park at Harlech - the majority of the car park is protected by a height barrier set at 1.85m. There are only a dozen or so spaces outside of this for taller vehicles and these were almost all taken each time we visited.

Spent 3 nights at Dinas, a basic but very nice site. Very nice views of the surrounding mountains. All pitches have a steel fire box but you are only allowed to burn logs purchased from the farmhouse (£2.50), this is to stop people breaking branches from the oak trees on site. The water supply is filtered from the stream that passes through the farm so you may want to take your own water. The showers, one per gender were a bit of a let down, but it is a basic site after all. Most of the pitches are level too, overall i'd give this site 7/10.

This campsite has not changed since I first visited in 1982. It is set in naturally beautiful surroundings and remains unspoiled.

The facilities are basic but perfectly adequate, however, do not expect "Club House" facilities. If you prefer commercial campsites then this is not for you.

There is plenty of walking locally or a short drive away. The local wildlife includes buzzards, hares, badgers and of course sheep. Oh and watch out for the squirrels - they have been known to take food and chew through most things to get at it. So, leave your food in your car.

Campfires are permitted provided you use the metal platforms and purchase wood from the campsite (and yes, it *IS* cheaper than wood you can buy elsewhere). There are also plenty of pick nick benches - a welcome recent addition.

Due to the location, there is no light pollution and on a clear night, the sky is breath-taking. Keep looking up and you'll see plenty of shooting stars.

If you do visit, do not use your Sat-Nav to get there - it will get you lost. Use the web site for directions. Whilst we're on about technology, there is no mobile reception - another reason I love the site.

If you like the country-side and can do without an on-site shop, club-house and bar, then this campsite is definitely recommended.
