Friendly owners, happy to talk to my incessantly curious partner about farming and lambing etc despite how busy they were! And it was fun to just watch the lambs in the field next door!

Site is small but was very quiet due to time of year and rain so there were no problems using the clean and well maintained facilities. No hot water in the sinks (apart from the washing-up sink) though. I imagine it might be a different story if there are a few more tents - there were only 4-5 pitched when we went - as there are only two toilets and one shower.

Great location, quiet but within walking distance to village pub (remember your torch for the way home!) and lots of decent walking to be had in the surrounding hills. Nice location from which to explore Settle and Skipton too.

Good, flat pitch no matter where you were on the field but the turn onto the grass from the track did get extremely muddy in the rain.

I had reservations about this site prior to the visit due to the *facilities* being unisex. To my surprise it worked very well, we never had to wait to use the shower or the toilet / washroom. The only complaint I may have is the lack of hot water to have a wash and shave, having to decant hot water from the washing up sink to the washroom. The site has very generous pitch sizes due to the owners insisting that tents be pitched only around the edge of the field to give the kids plenty of room to have their games. A beck runs through one corner of the field which gave hours of fun to the young ones. The site is a few minutes from Settle and Ingleton(where there is a small supermarket attached to a filling station on the A65 immediately before Ingleton). Skipton is around 30 minutes away. The village pub is around three quarters of a mile down the very narrow lane which at this time of the year is busy with farm tractors going to and from the fields so be prepared to dive into the hedges. If you enjoy peace and quiet(we do) or walking(we don't) then this is the site for you. Would we go again ? Yes we would. In a few days time in fact.

We stayed at this site for 5 nights on our way down to Cornwall from Scotland. I had called ahead and Margaret told me I'd have no problem camping there. She was great. After the call I felt like I'd known her all my life. On arrival (hours too early) we were greeted by her husband, the farmer who informed us his wife was busy with the new lambs. He was busy himself, but he took me and my 3 kids through to meet her (and their grandchildren). We were then given a guided tour of the lambs and their mums and it was an extremely special way to begin our visit there.

Our pitch was perfect, and we got to choose it ourselves. There were hardly any other tents so it felt like we were all alone in the middle of a random field. It was wonderful. The view from the tent was amazing and lambs were gambolling all over the place.

The facilities were a bit too basic for me really but sufficient for a short stay. The water in the toilets was cold, and I'm a right fusspot about washing my hands, so I wasn't too happy with that. But we could overlook it really. One of my kids nearly always seemed to want the toilet in the middle of the night, but just took a torch and set off (she's 10) without any worry (apart from the fact that it's pitch dark there).

We ate at the Game Cock Inn 2 nights, but it WAS expensive. We were treating ourselves though because the price of the campsite was so reasonable! Whilst there we travelled to the Lake District and even to York, which was a fair drive, but it's tradition in our family. A great day was had at the Ingleborough Cave, but it was a real hike up the hill first and I'm not a hiker. The area is wonderful though. I can't praise Yorkshire enough. Everywhere we went we were treated so well, everyone is friendly.

The only downside to this trip (and it was just bad luck) was the weather. The arrival day and the subsequent 3 days were fab, but then it started raining. I have never camped in such bad rain. The tent leaked a bit and soaked bedding and then on the day we left it was just chucking it down so that all the clay-type mud in the field was just seeping everywhere. I spent about 2 hours taking the tent down and I had to clean it too, it was filthy. I ended up chucking the tent in a black bag and throwing it in the roof box. I honestly thought it'd be unsalvageable, but it recovered, miraculously.

All in all, I would definitely stay at this site again, just not in the Spring.

The owners totally made it for us. They were the nicest campsite owners I have ever met.

Just returned from our first visit to this Site, based on the good reviews left on the UKCampsite.co.uk. We were not disappointed! The site is situated in perfect surroundings for both tents and caravans & totally peaceful - yet only a five minute drive to the Village.
Fantastic walking from the Site & with both a Pub & Village Shop nearby, you could leave your car on your pitch till its time to leave. The owners are extremely friendly & helpful, as were Audrey & Peter (long term visitors to the Site). Shower facilities basic but adequate & always kept clean. This Site is truly a little Gem!

