Stayed on this site for two nights just for a short break to go to Wookey Hole. Owner very nice. Lovely little site with very good ground to pitch up on. Children loved running around the paddocks and riding their bikes around.
The site toilet block is very basic but water hot in showers and to be honest this is only a 5 van certificated site so you can't expect much more. Perfect location for Wookey Hole and Cheddar.
Shops just down the road including very good fish & chip shop. Quite a lot of road noise although not noticed when inside the caravans. I would definitely go there again for a couple of nights.

Stayed one night here as a base for a day hike around the area. Really good basic campsite with relatively clean hot showers and toilets. BBQ's permitted. Owners are very pleasant.
There is a bit of traffic noise but easy to ignore.
Very central for public footpaths and loads of fabulous walking around including West Mendip Way and Limestone Link. The Strawberry Line runs virtually along the bottom of the camping field - OS Explorer 141.
Walking into Cheddar is about 20 minutes and although not much happens after the shops shut, I had a nice pint of cider in the local pub there.
I'd definitely use the site again. Good value for money.

We found this a lovely site with Good toilet block and showers which were clean, the site owners were very friendly and helpful, good walks, and shopping in Cheddar nice Pub within walking distance.
Unfortunately the weather was terrible but the field we were in did not get muddy underfoot well drained, I would recommend this site for everyone, because they have plenty of space for games and children to play.
Just wish more people would have joined us, just a little rain put people off. We shall revisit soon.

Having already been to this site, and gave it what I thought was a good / potential review, I sadly have to say I retract that. The site, albeit well placed for Cheddar and Wells, still is excellent in its geography. However, the site, I feel, has not really improved and now has a poor service. There is no 'personal' touch and I would only assume that there are new owners and they really are not that interested in running a successful site
There was no real sense of 'organisation', and failure to meet some of the minimum expectations. A catalogue of errors from poor booking, requesting that the owners see me twice to arrange the electric hookup I had ordered, which did not materialise, and general poor communication with customer and owner.
The site still has a very sub-standard shower / toilet room, no hot water, no water on one occasion, no toilet rolls and lacking in hygiene.
Shame: I liked this a lot when they first started, but I would personally not recommend.

Site was nice and flat and there were only 2 other units in the field, so lots of space to choose from.
Thought the site was expensive for the facilities available. £10 for 2 of us in a tent, we paid £11 in Devon and got much better facilities.
The showers don't have much room and you have to leave your clothes outside. There was no toilet roll in one of the toilets and the other one had very little.
The washing up sink has no hot water and there are no laundry facilities.
The main road next to the site was very busy and seemed to get busy from 6am. We were camped as far away from the road as you could get and it still disturbed me, but I am a light sleeper.

Great campsite, especially if you have kids, as it is so near all the attractions: Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Clarks Village, Friendly people running it. And good rates. Water available in the field as well as at shower block.
Great big high hedges give shelter from the prevailing winds if needed for tents. Large pitches and fields big enough for the kids to run riot.
There is some traffic noise, but in the fields at the back not annoying at all. As in any rural area it dies down early, and starts late AM. No traffic at all at night.
Shops:
3 minute walk is the large shop of another campsite, or Spar at 5.
Washing facilities:
Are completely redone, winter 2010/11 by the looks of it. Cleaned every day. They are basic, but perfectly fine. We're camping after all.! Showers are hot, but washing up sink outside isn't (but just sneak into toilet block to get hot water from tap!)
Surrounding area:
Cheddar 1 mile: check out Olive Tree lunch/tea room, very friendly and good menu Small tesco.
Cheddar reservoir 4 minutes walk out from the back of campsite.

We stayed her for four nights from the Sunday before the bank holiday, so just a few days after the previous reviewer.
The weather had been horrible at home, and we'd planned to go north for our last trip of the season, but my wife had done her research and decided the only chance of decent weather was to go south. As we have two lots of friends in Somerset, and nowhere to adequately dry a sodden 7m x 4m polycotton tent, we headed for the M5. Halfway there, the clouds cleared and we didn't see another for the whole trip. I love my wife!
1st impressions of the site were that it was sunny, had been recently mowed and wasn't full. We picked a nice spot and had the tent up in minutes. We're really getting good at it after our previous four trips.
A black cloud appeared on the horizon when a family of idiots started to put up their tent next to ours. The site owners, to their credit, swiftly sent them packing (literally) despite their ridiculous playground threats! I think these people watch too much TV. It turned out they drove across the road to the Broadway House site, where they probably blighted someone elses enjoyment. Still, not ours, eh?
So, the site has a view of Cheddar Gorge and the reservoir, there's a Spar shop at the nearby petrol station, and supermarkets in Cheddar and, apparently, in Axbridge (bear in mind if you are a vegetarian, you will be in a very small minority in the south west. Not a veggie sausage or burger to be had in Cheddar, we had fish & chips instead). Facilities on the site are as basic as I would tolerate for a family camping trip (a small toilet & shower block, washing up sink is outside, with no hot water to it. Fortunately the weather was superb).
After the first night, almost everyone disappeared, and we had the whole field to ourselves. There was one inhabited caravan and a tent in the other field, but that was it. Every night, kids tucked up, we sat & looked at the stars, observing the occasional meteor's fiery demise, or satellite following its lonely orbit. Chinese lanterns traversed the sky from time to time. A lovely end to the summer, and probably my favourite trip of the season.

After looking at this website I chose this site as I was booking the Wednesday before the August bank holiday. The owner was very helpful and friendly. A lovely campsite, ground soft, flat and well kept. The land fenced off into three large fields with lovely views.
There is plenty of room for children to play games in the middle of each field. The toilet/shower block is adequate due to the site not being too busy.
As mentioned in another review I disagree you cannot see through the slats unless you deliberately go right up and look through them! The owner is hoping to expand these facilities in the future. Ideal if you are a self-sufficient camper.
I would definitely visit again. Only downside, washing up facilities not brilliant, traffic noise noticeable early morning but not unbearable.

This is a grand little site. Very friendly owners. They made every attempt to ensure we got electric hook up, even on a Bank Hol. The field is very level, and split into 3 with hedgrows.
View is very good and you can walk to pubs/restaurants to either Axbridge or Cheddar. There is a bus service running from Wells to Weston, stopping at all the villages inbetween. The stop is by the campsite.
Also easy to walk to Shell / Spar shop, so campsite remains quiet with no need for bars, shops, entertainment etc. There is plenty of room to play in the fields. The site toilet and shower seem or I hope only temporary.
They are clean and serve a purpose, but there is potential to improve this, so the owner I told me. We would most certainly return here.

Found the site as directed by the owner when phoned a few days before. Was informed when I phoned that the price would be £15 per night for 2 Adults which seems right for area, but not when facilities are taken into account Sign on entrance said £10. Able to pitch anywhere on nominated field.
No camp shop-Cheddar is a good 30 min walk to shops (Tesco Express). Shower block for the gents is two toilets, two showers (nowhere to place cloths)and one sink the toilet doors are like western style saloon bar! toilet paper ran out on the Saturday. That said all was clean and tidy. Partner said woman's was the same.
One out door sink for washing up for whole site and no hot water. Could do with more rubbish/recycle bins the one and only was full. Never did find the water tap to fill large water container.
Road noise from the main seemed to go on till about midnight.
Not able to comment on Cheddar Gorge as only stayed for the Bristol Balloon festival which was worth the trip alone.
