We have just returned from Trent Farm and can highly recommend it. It is so peaceful and tranquil.
There wasn't a play area for the children but this didn't bother my six year old son as he just loved the open space of the camping field and could run around without bothering anyone and I could see him even if he was down the other end of the field. The fishing ponds were lovely although we didn't do any fishing.
The owners are really friendly and give the camp site a lovely relaxed feel about it, they didn't rush us when we were leaving and allowed us to arrive early and unhitch our trailer until the pitch was available, this meant we could enjoy the site for more time.
The facilities are like home-from-home, with a kettle, fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer and microwave. Washing area was immaculate as were the showers and toilets.
They encourage recycling by having separate bins, but this isn't enforced if you don't want to. We hired the firepit and wood which gave a more traditional feel to the evening - shame it was drizzling though!
We will definitely be returning within the next month and hopefully for 2 nights rather than one. I may even have a go at fishing for the first time.
The site is quite remote from any shops but this didn't bother us as we went to get away from everything.

We stayed at the end of may. 2 families in 2 large tents. The site wasn't busy so there was plenty of room. There are a few hook ups but we didn't use them. The owners are very friendly and they provide fire pits and wood for hire so you can have a fire.
The kids enjoyed the free open space and we got a few games of baseball, cricket and football on the go where other kids came and joined in.
Whilst we aren't keen anglers we did make use of the lakes for a few hours and it was the young kids first time fishing so the fact that we caught over 30 fish ( small ones apart from one decent sized fish - but the kids didn't care ) was a major plus and my daughter keeps asking to go fishing again! I haven't the heart to tell her that fishing isn't usually as easy as that.
There were two shops within 5-10 mins drive away.
The toilets were probably the cleanest I have ever seen And the wash up area has tea, coffee kettle etc and a radio.
The site is about 1 hour 15 mins From Manchester so its ideal for a spontaneous get away without spending hours in the car.
All in all a good site which we would definitely visit again.

We stayed with 5 other families, 2 in caravans and 4 in tents and when it came to paying Sylivia the owner thought that it was fair to charge the tents £7 per night extra as she said that people in tents use more of the facilities and also cause damage to the grass.
On a happier note the on site facilities are very good, toilets, showers, campers kitchen all spotless.
Even though there are no play area for children our children had a great time fishing which is free for all people on site.
What I would say is that if you have a tent check out the price first as it doesn't always follow from website.

Just had a wonderful weekend at Trench Farm. Weather was terrible but that didn't seem to matter! There is an excellent utility room with a table and chairs, fridge, washing up facilities and even a microwave.
There is a nice selection of books in this room, along with a folder full of local restaurant menus and places to visit, so whether you want to brave the weather and stay on site, or go out and about they really do accommodate you.
The toilet and shower facilities were immaculate.
The pitch was really spacious with hook-up and water tap right there. The field was really well looked after and campfires (in fire pits) were welcome. We lit a BBQ and the owner came over to us to give us some blocks to use - he was happy for us to carry on and do what we wanted but taking a pride in his field he wanted us to put it on the blocks - fair enough.
Good location - we live in the Midlands so a nice short drive for a lovely holiday in Wales. The owners have made a leaflet of local attractions which was very useful.
All in all I'd highly recommend this site - Sylivia the owner was an excellent host, she knew all of her guests names which was a lovely touch, and her husband was equally as helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Just returned from Trench Farm and what can I say. A fantastic site.
Welcomed by Mike and Sylvia who were only too glad to help. Provided fire pit and wood.
All in all 4 adults, 2 children and 4 dogs in two tents.
Free fishing which the kids enjoyed. Lovely walks with the dogs (miles and miles if you want to).
The toilet blocks were immaculate at all times with Indian Stone flooring of all things !
Fully enclosed kitchen / dining area with fridge, kettle, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. I must say that washing up in this area was a pleasure (unlike some other camp sites where I have been washing my pots in a field shelter).
Tesco was just a five min drive and also within walking distance is the Trotting Mare Pub which served excellent food.
We will be returning to this site !

We have just spent seven nights over the Easter and may bank holiday at this site, it is our second visit and was again a great holiday.
There is no shop or pub on this site, do you miss them? most certainly not, this is a site for serious rest and relaxation.
There are some lovely walks and excellent fishing which is free for people staying on site.
On site facilities are very good, toilets, showers, campers kitchen all spotless.
Mike and Sylvia are the perfect hosts. So will we be going back for a third visit you better believe it, now that we have found it we are certainly not going to let it slip through our fingers.

What a gem of a site, web site spot on with local information Tesco 5 minutes down the road in Ellesmere. Facilities second to none like using your own kitchen / bathroom at home. Nothing too much trouble for the owners, a warm welcome awaits you on arrival. Un-expected entertainment supplied from the motor-cross but is far enough not to spoil the quietness, didn't know they was there until Mike told us.
Fishing was excellent for all ages, tench to 3lb caught and confirmed sighting of plenty of carp will hope to catch one next time. Excellent starter pond for the supervised little ones behind a fenced area in the main field. Main ponds in walking distance but separate to camping field for safety for the younger campers.
Plenty of space for football and cricket all insight of pitches. Will be returning as such value for money and the friendliness of the site.

We went down to Trench Farm again at the weekend all was great again tranquil nights, no yobs shouting goodnight every 5 minutes, just the odd moo of a cow or the hoot of an owl whilst laying on your back watching the stars through the sun roof.
Now on to the fishing which was excellent,in a 4 hour session I had carp from 4lb to 9lb six in total and a raft of good roach and small stuff all on the pole with a 14s elastic, the carp were a mixture of common and mirror carp.
Sylvia has decided to keep the place open as long as guests keep booking so if you want a decent weekend away with free fishing thrown in give them a ring and book a fully serviced hard pitch for £14 a night.

What can I say we came across the site by accident and loved it two really nice people Mike and Sylvia have put a lot of time and effort into making this a relaxing and friendly place to go nothing is too much trouble.
The fishing lakes were a bonus and re-introduced me and my boys back to fishing and my first ever Carp caught. There are plenty of walks around the site and its dog friendly you might even come across Sylvias Rotty and Spaniels on a stroll.
We have now made this a regular place to visit and try and get there most weekends.
Best thing for me is its very much like how a traditional site should be run without the commercialism and over zelous rules but excellent facilities.

We found this site by chance as we were staying at a site nearby, and after an initial look round we decided it was for us.Booked with sylvia and duly arrived for a 4 night stay.
This is the most peaceful and relaxing site I have ever stayed on,as a fisherman I was eager to try my luck on the fishing lakes and although I did not catch any of the large carp that inhabit the lakes I did at least see them, they are there!i had to settle for several very nice crucian carp and some good sized roach.
Sylvia keeps the facilities block spotless, the campers kitchen is the best I have ever seen, free coffee, tea, milk etc microwave, washer/dryer, table chairs, this is really a gem of a site mike and sylvia should be applauded for there efforts they have something very special here and the good news is they are willing to share it with us.We cant wait to go back!.Arthur & penny warrington.