All you could need here for a quiet time away, never too crowded, good clean facilities, friendly, terrific walks from the site of all description - (lots of paths on the OS map covering the area).

Much appreciated for the quiet relaxing sense of appreciation by other campers and no rowdiness! We went again twice that summer and good reports both times.

We have just had our second stay at Woodend. Even in the rain (which we had a lot of!) the surrounding scenery is wonderful. It's not only good to look at but has fantastic scope for hiking and biking right from the site in every direction. Our first visit was at Easter, in the snow, followed by perfect blue skies - fabulous! It was lambing time - we still have memories of lambs #21 in their little orange plastic macs in the next field!
We have used one of the half dozen or so touring caravan pitches, all hardstanding with EHU - very peaceful, and thankfully dry even in the rain. We have been largely self-sufficient, but the toilets/shower (spotless) are only three or four minutes away at the farm.
If you were to compare Woodend with a CC CL you might say it was quite expensive - but the location (and hardstandings)make it more than worthwhile. We are amazed at how Mr and Mrs Hird manage to run a sheep farm, keep the site so well-maintained and still have time for a friendly chat! We will be back - maybe even with better weather!

Visited on a very wet weekend after a very wet period of weather where the field had been used by a school for a week beforehand and found a well drained clean field with no rubbish around or deep ruts or muddy areas despite the heavy use the field had enjoyed.

The toilets are immaculate even if few in number and there is a fridge freezer for use of visitors at no charge. The owners are lovely - real dales farmers with warm dales hospitality.

No actual playground but a stream by the side of the field which the kids loved.

We will definitely visit here again.

An excellent site. Very easy to find off the A65.

We were given a warm welcome, and a quick tour of the facilities. The toilets are sufficient for the size of the site, never had to queue, and the shower is warm and clean. There is also a freezer to put your cool blocks in - good idea!

The camping field itself is large and spacious which meant plenty of space between neighbours. Even though it had rained a lot that week, the field was well drained, no stuckinthemud cars and so on. Most other campers had young families so very quiet at night. Some young people arrived Saturday but again, very quiet!

The views in any direction are fantastic which just makes it perfect as a location for walking. Pen y Ghent and Ingleborough are each 12 miles (round trip) away. It's also just off the Pennine Bridleway for mountainbikers.

The nearest pub - the Gamecock - is a genuine 10 minute walk away, and fed us full to burst two nights in a row. It does get busy so if you want to eat in, perhaps ring and book. The beer's good too while you wait.

All in all, the site doesn't attempt to be a Butlins with all mod cons to pacify children and fairweather campers, but offers excellent accomodation for those that prefer a simple set up.

We shall be back!

We arrived at the site on August bank holiday monday.

There was plenty of space to pitch and the field was nice and level

Views from the site are superb wherever you pitch

Facilities are clean and only about 100 yards from the field

Owners are nice and friendly and not in a hurry to grab your pitch fees as soon as you arrive

It's an easy walk into the village where there's a well stocked post office and pub. (We've eaten many times at the pub over the last 2 years and the food is superb)

There are loads of walks which you can pick up from either the site or Austwick

Overall a great little camp site and we'll be going again. And again

At a delightful campsite is Woodend farm, it is so quite it is ½ of a mile out of Austwick village and a good 1 ¼ miles from the A65, so no traffic noise just the odd tractor. We very much enjoyed our stay of almost a week at the end of July; there was only four tents in the very large field so as much space as you wanted. This site also caters for some caravans, but these have their own field. We had a very friendly welcome from the owners Margaret & Edward on our arrival & by we left we were a part of the family. The facilities were kept spotlessly clean at all times, further toilets were being added and were planed to be ready for the beginning of August, with a further shower planed for next spring. The campsite is an ideal base to cover the Lake-district, with all it's outstanding beauty. Also close by is Kendal and lots of delightful villages with local pubs offering outstanding value for bar snacks. If you like peace and quite, plenty of space & a very clean and well-maintained site, then this is a must site for you. We will give this a five star rating & will revisit Woodend farm some time in the future. Brian & Martina Wilkins.Tonbridge, Kent.2007-09-04
