The friendly owners take great care and pride in this site and it shows. Formerly a CS now an 11 pitch licensed site, it has generously sized pitches with proper electrics that don't trip. Easy three mile bike ride into York on safe cycle tracks. Five minutes walk to the business park where there is a Beefeater, giant Chinese restaurant and a curry house, along with the (rather disappointing) Wetherby Whaler fish and chip restaurant and takeaway. Four pubs within a mile. Buses to York outside the site.
We took advantage of the ten day deal. Instead of (totally reasonable) £13. 50 a night you can pay £110 for ten nights. Stay as many as you want, any unused are valid for the rest of the year. And any after that are £11 a night. For such a great site in such a great location this is a bargain.

We did a bit of a tour of England this summer, set off from Cumbria, down to Suffolk, up to Market Raisen, back to Cumbria and then for the last 4 days down to Nether Poppleton near York.
We had no signal to book so we had to phone up on route. We were so happy when we were told yes just let yourself into the field and pick a pitch, we were recommended to choose one near the back of the site where there is a hedge for shade for the dogs.
Fantastic welcome when we arrived, and the eggs were scrummy from the chickens. I really enjoyed throwing scraps of bread over and seeing them all run to get their spoils.
We walked into York one of the days, had a lovely tour of York, a place dear to my heart, and caught a train back to poppleton station.
We had a lovely relaxed time, the dogs chilled out, we found a great dog run area just on the outskirts of the village.
The Co-op was within walking distance, and the staff there are really friendly.
Fantastic site, cant wait to come back!

The site is ideally situated on the outskirts of York and is easily located from the ring road. Being a C. S. The site does not have the facilities of larger sites, but more than makes up for that with the location, friendly welcome and continuous attention to detail from the site owners. The site is well drained, after the wet year and recent snow we had no problems with our car and unit on the grass, it is well maintained, level and surrounded by open fields. The nearby village has shops and a number of public houses, there are the usual, larger stores, food outlets and out of town shopping retailers situated further along the ring road.
From the site it is easy to catch the local bus into York, for the more active travellers, there are various cycle routes to York and the other villages, if you wish to walk you could follow one of the cycle routes into York. The site is within easy reach of The North York Moors, Leeds, Harrogate, and the surrounding areas.
This was our first stay on a C. S. And found the experience totally satisfactory and will definitely be returning here for future trips into York and the surrounding area.

Weekend at Cherry Tree from 23 to 25 nov 2012. On arrival all our details were on the gate which was very easy
It was dark when we arrived but everything was easy to find and was soon sited. Local bus into York, spot on, bus driver was top man, waited for us to get to bus stop
If you want a site in this area this is the one.
Grass is like a bowling green , just needs hedging to stop the wind.
Spoke to site owner on Sunday, very nice

This is a CS that should not be missed if you come to York, EHU for 5vans, large pitches, level and very well kept, no toilets but that's no problem. The info hut is brilliant everything you need extra EHU leads even pegs for the washing line, and of course 'lovely free range eggs' the kids will love the hens you can feed them with bread if you want. There is eating places only 5min walk away plus a Coop shop. The owners are very helpful, you ask and they will do their best for you, always a happy welcome. We have been here 6 times and will be back again. The village is not too far away 15mins walk, and if you want to visit York the Bus Stop is 3mins away and runs every 1/2 hour on time!

Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of August and had a fantastic time. This was our first proper venture into the CS/CL sites and we weren't disappointed.
There is plenty of room on each pitch and plenty of room between pitches.
We went with two other families and they weren't disappointed either. Its secure enough for the little ones and we had no worries about them running around the field.
Fantastic little shed complete with recycling boxes (which we filled a lot), toys, games, book exchange and plenty of leaflets and information about York and the surrounding area. Also had fresh eggs daily from the free range chickens that they had, think £1. 50 for 6.
Two out of the five days we stayed on site as the weather was lovely and the other days we went off into York. This is where the leaflets came in handy for us to plan our days.
There is a bus stop outside with regular buses into York and there is also a bus timetable in the shed.
Karen and Martin where very helpful and friendly and always about if you needed something, like ice for the Pimms!
Will definitely be returning and would definitely recommend it.
Little gem of a place.

