This is a basic farm site, with mains hook ups. Greenfield is to the east of Manchester with a direct train connection into Manchester Victoria. It is on the southern edge of Saddleworth moor with the M62 to the north, but the roads are so steep we dare not go directly north to the M62 whilst towing and chose to arrive and leave via Oldham to the west. A toilet and shower are available across the road at the farm, but we didn't use them. There is a supermarket and a pub in the village. A canal is also nearby and the setting is quite pleasant. A previous reviewer mentioned a problem with the CDP in October of 2010, in May of 2011 nothing appears to have changed, the ' toilet ' in the field which is the disposal point, was partly full of waste and was neither fully functional nor pleasant. For £12 a night I would have expected all facilities to be fully operational, especially the CDP which is critical to a touring caravan.

We stayed at Well-i-Hole Farm Campsite for 6 nights in the October Half Term. It is situated on in open farmland on the edge of the village of Greenfield to the east of Manchester. There is good access from Junction 23 of the M602 which is 6 miles away along, mainly, A roads. The centre of Manchester is about 10 miles drive and there are several railway stations nearby with services to Manchester.
Formerly, but no longer, a Caravan Club CL, it is a basic site next to a small river with views to the surrounding hills and moorland. There are EHUs, a water tap and CDP and that's it - NO toilet block. The elderly owner lives in the farmhouse opposite and is friendly and helpful. There were about 6 'vans pitched on grass in a line along the, fenced, river bank but some of these appear to be seasonals as there was not anyone at them during our stay. The owner said that he had another field available for caravans and tents when necessary.
Our mover meant that we were been able to site the 'van nose-in so that we have a good view of the river. The grass is reasonably well drained despite some rain. The site is just off a quite busy minor road and so there is some road noise but this is not too intrusive. The site has a gate onto the road so it is reasonably safe for children but there are no play facilities of any sort.
The site cost £11 per night including electric hook-up for the 'van. No extra charge for awning, dogs, etc. The owner only accepts payment in cash, no cheques.
Our only reservation is that the CDP is a bit iffy. It consists of a domestic toilet surrounded by a low 'wall' constructed from a section of large circular pipe with a water point with a hosepipe for rinsing. The only problem is that on 2 occasions the 'toilet' bowl was blocked and full of toilet waste. Next to the toilet is a plastic dustbin lid which seems to be covering the 'access point' to the CDP 'septic??' tank. If one lifts that lid the tank under it is too full of toilet waste!
We complained to the owner when were unable to empty our toilet tank and he said he would get someone to look at it. By the time we returned later in the day it had been sorted. However when I went to empty our loo tank before leaving a few days later the toilet bowl was again full to the brim with waste! Not very pleasant, to say the least. I had to tow the 'van home with a partly filled loo tank. Fortunately it was only about 40 miles.
The surrounding area is very pleasant with lots of potential for walking. The canal runs nearby and it is possible to walk along the towpath to the large village of Uppermill and on to the Standedge tunnel. There are, also, several reservoirs nearby with marked walks. There are plenty of shops, pubs, etc in the nearby towns and villages. On Monday, a beautiful sunny day, we drove over the, wildly beautiful, Saddleworth Moor to Holmfirth and spent a pleasant day wandering around the town where TV's 'Last of the Summer Wine' was filmed.
We had very little time to enjoy the surrounding area our main reason for the visiting the area was to support our daughter and her husband following the arrival of our first grandchild.
I would be happy to return again if I were confident that the CDP was sorted out permanently.