Great little hidden gem, big square flat field with electric hook ups for 5 vans with massive pitches,
There are no toilet / shower facilities but not an issue in the caravan, the site is kept immaculately and as already said in previous reviews the 'shed' with local info, toys, free range eggs, other helpful items, even 'poo bags' is a great little touch.
The site is very secure & completely enclosed so felt at ease letting my little one do laps of the field as he was always in view! not sure the other campers were so pleased mind!
The local area is also lovely and its so close to the centre of York it makes an ideal base. Very competitively priced, lovely friendly owners and I have just emailed to make another booking in a couple of weeks!

If Carlsberg did caravan sites.
This is how all caravan cs / cl sites should be run.
Just returned from our Easter break at Cherry Tree site in York, greeted on arrival by the friendly and informative owners. First impressions, which carried on through the stay are excellent, the field is kept in an immaculate condition with large, generous pitches.
They have added an information centre (well maintained shed!) which included tourist information leaflets, menus, games for children, books, dvd's and much more).
Within a 10 minute walk there is an Indian, Chinese, fish & chip restaurant (take away) and Beef-Eater pub. We had a meal at the Indian, which was excellent but can't comment about the others. Tesco is a 5 minute drive away and Co-op nearby.
The number 10 bus runs regularly to the centre of York (£7. 40 family all day ticket).
Our girls loved feeding the animals wih the food provided by Martin.
Added bonus, Karen called in on Easter Sunday with freshly made Easter cakes.
We cannot fault this site, so much so that we have cancelled our summer break to return here in August.

We visited this site during the February half term, two children myself and my husband. It is very easy to find, not far off the main ring road around York.
We arrived Friday night about 7pm to 5-6in snow, that had fallen the week before and had not melted. We were met at the gate by the owner, and our pitch was pointed put to us, it had been cleared of snow.
Our car was not able to pull our twin axle over the snow, so the owner contacted her friend from the village, who kindly drove up and pitched our van within a few minutes. We hooked up, and were told to settle in and she would see us the next day.
During the next morning while our girls were playing in the snow the owner came to explain about the site. The bus stop was just up the road, there was an information hut that has everything from local take aways to a book swap.
There are no toilets or showers but this is pointed out on her site, and we have our own in van. She also put out chicken feed so my girls could feed the chickens. The field was well drained and was not too muddy even when the snow melted.
York we found expensive, but after debating a few days we bought a Yorkshire pass from the tourist information in York, expensive, so we put aside two days we 'did' York, not forgetting the brewery tour including its free drink, so we got our moneys worth ( The pass can be bought for from 1-6 days depending on what you wanted to do, we found two days enough)
On our leaving day we asked if we could stay late, and were told as late as we liked, as no one was coming. We left at tea time.
We had a lovely time and would stay again.
The site was well positioned (we drove into York and it usually took about ten minutes)and the owners were so friendly and welcoming.

We've used this site three times now, as we have family in York so it is convenient for our visits.
The site is flat and well drained and spacious, with pitches placed around the perimeter. There are no toilet or shower block, so you will need to use your own facilities, however this is made very clear on their site before booking. The waste disposal is near the entrance away from the pitches. The site is relatively new, so the trees and shrubs haven't yet matured, but it is well kept and clean and tidy
The owners are very friendly and relaxed, but the leave you to enjoy your break. When we arrived for our first visit, the Martin - the owner - waited outside with a torch to show us the way in.
Although it is close to the York ring road, you're not disturbed by traffic, but you have the advantage of being close to the city. The views across fields to the back of the site are nice.
There is a small shed that has information about local attractions, recycling and you're able to buy eggs and chicken feed. The children enjoyed feeding the chickens.
Overall and excellent CL site (that's why we've given facilities 10/10 as you know what you're in for) that is close to an interesting city.
